Newshub just announced Davila would be out from around March-May, as him and his wife are having a baby boy which will be born in Mexico.

Specific wording was that they have a baby due in March, which they will be having in Mexico, and would be back before May, so it might not be that drastic.

Yes! Apologies for any confusion.

Both incidents are yellow cards, the argument really is the advantage played. If he hadn't played the advantage, he wouldn't have made the tackle that resulted in the second yellow card. Its interesting as haven't seen it before

Thanks for the video.

Love how the commentator almost swore on air

Olyroos with a 2-1 win over Thailand.

Some great work from Piscopo in the highlights.

Olyroos draw with Bahrain 1-1 to make next round. Another assist from Piscopo. Nice through ball. Highlights here.

https://www.socceroos.com.au/news/australia-u-23s-book-a-quarter-final-spot

"Australia will now take on the second-placed side from Group B in a last-eight showdown at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium on Saturday evening. Australia’s opponents on Saturday night will be Saudi Arabia, Syria, or Qatar."

Opposition maybe questionable but seems he is on fire over in Siam. Good news esp with neuvo padre Davila to miss a few games, after Piscopo returns.

It's happened numerous times. It was an excellent piece of refereeing and Wilson was an idiot.

Not for the first time.

Wouldn't mind seeing Piscopo in his role.

Pretty sure Davila is keen to stay on as father!

Olyroos are off to Tokyo.

Beat Uzbekistan 1-0, in 3rd/4th playoff. Goal D'Agostino (47 mins).

https://www.socceroos.com.au/news/australia-u-23s-qualify-tokyo-2020-olympic-games

Uzbeks had a sub come on at 53 mins, only to be sent off 6 mins later! Costly.

Piscopo replaced at 86 mins. He's had a lot of playing time in the Thai heat and humidity, so will probably appreciate the week off with his Nix team mates. Started 5 of the Olyroo's 6 games over 2.5 weeks. Only game he didn't start (still got 25 mins off the bench) against Sth Korea, they lost.

Can the Olyroos be in same pool as the Oly Whites in Tokyo?

Not long ago we were discussing how Wilson was booked twice in the same passage of play to earn a red card on his WeeNix debut.

I found this video which shows the same thing occurring (I haven't seen Wilson's two fouls so I can't compare it, but in the video's case I agree with the referee 100%).

great refereeing in that clip. 2 fouls at different ends of pitch and referee seems to warn him on the run as they leave defensive half. In the nix game fouls were in the same attacking half a few seconds apart

Amazing effort by the player to get back quick enough to even make the second challenge.

Will put my hand up and admit the doubts i expressed about him have been proved wrong. Will say though my comments were based on what a friend who supports Bristol City had said about him .

Very happy to admit my mistake.

I reckon Rollo must be delighted with that interview - Gothard said more than Talay has the whole season (no criticism of Talay btw).

Love the none too subtle dig at Rudan about Kurto being asked to do things that are not his strengths this year. I thought maybe Kurto had it over Marinovic as a stopper, but that's been proven false over course of season now. And, Marinovic is easily better than Kurto from a distribution point of view.

Yep, pretty silly tackles those two (and quite reckless) but he did well tracking back all the way to his box!

Really? He's 20 years old, still very much in his development stages, and by all accounts a 'utility' player. Wouldn't think he'd be chucking his toys right now over lack of senior minutes, and his non-selection is hardly a dismissal of his talents.

Simply put, there are more experienced and better (at this point in time, anyway) players ahead of him. Give him time and see what happens.

The fact he wasn't even on the bench is a pretty obvious tell as to what Talay thinks of him.

Not sure why people seem so quick to discard some players particularly some of the younger ones. Not every player arrives ready to play first team football. Thankfully Talay seems to have more patience than some of you and seems to being do a good job in working with some of the younger players .Its not even just the younger ones he seems to be able to get more out of.

We'll see next season, but I'd be very surprised if Elliot got another contract. Talay has given plenty of other young players a chance, no? Elliot has been in the setup for a while now and has not broken through. Even with an injury to the first choice RB and a suspension to the 2nd choice, he's still with the WeeNix..

Stolen from RR's most recent update, below is list of off contract players at season end.

Luke De Vere, Callan Elliot, Gary Hooper [V], Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi, Callum McCowatt, Liam McGing, Walter Scott, Matti Steinmann [V]

Compared to previous seasons the list is small.

Unlike with his first campaign Talay doesn't have a huge amount of wriggle room for bringing in some new players, esp young players - before the start of next season. That includes signing any of the Weenix to a full contract. There's already talk of Clayton Lewis, joining the Nix next season.

Of course Libby would free up a spot if he is sold. Plus if Fenton doesn't recover from his latest injury (though he seems determined to do so), could be a release by mutual consent

But yes Elliot, McGing & Scott would all especially appear vulnerable - given lack of game time they have been getting. That's the brutality of pro sport.

Elliot scored for the Weenix didn't he yesterday? That would help.

Squad 14/23 (Min: 20)
Visas 3/5 (Ball, Dávila & Taylor)
u21 2/3 (Cacace & Waine)

Elliot, McCowatt & Scott are still eligible for u21 spots if re-signed.

Elliot's chances of being re-signed probably comes down to what position Talay sees him as. If he thinks he is a midfielder, Sam Sutton is a far better prospect and should be signed ahead of him. If he sees Elliot as a RB then maybe he has a chance. I think it is unlikely we re-sign him tho.

None of the players in that list are irreplaceable - Steinmann the best out of the lot, but if he leaves, we've got another import spot to play with.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see some players offer their services to us after seeing what Talay has done in his first season.Maybe we might be an attractive proposition for some, which would make a pleasant change.

Agreed. Makes me think that is what drove Taylor to say that he wants to finish his career here. While it may be a stretch to expect Ball or Hooper to do likewise, it is not outside of the realm of the possible.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
