Totally agree too. Gareth is just telling like he sees it -no beating about the bush.We could get over ourselves and just get behind him and the Nix.

its also relative. Other entertainment prices are going to be similar. Movie Ticket prices for example are the same as they are here, just in AUS$, not NZ. So you could make a case to just take the prices as they are.

In which case we are the most expensive.

If we're trying to get more people in, it's either the casual, or the new fan that we're really targeting.

What about something like what the Fury did, bit tacky, but was kinda funny. Their whole 'Fur-gin' shirts. I'm sure that came along with some special deal aimed at enticing first timers along to the game.

If you can get people along, and get them to experience the atmosphere, you could capture a few more people i'm sure.

First timer package: Shirt & ticket: $40.

Shirt has squares on it, that if you get it stamped / signed by a Phoenix gimp (or whatever those full body leotard wearing legends are called) each time you go, and you get your 6th match free, and a banner that says "I'm an official Nix Sixer" or something.

Maybe tie it in with the Nix Six ticket deal..

Just thinking out loud...

Why not let the fever sell the tickets to the fever zone? Let them take a wee cut of each ticket sold too?

I still love the fact that the only place that has people checking your tickets is the 'cheap seats' of the Fever Zone.

Every other ailse, just sit wherever you like.

Yellow Whever Whanganui

Those prices are not correct though. Just checked, tickets to the next game (heart) are $25 for an adult, kids 9, students 15. I believe they are lower than the start of the season.

edit: I am disapointed at the crowds. It would have been nice to have a bit of positivity though. The last 10 months have been pretty much a constant stream of bad publicity over finances, important player jumping ship, injuries, early season form etc etc. Things were finally looking up a bit and it would have been nice to enjoy it for a while. I don't mind him saying it though, ultimately I hope it does encourage people in. There are quite a few people in wellington interested but go to very few games.

Also, i remember I came to my first game because I saw an ad on TV (Sky Sports) that said the Nix were playing, and tickets were just $25. At the time i didnt realise they were so cheap.

Perhaps people don't actually realise that they're fairly cheap.

A little more of a TV ad push? On free TV as well.

Before moving games out they should look to cut pointless costs. The salary of those two is where I would start.

Yeah, but it's not the average Wellington sports fan that's going to care if the team gets moved.

add one of those yellow 'post it' type notes to Friday's Dom post advertising the game, with a note to buy tickets early. Either that or a full page add on page 3
- List all sales outlets
- web address for tickets

The weather forecast for Sunday is (at this stage) for sun and 21.

Threatening the fans that don't turn up to games that they won't have as many games not to turn up to is the sort of suggestion which aggrevates no one but season members.

Fred Woodcock is right to bring up wider issues such as the economy, but Gareth Morgan should be well aware of that - he's an economist. Also, comparing ticket prices with Australia seems slightly futile. Sure it's the same league, but it's a different country with a different currency. The club should just charge a fair price relative to its local market.

The good news is that the team is doing well, several key players are locked in and the ownership isn't the shambles it was before this season started so they should be able to build on that - there are plenty of good suggestions on these forums which the owners can digest to begin with.

And while I'm at it, here's another one: Having moved overseas, I didn't renew my season membership. However, I should have been harassed mercilessly by the club during pre-season asking why I hadn't renewed and explaining why I should do so. Retaining members before the season even begins puts the club in a significantly stronger position to reach its break-even target. 1000 members retained is 1000 less you need to convince to come along every week.

Unfortunately i dont think that was something the crrent owners had control over.

Perhaps they could harras those ones now with a "finals run" membership, to get them back on board.

Play Phoenix City more often.

about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The club should take advantage of the fact that football is the most popular sport for kids to play. Surely it's not that much effort to give a sticker/poster to each kid registered to play football in the area. If not at the start of the season, hand one out at prizegiving, along with a list of the home games. Not a surefire way to increase the crowd as such, but it gets the information out there at least.
about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Since we're looking in good form to get some home finals football, why not incentivise people to get along to regular season matches to get a preference for finals football tickets?

Obviously season pass holders get first dibs, but then maybe if you've been to one of the last few home games prior to the finals series, you get a chance to get your ticket before the general public.

We all know how batsh*t crazy ticket sales went when we made the finals series, play on that fear of loss, and get people to turn up to potentially secure their spot at the finals?

Yeah, but it's not the average Wellington sports fan that's going to care if the team gets moved.

Yeah but I'm sure he's not just pulled this idea out of his arse has he? He's obviously been looking at ways of making the club viable and this is what he's come up with.

We all agree there are various ways we can up the number of people attending games but if going occasioanlly somewhere else is going to make more money for the club in ticket and merchandise sales then any bussiness man is going to actively consider it.

Don't get me wrong I used to hate the idea of these "away" games but back then in the first couple of seasons I thought by now our attendance would have been up nearer the 10000 mark. That's with a lot more folk having actually been to matches judging by the amount of replica kits around these days but they ain't coming back often enough.

Going to a match should be affordable and should not be costing $130 odd a match.  Also Kiwi's are great "armchair" sports fans but are a bit sh*te about actually turning up, it's about shifting that mentality.

I've also invested a lot of time, money, effort and emotion in this club and would be gutted if it vanished, but don't blame Morgan blame the sods that talk a good talk about the Nix but never actually show up, I'm not talking about our away supporters but those that live around Wellington, Porirua, Kapati and the Hutt.

We all need to be working on them.

unfortunately there are other variables that are fixed costs when it comes to going to footy.

parking or
train tickets there and back.

so add however much it is to park at the stadium (is it $30??) or a return ticket wich is an extra $12 bucks. so a minimum for me to go to a game is an adult ticket, booking fee plus at least $12 on the train, that is almost $50 right there.

now if it was a $20 ticket and $10 to park at the stadium that is starting to look good.
