An easy win

STOP HAVING SO MANY SUNDAY GAMES

Find a parent that wants to take their kid to a game on a Sunday when there is school the next day. Saturday is so much easier and we don't tend to get many of them, or Friday ones.
Even if Friday night fixtures are crap for Aussie TV, there are usually 2 on a Saturday and 2 on a Sunday. Rotate our 13/14 home games through each slot and we should get at least half Saturday games.

Edit: Just came to me as well. Saturday, 5pm, in the sunshine (ok it was in Auckland) = 20k. Boom!

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF JEFF

I find the Sunday afternoon games are perfect for my family. That's when most other weekend activities are over and done with. It's not like the games are at 7:30 in the evening.

In fact, this season has been brilliant with so many Sunday (and a few Saturday) afternoon games. My 5 year old has been able to go to just about every home game.

I don't mind the sunday matches, but I can see for some families and also Monday morning Hangover Dodgers it can be a problem.

Still reckon its simply Great publicity by Gareth. NIx on the front page of the Paper Mid-Week (Nothing to do with Terry scandal) opinion pieces, lots of radio coverage, good amount of chatter by 'casual fans' around town.

While it's a scary topic, isn't this what we want? lots of chatter and hype about the NIx leading up to a big Game this weekend.

The first final, wasn't there a number $5 tickets? Also when your into the finals series, there is normally much higher media coverage, what does help.

Could understand his comments if we had seen some DECENT marketing campaigns this season but a few radio adds,a few posters and the odd  newspaper piece  add up to buggar all input from the club.

Seems they rely on us far to much to promote the games for them, then to be threatened with taking another game away.

Sadly that would  make me rethink becoming a member.Im not in a position to be able to go to away home games  due to work.I can begrudgingly accept 2 but any more will certainly test my loyalty which has so far seen me only miss the two exhibition games at the stadium.

Yep some of you will say we are selfish but last time i looked it was Wellington Phoenix and just why you would want to take away another home game in a tight competition i dont get.If you think two away wins against a couple of the lower teams has turned our away form around you are in dreamland.

Yes... and I think that is what most of it is.  Gareth is no mug and I would think he is aware that the novelty wpould wear off and a travelling roadshow would lose the wow factor of a one-off game, but by talking it up he frightens people in to attending AND keeps the club awareness in front of all punters.

Still, if we get spanked it will all be for nothing and we won't be able to buy a crowd anywhere,

On the weekend street parking time limits finish at 6. So unless you leave your car somewhere for something else beforehand it isn't an issue. The friday games you might have to purchase 30-60 minutes of parking ($2-$4) to play it safe.

So here are my ideas:

Play a game at the Basin. Bring back that novelty factor.
Co-ordinate with Wellington trains so that the trains don't leave at exactly the same time the game finishes - have a few minutes delay. Tell people this in advance. We like certainty and it takes away an excuse.
Have more than one home game in another city, but subtract the price from the season ticket to acknowledge us season ticket holders aren't going to all travel, and this will not alienate us.
Have the home games in other cities over the Xmas / NY period, when people are out of town anyway. Hold it in holiday hotspots such as Napier, which have strong football followings.
Feedback from people I talk to suggests Sunday afternoon works great for families - so keep them.
Start a tradition of a co-ordinated march down to ROF from Backbencher / Thistle xx minutes before the game - blow a whistle and we all up and leave together, chanting on the way down. It will spark curiosity and people who don't watch the football who have never been before will come along and check it out.

Right, back to my real job.

Good luck.

Pathetic. Not apathetic.

Something else i find interesting is the Welnix nine must have been fully aware that the club wasnt about to make money any time soon, and if they didnt then that says even more.I seem to recall some noise they made when they took over that they didnt expect to make money.Yet here we are just over halfway into our first season with them buggar all marketing done by the club no decent signings and already they talk about taking more games away.

How about they put the same effort into promoting a Wellington game as they did in auckland ,all those freebie tickets and the cheap ones on the net,the promotion by the players about town etc.Just maybe if the same effort was put into your home town you might get a return.

I understand there is a 2 hour limit at all times. meaning you can't park, get to game and back to car within limit.

Eden Park took the hit on those tickets.

Freebies are expected for one-offs like Dunedin/Auckland.

There are freebies to be had in Wellington but understandably (and Feverish will be with me on this one), no more talk of free tickets please!

Yep, but we will usually get into town for a 5pm game at 3/3.30pm (trip to BB before game...) so would pass the 2 hours b4 6

True that. That's a tough one.

Agreed. There are so many freebies given out at that stadium for various events that I know people who genuinely feel hard done by when they have to pay, to the point they won't bother going!

I agree, we were winning, in the finals.

We are winning now, there is a chance that we could be in the finals on current form, so where are the crowds?

CCM are winning, they are at the top of the league by miles - they had about 7,000-odd at their last game. That is only a little over our average.

Those finals crowds against Perth and the Planes were different though. I remember selling some excess tickets for the Perth game as I had assumed that I had booked seats together when I hadn't. I bought new tickets etc. etc. etc.

The point is, those tickets I sold (at face value I promise) went to someone in Cambridge and someone north of Auckland. How many more fans outside of the Wellington area will be at the games if we get a home semi? I know that I will be there.

Maybe we have to make each home game an event, like they were saying on the radio this morning. Realy whore it out. Lots of loud techno music to drown out the crowd, mascots galore, brazlian drums, dry ice etc.

There also isn't the whole World Cup thing going on, but I don't really buy into that 100%. I honestly think that Wellington just has a core of about 8,000 people who are willing to engage in watching A League football live in a stadium. I think it is about the same at the CCM and not much more at the Roar.

So yeah, make it a bit different and entertaining. Like having a dirt bike show during half-time.

Only problem is I have barely heard a peep about Sunday's game among all of this. I have read several articles today about all of this and I am still not sure what the KO time is on Sunday.

I think that's a REALLy good idea.

I suspect that some of the Yellow fever will be offended by it and be against it in the "if you need a theme to get you along, then you're not a real football fan" sort of mould...

But I think it is WELL worth trying. If it gets other people to come to the games it's a great idea.

There is nothing I love more than loud techno music drowning out a football crowd in full voice. Especially after scoring a goal. That makes me so excited I do a teeny-tiny fist pump.

How do Perth have zero booking fees on tickets, and how can we do the same? $29 is one thing, but putting another $5.25 on it and pushing a ticket well beyond $30 really is a psychological barrier for some people.

$25 and NO booking fee seems fair to me.

Regarding why we get crowds during the finals...isn't it obvious,it's because it is the most meaningful game, sudden death. Games toward the end of the season also seem more meaningful as you can see a picture of how the table will turn out if we win/lose.

At the start of the season games don't seem as meaningful. This reflects in our attendances over the years too.

If you want people to show up you need to make games seem like they really mean something. Play on thebreturn of an ex player,Even
this blackout game has made the game seem meaningful in the eyes of the casual fan.

Allegedly
