Could be a good short term option for a season.

No Kossie. He rarks up Sydney and Adelaide, but I can't believe anyone would want to for him.

Didn't think the game was that bad, played to our strengths almost got 3 points. We've got an unbalanced squad that hasn't quite been able to deliver on the promise of the first game. Doesn't mean it was wrong to try.

Definitely think we should keep Stein. Think if he and Ifill spend time on the field together they will rip up. The problem is if Brockie, Ifill and Stein can work together. Hasn't happened yet.

Did anyone else hear Michael Utting talking to Waldegrave this arvo? Discussed a range of topics , including coaching. Utting made it clear he thought Ricki may have had his time. His suggestion for a replacement was...wait...wait...DECLAN EDGE.

Nearly ran off the road.

Chortle.

Problem is, it's not just one person/coach who develops a player.

I am old enough to have watched John Kosmina as a player (with Sydney City, although he was actually a West Adelaide product) and respected him as a player. He was one of the best strikers in his day, but did not make as successful a transition to a coach as his contemporaries, Graham Arnold, Frank Farina or Ange Postecoglou. John polarises people and he is a bit too much of a brawler to be a good coach for the "Nix; besides he is too inconsistent as a leader of teams and of people. He can't keep his cool under pressure, in my opinion.

After the failed Asian Cup 2007 campaign (where he was assistant coach to Graham Arnold with the Socceroos) they were both removed from the coaching job. However, Arnold seems to have learned his lessons and is now a respected, successful coach of the Mariners (and he refused to accept a much richer contract with Sydney FC). Meanwhile, John quit again. I do not think we need to swap one man that does not learn his lessons for another. At least Kosmina has a street named after him in Western Sydney (Herbert Circuit for Newtown or Pipitea, anybody?).

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Goodbye Ricki? Tonight is really a new low. Gutless, clueless, pathetic. And that's just Ricki.

Quality coaching staff there, Welnix. Well done.

Personally I still rate Ricki as a coach, however after tonight's performance I am not going to deny that it is probably time for him to move on from the club. He should be putting all his focus on the All Whites anyway. He certainly has the skills to take us into the quarters or semis of the World Cup, especially with players like Rojas and Barbourouses - yes I know this is ironic, but I want to see Ricki get a second chance to work with these talented players who he let slip from the Phoenix.

I reckon Welnix will be waiting until we are categorically out of contention for the playoffs before considering a new coach.

On the other hand, if we get Kosmina by next weekend, we might take out Brisbane based on the 'players all lift their game for the new coach' phenomenon. Which would keep our playoff hopes alive for this season. It will be a good gig for Kossie - he wants to move to Brisbane but they won't consider him til the end of the season. Turning around the Phoenix and taking them on a playoffs run would be a decent calling card for him.

At what point are the owners going to realise we'll have 3000 crowds until they do something?

Hey I never said I did not want better. I also listen to what Rob, Gareth, Rickiand David have said. All 4 have said he is staying. It's called reality whether I expect better or not.

Welnix have already said they dont give two tugs of a dead dogs dick about making the playoffs, while still agreeing to keep Ricki on

I doubt he'll go any time soon either. From a purely speculative point of view, I wonder what Ricki would have to do to get fired? Stop showing up to training?

I'm not sure it matters what they have said or not said. It's not like politics where there is a loss of face in going back on your word. Surely they will be having another chat about their situation this weekend.

They are kidding themselves if they are expecting mainstream Wellingtonians to turn up for the games when we are out of contention.

Hope Ricki is finished at the end the season - a flush out of the squad and start again.

Ricki hasnt adapted his coaching style to the ever developing A League - are we getting left behind?

New coach some new player - definately a Marquee player to bring the fans back on side.
