I've said it before but in this day and age the cost of food, drink and travel has got to be a factor as to why families don't attend the nix more often. Beer has got to have gone up a dollar every season on 4.
You get two home games with a week or so and that's a lot of money.
Throw in the weather and kick off times.
Too many reasons NOT to goto a football game and not enough reasons to go.
I'm inclined to think this is it. In this 11-12 season, there's not big dramatic reasons why people aren't coming, just an accumulation of reasons the decision makers in every family might mull over when they consider the question "Can we/will we go to the Nix this week?"
(I assume the 3500+ of us committed fans who turn up without question aren't affected by these factors.. or any others I omit)

Is it AFFORDABLE?- ticket price, transport cost and/or parking, cost of food, beverages, etc
Is it FAMILY FRIENDLY?- early enough to get the kids home at a reasonable time, adequate provision for family needs, food options, etc
What about the COMFORT factor? -Going to all the effort and expense to go to a Nix game vs. staying warm and dry/cool at home and watching it on Sky..or on the internet??
ie,.. What about the pitiful lack of shelter between parking, ticketing and stadium seats... it's abysmal!! How many thousands each season say "can't be bothered" having to run the gauntlet when it's crap weather?
Do we LIKE the Phoenix? -Not just in the social media sense, but do we feel a connection, some ownership-are they
our Nix?.. do we know some of the players, are we engaged, do we follow the Wellington Phoenix story enough to overcome all the above and anything else life throws at us and front up most weeks?
Here's a Nix players and management "TO DO" LIST through to season 11/12 end and beyond...(feel free to add to it)
-Keep up the current on-field performances please..against the odds and the pundits. We all love backing our own winners!
-Come up with an effective marketing/ social media/ p.r. mix that maintains and builds the Nix profile and continues to engage the Wellington and wider communities. They have done it before, lost some traction in the recent past, it's definitely on the up now ..and it can be even better.
-Make changes to those things they can control, bring pressure to bear wherever change is required from others to improve things.
-
Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!
