going to give him a go before I pass too much comment but I hope he is better the the Ryan De Vries's of this world.

We don't want to get back into the bad old habit of picking up very average Ausi players who are not good enough for other clubs.

Been there done that

I guess we have to take him. There isn't a lot of talent out there and we only have one more import spot left. We aren't in a great position to be fussy.

So did Glen Moss, apparently. "Bring Back Pavlovic"?

Good that Ernie alayed our fears by pointing out explicity that he's definitely not the number 1 striker.

Plus lots of competition in the market with so many a-league teams desimated over the off season.

Some vids to keep you amused.

He was part of Alessandro Del Piero's merry men. Can't say I remember him that much though. Reminds be a little of Greenacre from the clips I have seen.

You'd expect Merrick to get more out of him than Farina did.

Couple of nice goals for APIA.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

The people in Sydney who saw him play for FC and in the NPL seem to think this is a much better signing for the Nix than we do. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in preseason.

Younger,faster Greenacre/maybe a Burns - whats not to like?.

Gots to earn his place.

Ernie's in charge so that's good enough for me.

I think that I hazily remember something from not long after the NPL season started, maybe an FFT article or something saying that it was only a matter of where, not if, he got another A-League shot.

His goalscoring rate in the NSWPL is phenomenal. Even if he scores at a 3rd of that for us he'll be useful. Sure he didn't make it at Sydney but maybe that'll just make him hungrier for his second bite of the cherry. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Still feels like an entree though. Bring on the main course.

Krishna, McGlinchey, Appiah, Powell.

Not a bad start for the front third squad, with Fenton also an option.

Roly rolling around behind them.

And still an import slot free.

Kinda like how it is shaping up.

Again, it's the YF attitude that "anyone who would sign for us must suck". We moan about "other team's castoffs", but we'd probably moan about "inexperienced youth", which is the other option given the lack of an open chequebook.

...is that what you meant Patrick? It doesn't seem like that's what you meant. It looks like what you meant was that people that know more than what we might seem to think he's a better signing than we do...

Long time reader and first time poster.

We have another striker.  He fizzed at Sydney but went well in the lower leagues.

Ernie wouldn't have signed him if he was rubbish, give the lad a chance and welcome him to the Nix!!

Sounds a lot like another Alex Smith.

I think Doloras was using Patrick's post as evidence of the attitude she was describing - that non-Phoenix fans think it's a much better signing than Phoenix fans do. She wasn't saying that Patrick was saying "anyone who would sign for us must suck".

Or another Manny Muscat (in striker form). Plus doesn't take up an import spot like Smith did.

Seem to recall there were similar not so positive comments when Burns was signed about his form and injuries. While he might not be in Burns class lets all hope the Ernie can work his magic. Not sure what others think but cant see how we can attract better players with our licence seemingly still in the pipeline.

Well, he's a potential goal threat and not an import and probably not a million dollars.

Does it make our squad better? You better believe it.

Like this. Good addition to the squad.

could be really good or handy, but it seems like a signing that is in an area we need and doesn't eliminate our options elsewhere.

We now have two young Aussie winger strikers, plus Louis and Roy. Plenty to work with there. If Roly, A-Rod and Wee Mac are in the goals we are beginning to have depth in the front of the park, with the potential to sign another striker/goal scorer with pedigree not ruled out.

A good sign for me.

Assuming Ernieuses the import spot to come in with a good player up front to start striker, then that attack in midfield is really good in my opinion with really strong depth up front, i'm very happy with the Powell signing.

Only issue is in defence, hoping we can sign a couple of handy players to help out

Blake Powell is also mates with Marc Warren. Might be worth a look at the troublesome left back position.

He was sooooooooooo bad at Sydney, think most of their fans have him as their LB in their worst team of the decade lists.
