considering Rogerson and Powell, that's possibly a strange signing. Very jammed up top already. Not saying he not worth it, just reeks of duplicity.

What do you mean "maybe"? At the fan forum I asked Ernie whether the 3-5-2 we had been playing in the preseason was the preferred formation, or just experimenting and adding another strong to our bow. Ernie insisted we had been playing 3-4-3, and said it was just another string to our bow

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Welcome Troy Danaskos on a one year deal.

Permalink Permalink

On the basis of the game on Saturday I'd say that's a good signing. He looked very tidy, a good defender, but with an attacking instinct. Played some nice one-twos and seemed to have good ball control and pretty quick feet. And plus, it's nice to finally have a specialist leftback. The question is, can he fill the mighty boots of Tony Lochhead?

What I liked is that from what I saw on attack he seemed to be a ninja of getting himself into good space around the halfway line to receive the ball then move it off without putting any danger on the possession. Could be due to it being Auckland but I noticed it multiple times he would make runs that had the opposition defender retreating and the wing pulled away and he had this nice little pocket to play in.

Hopefully with some more time in the setup he will get even better, I think this could be a really good signing.

What are the chances of Rufer and Ridenton being re-upped at the end of this year? Would it be fair to say that it is slim?

Wouldn't Surprise me if Rufer is re signed as he seems to be coming into play a lot more this preseason, and he was looking pretty good in the mid on Saturday. Ridenton Im not so clear on, partly because I understand for Weenix last year he was shuffling round positions a bit (I might be wrong here), and he doesn't seem to be getting the same sort of preseason exposure as Rufer (Rufer has spent more time with senior players on the pitch from what I read).

What is interesting for me is the Krishna, Gorrin debate for end of the year, Assuming Krishna has another year like last do you resign him or look for another foreign forward that's more potent? Krishna exceeded my expectations last year and he is still only 28 so hopefully he can improve this year but Gorrin still has a +1 on his contract is young/still developing and I still really like him as a player.

I just cant see us going through next offseason without a foreign signing unless we win the league.

smells of an RH signing to me, one game and one practice session. He might be the goods but does smell a bit of last minuteness.

It's not "one game and one practice session".

he played for WSW in the game last week against the Nix, so they got to see him in that game too, so it's two games, and one practice session. Plus they had been scouting him before that too.

I'm hoping he's more Manny than Caira/Brindell-South/Downey/Tsattalios. We don't have a great record with full backs pulled from state leagues..

Justin Gulley signs pro contract.

One year deal.

Always appeared to me as having a good attitude. Seems hungry to make a goer of this football thing.

Will see if he can make a mark at this level.

Congrats.

Gulley is the 8th of the 9 original FSE boys to have been contracted to the club at some point. Only Alec Solomons has missed out.

Is he really only 1.74m (5 foot seven) tall? (Got this info from

http://www.transfermarkt.com/justin-gulley/profil/spieler/166049 )

Average height for males in NZ is 1.77m mate.

(I am defending him because I am bang on average height also)

Anyway, not really the experienced CB cover I was hoping for..

So Gulley has played stuff all preseason and gets a contract over the seemingly well performed DiMairo?

Any one think thats a little odd?

Ernie may feel Dimairo needs a bit more time. Also been playing him on the left and he wanted a right sided player.

Also, 1.74m is just under 5ft 9" (5ft 8.5" to be more precise). Google is converting feet into decimal placings - which I'm not sure is the right thing to do as anyone who use feet as a measurement would list it at feet and inches.

Isn't DiMairo naturally a right footed/sided player?

Yes.  And has played on the right in preseason, notably the FFA game against Melbourne City, where according to Ernie he was "terrific".  Disappointing, although maybe he has to bide his time like Gulley obviously has.

Not really, Ernie has been able to see a whole lot more of Gulley over the last so many years he has been on the fringes at the club. So he [Ernie] might have a certain perception of him based on that.
