Crowds - The thread of Australian whining

We thought so at the start of the game (although for the second time in a row some people were in our seats - just gave us an excuse to move closer to the FZ).

What was the previous worst? Was it the mid-week against NQF in the rain back two seasons ago?

Nope, against the jets in November 09.

The Chairman of the club would sincerely like to thank the hardy 3898 supporters who turned out yesterday in appalling conditions to watch the game. It's a true testament to the dedication and commitment of those fans that they braved some of the worst conditions to support their team.

The players would also like to express their sincere thanks to all those who braved the conditions.

Thank you again for your support!

Just checked wiki - I got confused with the NQF game on a Friday night in the same season, both scores 3-0 to the Nix.

Jests game I took a mate from work to, it was a bit cold and showery (we were around the halfway mark and he was marvelling at the pertness of the FZ chest bumps at 80 mins).

We dragged the whole family down from Wanganui for the day cause was Mr 6's birthday.

The day seemed to go from bad to worse..

First 'treat' was going to be a train ride into the city for him and Miss 4, while I took Mr 2 and picked up Mr 12 from the airport.

Dropped off wife, and the 2 young ones, only to get a txt later saying that there were no trains running on that line, and they were on a bus to the train station.

Then we had to wait in the driving wind/rain with all 4 kids while Red Badge made us check in the lethal weapon we were transporting Mr 2 in (otherwise known as a stroller).

Luckily found some seats under cover so the kids could be dry, to have some knob complain about the noise Mr 2 was making by playing with the seats (I'm wondering if he couldn't hear the YF chants clearly, so was annoyed by that).

And then the boys lose. To Perth. Soft goal too. Bloody Poppa Scouse should have saved it.

What a day, at the time it felt like a waste of a couple of hundred dollars, and that I failed in giving him a good birthday pressie. He did however enjoy the Wendy's in Paraparaumu!

But, all that aside, we're all looking forward to the next family trip to the Nix, maybe this time i'll check the forecast, train schedules etc BEFORE booking tickets.

Lesson learned.

Tweeted him some info on why Jets get such large crowds, I'm hoping he sees it how its intended in a positive form rather than looking like a shut down approach.

Think of N Castles location to C Coast and Sydney. A bit closer that to Welly.

If we had the same dirt cheap prices, I am sure we could beat their crowds.

Do the Jests have more community activities and team meet and greet sessions? Noticeably absent here over the last two seasons.

Disagree.

Mojo onthe waterfront, Various events in Midland Park, Frank Kitts Park, Porirua Mall and I think Lower Hutt spring to mind.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

They might do some community work, but when you have 10,000 members you will tend to get bigger crowds than a club with just over 2,000 season ticket holders.

These were during work days (or at least some of them were)

No open day, team signings at Queensgate etc., any school visits?

I was referring to the season tickets at $120 for Adults, $60 for Kids

How many season members do they have vs our season member numbers?

Couple weeks into the season, Jets said they had reached 10,000 members. Dunno if that means all are season ticket holders, and read somewhere we have around 2,300 season ticket holders (not 100% sure about that figure tho)

$15 next game - as far as dirt goes that's pretty muddy.

If we were a football club it would be easier to get people to become members.

But we are not a football club. We are a franchise. Make it a football club, and people might become members...

Jets also have the pseudo Barca colours. That's got to count for 5k. We're only Hull of the South Pacific - probably only worth 1k (sorry tigers).

We should have chosen red. All the best fans follow red teams.

agree re: ticket prices.

The game at Eden Park was heavily discounted tickets, they got a large crowd.

This weekend first real attempt at cheap Phoenix tickets I can remember, and as far as I know, first real attempt to get the local clubs more in behind the Phoenix, like rugby and league have been doing for so many years.

Gareth looking at the recent crowds, but also said they were looking long-term. Which does he want?
about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Jets are focusing on getting a larger supporter base, and are willing to lose some of Tinkler's money on the short term by offering the season tickets at that price. With the new owners goal of making the Nix self funding, the Jets are really not the best club for us to be compared too.

This!

Any news on how the Six Summer tickets have sold?

Can they do/offer 'The final four' version! (prob too late now)

SO....

'Three of the best'

If I weren't a season ticket holder - and a deal was done for the last three games, given where the team is now - it would get a few hundred more bums on seats...

Or maybe allow people to withdraw funds from their Kiwisaver to go to the Nix games!

A tweet is like a press release. Thats how people need to think before they hit the button to post it.
