doesn't make sense. Isn't this the guy who turned down a championship team as it may impact on his ability to do his time and secure permanent residence (which happens two years after residence)

Someone's wrong here

Yeah, that was reported and I bought that up but Hampster got it straight from the horses mouth.

Roly and Jeff - sounds like a kids' TV show with puppets

So on the official Nix app, there is a menu. On the menu there is a Squad list. Are these our 21 contracted players?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

No Jeff? The list of defenders is terrifying.

Permalink Permalink

Add Sarpong and that makes 22. But are they all contracted?

Doesn't help that Manny's listed as a midfielder

Interesting the lack of middle names

They are probably deciding if they really are going to call him a striker

Our squad has all the hall marks of the owners saying "we've spent a lot on developing our own players so time to start including some of them" rather than looking at including only those who are good enough.  Really unconvinced by our team

if we get Tam and then splash out for a decent, proven FB and CB, I'd be happy, but not sure how likely that is.

It just feels weaker given we've lost Burns and our old guys are another year older.

This is kind of how Welnix have said the Phoenix will go about their business, develop talent, promote youth, and keep costs down (and exploit the fact that we have a monopoly for professional football in NZ by signing the best players and selling them at a profit, which of course will be used to help fund the club).

My guess is that from now on we will see more of this sort of stuff, young team, with a few key seasoned pros, and a handful of overseas quality, sigining 17 year olds to pro contracts, etc.

The future of the club kind of relies on this sort of team working.

I hope we sign a good CB to one of the final slots though.

The loss of Boxall is the biggest issue for me because we haven't replaced him yet and all of a sudden our defensive stocks look very threadbare.

Our younger guys are also a year older/more developed. Think Roly and A-Rod in particular.

This intrigues me. This used to be the case previously. In Sydney's squad, their mature age rookie is #24 but looks like the FFA have given Tavares special dispensation to retain his number (27) from last season.

Sarpong still trying to get match fit. Hmmm

Fixed.

I've seen him. He's fit, no doubt about that mat.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hard to get match fit when you're riding an exercise bike in the gym and other players are playing matches I reckon.

That probably doesn't reflect very well on Rovers then, he was playing in trials with us.

As already said Ernie isn't saying that he's not fit, it's just that his fitness isn't at the right level. He doesn't want to play Sarpong in a friendly and have him tear something.

So...he's not fit? :D

Depends on your definition of fit. For me, 'not being fit' beings 'not being fit enough to play a proper game', which he isnt'.
