Was changed after the Hutt Wreck game when croud was misspelled on the screen at the game.

It's worrying that Dome is so out of touch with such things. 30k at 7pm on a Sunday?! LOL.

It should really just be top 4.

3rd v 4th, winner plays second, winner of that plays first in the final.

But then first doesn't play for 3 weeks.

It'd also mean a lot of teams are out of finals contention fairly early on.

True, but games don't necessarily have to be spread over 3 weeks. Perhaps have 1 or 2 midweek games.

Also, top 6 qualifying in a 10 team league is fairly ridiculous really.

I view the issue is no relegation to keep things exciting at the other end of the table.

Steve-O, I know it is income for Foxtel but I have wondered why don't they just take the top 4 teams at the end of the season and do a 1V3 & 2V4 semi then a grand final and save all the other crap. They have a cup competition now that they could kick start later in the season so that final is also near the end of the season instead of a 3rd of the way in.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Yeah I think it's the second point there. Top 6, although it has it's faults, keeps most teams in with at least a sniff until very late in the season. Especially since there's no promotion/relegation, there's only spoon avoidance for the bottom couple.

Because long, drawn-out finals series are Aussie tradition (AFL, NRL).

My alternative system. Top 5 into playoffs.
1st goes straight into grand final as reward for being top after 27 rounds. 2nd v 5th, 3rd v 4th. Winners of those play eachother to find second finalist.

Buggar that under some of the systems some you are suggesting we would have missed the playoffs again.Go on go and give yourselves a smack.

No, we finished 4th.  None of the systems that have been suggested would've seen us miss out?

Hopefully cheating isnt going to be an annual event,so yes we would miss them.

Top 6 is pretty ridiculous really. A team can afford to win 1/3rd of their games and still have a chance at winning the league.

Three for me, and two for them.

Problem with this again is the top team has too big a break before the final.

The old top 5 system from the NSWRL in the early 90s.... now there was a freaking complicated but fair system.

03 May 01:55 · edited 03 May 01:56 · History

How about we scrap the league portion of the season and have an extended playoff system, where each team plays each other 3 times and the team with the most points at the end are the champions?

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

03 May 02:45

I don't like Playoffs, but think 6 teams is stupid in a 10 team league.

For me if we look at Top 4 and the FFA/Fox want 5 games then the solution would be 2-Legged Semis Home & Away (All Top 4 teams get a home playoff still) and then a final with the top 2...This also allows more opportunity to teach Andrew Mulligan about Away Goals counting double or something.

If we dont get 30k, the Nix wont play any more playoff games in Wellington in future...

As I keep saying, the reason there are so many finals with so many teams involved is that that's Australian tradition. FFA is competing with AFL and NRL who have their own overblown finals series.

AFL and NRL aren't as bad though. The solution to me is just to expand the league to hopefully 14 teams and then the 6 team playoff series is fine. The real reason we have playoffs are because there is no promotion/relegation, highly sought after European places or an extensive list of cup competitions.

I don't actually mind the playoff system. Probably because I'm used to it. I should point out that no team that has finished lower than 3rd has ever made a grand final.

I know they do this in England but I'm not a fan. What advantage does the team who comes first have over the 4th placed team? I think that system makes things even worse. At least under the current system the team who comes first gets a good advantage.

03 May 03:57

Yeah I think it's fine. Aside from the obvious stupidity of being able to finish in the bottom half of the table then go on to win the grand final. But that'll change once 3 more Aussie teams come in and we get kicked out.

He kept going on with the end is nigh if we don't get a big croud as some boss from the FFA is out here and when he sees the small croud  he will pull the plug on us.

Of course he  questioned why the it should not be shifted to Auckland. The "Wife Beater"  is pretty much in the mould of  Dekker who knew nothing about football, called it soccer and rubbished the crap out of the game at every opportunity he got.

No thats not quite true.  Melbourne Victory have won the league already,  they are the league champions.  The finals series is another comp all together.  Winners of league (MV) and the winners of the finals serious both get entry to ACL (unless its us of course)
