Hmm...the thought of outshining Fowler would have to have a certain appeal if you were a 'last laugh' kinda guy...

I"m sure he's just happy to have other clubs wanting him.

He's only just got here, I'm sure his other half won't wanna up and move again after just getting here...plus it'd be unsettling for his young. too many things that would outway moving.

MAYBE WE COULD GET SOME NEW ZEALAND TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!! and get rid of that ausy trash that destroys our line up, seriously this team could do wonders for NZ football

That's the dryest, funniest wind-up I've seen on here for a while. excellent tongue in cheek self parody.

he's class and got talent. but if another club is offering his services and he goes..then thats life! that's the way transfers work. I hope he doesnt go but he's gota make a living for his family..May be if our team starts winning more...may be if we get bigger crowds to home games, maybe if the fricken sun started showing its face and giving nice whether then he'll stay longer. who knows..only paul does..lol

If he was motivated only by money or perceived standard of the league, he wouldn't have signed for us.

He seems to have a fairly broad view of what is important in life, and he seems to be enjoying his football with us.

If the club treats him well, and i expect they will, i reckon he's more likely to stay than go. I hope i'm right because he seems to have real potential to lift the profile of the game here. As well as that, he's bringing delight to thousands of Kiwi's in every match he plays.

Doesn't have to play for the same club to do that surely? He is already outshining him by playing in the same league.

He looked happy enough sitting with Terry S at the Four Kings on Sunday.

I'm not convinced that a guy who has moved to NZ from the championship when he had other offers there is going to be motivated to play in the ACL or t win the A-League.  This is a lifestyle move for him and if he enjoys the lifestyle and his football there would be no reason why he'd leave I'd have thought?

Imo, you only have to look at his club record. He has only been with 3 other clubs - Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace. He has stayed at each club for at least 2 years - 7 years in the case of Millwall. If he likes Wellington, he will stay - I have no doubt. If it was about money he definately wouldn't of come here in the first place. It's a bit like Daniel - if it was all about money for him also he would be in Qatar right now.

Yea. He is may be keen to stay with us. But he maybe not keen..lol

But Ifill. If he leaves. I will be so so so so Gutted. You get this speculation, and it doesn't mean he's going to actually go. It quite probably means we will be forced to up his wages a reasonable amount. But he deserves it so I don't care. If I was any of the other clubs I'd be trying to sign Ifill as a Marquee player and chucking lots of money at him. Hopefully he sees that he's currently in a team with a good chance of winning the A-League and sticks on.

Don't know the guy or where his interests lie, so it's hard to judge what he'll actually do.

On his latest blog Paul says:

Im feeling very positive about things at the moment

Also, just a quick note to say congratulations to Leo, Manny, Andrew and Vinny on securing new long term contracts.  It is vital that the club get in early to tie down their best players and all of the above come into that group.  Hopefully a few more will follow shortly because I believe we have a squad capable of really achieving something sooner rather than later.

All sounds quite positive to me - just a little push to the club about "get in early to tie down their best players" as we all know as well as he does that he is probably our best player at the mo!

From an article on stuff....

"It's nice to be linked with different clubs, because it shows that you're doing the right things on the pitch for your club," he said yesterday. "But I can't be happier at the moment. It's a great place to live and the boys here are a special bunch."

The Phoenix were in "pole position" for his signature. Though discussions were at an early stage, he was not looking to go elsewhere.

"As long as the terms are right, I can't see anything changing," Ifill said.

"Personally I'd rather get my future sorted out soon. If I'm going to stay, then I want it to be for a couple of years and make it home."

Ifill's girlfriend, Elle, and their three-year-old daughter, Romy, had settled well, which was a major factor.

"My girlfriend doesn't want to go anywhere. If I was to have to move it would be hard work getting her to leave I'd have to go on my own I think," Ifill laughed.

its sounding all positive. Lets just hgope his terms arent too high. He probably realises that hes worth quite a bit so will wan to see more dollars I reckon. Why not splash out for him so that his other mates from England want to come down too.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The guy is happy, no need to worry. He's happy, we're happy, Phoenix progress. what tricks and techniques are the younger players learning from him? His professional attitude must be a positive on the others. Any youngster playing college or sat am football have someone to look up to.

One of the very best signings made by the Nix.

On the money,Tigers. We want you and your family to stay, Paul Ifill.
We know gold when we've got it. Hoping Terry and Tony can come up with a deal that makes it worthwhile.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Sounds like he is settled and wants to stay.

As for the "negotiations"...it all comes down to $$$$ and time. Can't blame a profesional footballer who has just turned 30 and with a young family, from trying to get the best deal he can. If the club can come up with the money and  agree son a 3 year term then he will stay.

If he is smart he should talk to the likes of Durante....not every club in the A-League is as well run and financed as the Phoenix.

If he went to a bigger club in Europe or the middle east I would be disappointed. But thats life in the world of pro sport.if he went to another A-League club I would be absolutely gutted.

Please stay paul...we all love you!!!!!( In a manly way.)

also sounds like his gf doesn't want to leave, played an interview on zb with ifill. He's really settled here doesn't sound like he wants to go...apparently more than 5 other a-league clubs are after him - CCM is one, but over half the league want one of our guys.

Have you seen the weather here lately? Rain and I swear hail, the next sunny and nice, it's bloody stupid weather, you don't know how it's going to be from one minute to the next. Baywatch or Godzilla Vs Hedorah? FFS

I say if Ricki can sort out the weather and make sure we keep scoring goals we may have a chance of keeping Ifill.

From the interview, I would say he will look to improve his deal, but I wouldn't think it would be outrageous demands.

Marquee is the way to go for me..forget Fred and nail Ifill down.  I think he wil feel loyalty to the Nix anyway as he got hsi chane thru us in this e for their spring /summer.  Sounds like $$$$ wil be sorted somehow but if cap is an issue then marquee.
