Hello my name is John McGrath and I am a Mayoral Candidate.

1) I have been to every game apart from one which I watched live in Sydney. It was interesting hearing the commentators suprise at the obvious potential of the Phoenix. I have also met most the players since they first arrived in Wellington including Ricki Herbert who has since become a friend. I have been close friends with Terry and his family for many years. Terry and I have thrown some of the best parties in Wellington ever and organised a massive party at the Cannes film festival with our mutual friend Warriors owner Eric Watson in 2003.

2) A) I want the council to be much more involved in the promotions and publicity of the Phoenix. Terry and his management team can only do so much and the council should do as much as possible to fill the stadium. I don't think they have done nearly enough. Market research will indicate where the gaps are that need to be filled and I will impliment a council marketing/promotion plan that will add to the exising promotion. I promise you as Mayor I will fill the Stadium. I also want to see an awards dinner at the end of the season to recognise the outstanding palyers supporting by the council.
B) Football is the most popular sport in the world. It is only because of old traditions that Rugby is so popular. This is changing quickly. The success of the Phoenix will only help encourage more youth to take up the sport as now is is more accepted. This provides the council with a great opportunity to get behind the sport and promote it and yes put more money towards its development.
3) As I stated in the Capital Times this provides Wellington with a great opportunity to promote football in Wellington, New Zealand and Wellington internationally. What a great thing to happen to Wellington. I'm excited. What the council needs to do it make his visit economic by promoting the hell out of it. This can be achieved.
Be sure to look out for my Mayoral billboard truck at the next game. It says in jest "I'll play for the  Wellington Phoenix if John McGrath is Mayor" I hope you can see the humorous side of this and who knows David Beckman will like Wellington so much he just might want to stay.
Cheers John

Have you seen the ridiculous advertising this guys has??? Posters claiming that Beckham will come and play for the phoenix if he's voted in, Madonna claiming she'll bring her next concert to Welly if he's voted in. What sh*te!!!!

I cant believe the amount of election envelopes left on top off or next to or even on the floor underneath communal letter boxes amongst the junk mail in some of the larger apartment's blocks in Wellington(my job involves visiting these places frequently) ,surely this leaves the voting system open to fraudulent abuse ?
Do any of the candidates or anyone else for that matter have concerns about this?

Well i hear through the grapevine that the Prendergast victory party is already organised and invitations sent (funny enough i never got one )
Like most of us i'm sure Kerry has at times  wished for the benefit of hindsight ,well at least if she is re-elected as Mayor she will have that benefit so lets hope she dosen't make the same ridiculous mistakes  she  has made in her first two terms such as offering 7 million Dollars interest free loan to people who seem to spend 90 percent of their time on holiday in Italy  but still  wanted to build an aqurium in the wrong place !
Planting Pohutakawas along the front off Jervois quay at the cost of thousands of  dollars per tree
Showing an inability to maintain the the city's basic infrastructure to the point where the parts of the cbd are  blacked out for days  costing several businesses millions of dollars in lost revenue!
Secretly voting through funds for promoting events in the capital (theres no excuse for this kind of secrecy whatever your opinion  on the actual event is !)

Sewage, clean water, resource consents, dog walking areas ,liquor law enforcement ,safe streets etc aren't sexy subjects but they are vital to the efficient running of any city so hopefully her worship will spend a little more time on the basics next  time round!

BY THE WAY IF YOU STILL WANT TO VOTE AND HAVE NOT DONE SO YET  YOU STILL CAN  BY DROPPING YOUR BALLOT PAPER IN  AT YOUR LIBRARY OR THE COUNCIL OFFICES !

Hey we  were at the game today in aisle 21 with yellow fever and my girlfriends wallet went missing out of her bag. Not sure if she dropped it or if someone took it or picked it up by accident. Either way if anybody has it or knows where it is please get in touch. The wallet is brown patterned and has a Victoria student ID in it.
Your help is most appreciated.

Cheerz!
