That drama from a few weeks ago in the zone re Liverpool blanket had reared its head on radio sport this morning with devlin...

Why would anyone listen to Devlin?  He's exactly the sort that would wear a United top to a Phoenix game.

Luckily no one took the bait, no calls about the issue.

Mark Watson just asked his producer (of African decent) "Do people like you get sunburn?"...

Ha! I'm listening to the Devlin piece - banging on about it.  Really slow news day.

And they didn't get the joke about Warwick's name (hint Martin: say it quickly).

Sorry finished and quit the web page before I read your post.  It's Radio Sport on demand and is the 11 am - 12 noon mp3 section (four clips).  Just fast forward all the ads and Super 12 stuff.

I'm not Devlin's biggest fan but let's not get carried away, he's no Veitch.

Devlin is a prize fudgewit that thinks he is gods gift to football. Some days he can be outstanding and others, he just needs a good punch in the face and left snivelling in the gutter.

Watson is a small time voice that thinks cause he has a radio platform, that his opinion must mean something.

Just listened to it now. To be fair to Devlin he made it pretty clear that YF was a loosely put together group turn up chant etc.rather then having a massive go and pulling out the YF elitist BS. Interesting to hear that the Herald and 3news had stories ready to go but didn't get them out.

Because they realised it wasn't a story.  Stll, cricket starts soon and then Radio Sport becomes listenable.

Can we not resort to petty name calling please. Clearly media people read these forums so why give them ammo?

In the case of Veitch prick is actually a compliment, relative to what he should be called.

Well Watson does...he said in 2012 that it was shameful for NZ to lose to an Oceania nation because some PNGers still do cannibalism.

Pretty unfair from you Vader. I presume you are alluding to his dark past with previous girlfriend, attempted suicide etc? He has been quite open about this over the years on radio and I'd think a recovering alcoholic would have a bit more understanding than what you've displayed. In no way do I condone what he did all of those years ago but recognise that he had serious issues that I hope have been addressed. As a sports broadcaster, I honestly think he is the best in NZ by a country mile.

How about the Fraud in his trial, has he addressed that?

Without sounding like a cheerleader - there were no criminal charges relating to fraud at any stage. Perhaps we should get all of the forum members on here to disclose their past and then we can decide whether or not to take any notice of what they have to write? All I'm saying is that we shouldn't be too quick to judge people for the mistakes they've made.

Oh I think he is the best sports broadcaster in the NZ currently. Doesn't mean I have to like him. Just like you are allowed to occasionally enjoy one of my opinions. Doesn't mean you need to like me.

I don't condone hitting a woman. Its always easiest to say 'well I did this because of the drink' but that's not taking full responsibility for you own actions. I don't recall if he actually said that or not but just cause you are in a dark place, does now give you a leave pass on your actions.

Just going back to the (news) story. Media is taking what a bunch of football fans say on a forum as a news source. Then reporting on it three weeks later. That is sad. If you read this post, a forum is not a news source, it is where people go to write stuff they would not usually say in public. And a report on a towl shows that you are the only reporter still on the discredit the bandwagon. Move on.

To be fair he didn't hit her, just kicked her repeatedly when she was lying on the ground, breaking her back.

Absolutely bang on from NP those two posts above. Since when are people not allowed second chances?

Three for me, and two for them.

Veitch is a terrible broadcaster. He is nothing but a yes man, cuddling up to certain all blacks and sports administrators, trying to move back to herne bay and no doubt hoping that he will get more speaking gigs.

Veitch is the reason I don't listen to Radio Sport anymore.  I remember when he first took over from Devlin on the breakfast shows - completely ruined it.

I like Veitch - as a broadcaster, sure, he's not perfect and is a sucky with some of the "elite" sportspeople but that's his job. More often than not (and certainly more often than many of his colleagues) he will "attempt" to provide some sense of balance to an issue and provide a platform for various views.\

Sure, he's not perfect and I certainly don't agree with a lot of what he says, but in a personality/opinion driven media environment who (besides Piney), is?

From a football perspective we have improved in recent years in terms of coverage from the sports media. If you go back to the days of Dekker he knew nothing about the sport and when Football was raised he usually rubbished the game. Thank goodness he has moved on.

Then we had  silly  Willie Loosee. I recall when The All Whites won the Halbergs he went on like a real clown making the usual derogatory comments about "Soccer" . Then of course when the Bocca Juniors came out to play The Phoenix, he wanted to know why they did not bring their senior team. Devlin & Veitch have their faults  but at least they promote the game. Piney though is fantastic and we need another dozen Piney's in  the media.

Football has received a lot more coverage in recent years but still not enough. The big challenge is still TV where "Baby Boomer"Rugby Heads run the sports news.

The only thing that pisses me off with Vietch at the moment is him banging on about getting the Nix to move to Auckland. As if they last two experiements (Kingz & Knights) proved a roaring success. And no, I am not having a go at those fans that did turn up and did make the effort to make it a success.

Devlin, I used to knock around with Martin and his brother Karl way back in the mid 70's to early 80's. Way back then, Martin was a smart alec but he was actually a Manure fan along with his brother. So he isn't a plastic fan in that respect. He knew his football through and through as did the four of us (There was another firend to make up the quartet.). We used to live reading Shoot Magazines and playing football out the front of the old Bryant & May match factory as the grass surface was perfect and we had a wall on which to mark out some goals. It was also to play 2 aside or 4 aside if others showed up.

Although Martin went on from strength to strength he had a history growing at the Basin and on the radio for being a bit too smart which is a shame. Perhaps he has an ego that is out of control, I don't know. I called him a wanker once and he nor the other guy have spoken to me which is kinda amusing.

My point was I am sick of Leitch bitching that the Nix should move to Auckland. And or be the New Zealand Nix.

Veitch is just your typical NZ media beat up wizard - no idea about football or the knights/kingz history - at least devlin is a footy fan - albeit a manure supporter.
