As long as we sign Ryan Shawcross I won't lose any sleep, but as chances of that are a big fat zero, insomnia here I come.

I'm not sure a Port Vale supporter is allowed to start a Ryan Shawcross fan club, otherwise i would. Heaven knows the Valiants could use him.

When Dodd completely knocked one of Queenland's small teenagers into the advertising in season 3.  That was great.  He just kept going, not caring at all and the ref didn't pull it up either.

I wish I had recorded that game.  I could watch that over and over again.

Bugger. Oh well, his autographed jersey has a nice place in the Lonegunmen's Hall of Phoenix Shrine. Thanks for the efforts Karl. And all the very best for your future.

That's a bummer.
OK, we may not need 3 starting lineup centre backs, but it seemed like we were picking up so many yellow cards there last season that all 3 were getting games.

Hope we pick up a youth defender as cover then.

All the best, Big Fella. It was good while it lasted.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Which side is Dodd standing on in this photo?

LOL, that really does put the others in a very bad light.
Maybe he's gone to sell his football gumboots idea to china?
Good luck to him, I'm sure we will do better

Is there any youth central defenders (who are Kiwi) that we could snap up?  It'd be good for the Phoenix to develop another one in that position for the All Whites.

Was never a fan of Karls but I'm even less of a fan of slagging off departing players who gave their best - no matter what you thought of their best.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I can't say I'm sad to see Dodd go. I don't know his wages, but they must've been relatively 'up there' to say we got him from Falkirk, if my memory serves me correctly. He was fantastic season 1, player of the season for me, but then again our other options at CB were Open Door and Old, who speak for themselves.

I think we can more than comfortably find an adequate replacement.

Anyone know what Tambouras is up to? Still in Romania?

Thats unfortunate for you. Lets hope we aim higher this year. Can't wait to see how our squad ends up

am disappointed to see him go!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I think he was actually more consistant than Durante, and his wages would be way less. So i think its a very bad move

Its a great move, Dodd has two left feet. ( Nothing personal, of course) but your statement does show what a disappointment Durante was. Let hope he lifts his game this year.

Durante was a huge disappointment and dodd was by far the best centre back we had last season and probably the season before so Ricki nad Tony P had better pull their fingers out and find a suitable replacement for him because to be honest there aint to many great centre backs in the A-league at presenti

As Ross Aloisi said - the best centre back in the A-league after Sasa Ognenovski left was Karl Dodd. Bye bye Karl........

I was his biggest critic, but I wish him well.
The decision not re sign him, shows me that Riki is smarter than I thought.
He was NEVER good enough for us.

Who let the Dodd out (of the Phoenix) ?

Sad to see him go, it may leave us short during inevitable card bans and injuries.

Ross Aloisi has said a lot of things. How about Craig Moore? Rodrigo Vargas? Hell, even Kevin Muscat...

Nothing against Dodd, but saying that he was the best Centreback in the league after Og left is just silly.

Hope we get a decent replacement.

gutted. Brown, Siggie and McKain have to have immense injury free seasons. Not sold on Durante- he had some bad games for us, and was missing from some of our better efforts, but has a chance to prove me wrong. His distribution was also suspect at times, though he wasn't the only one.

Having that competition and depth at the back meant we were still fairly solid despite injuries and suspensions.

I really hope they aren't considering McKain at centreback after the impact he made in the midfield.

Dodd- what a great character and a great servant of the 'nix in it's short history. Hope he gets a decent farewell and is going on to somewhere good.

a reasonable collection on names however none of them getting any younger and they all play for clubs other than us

True, but you have to do your homework. You don't take players who are already rejected from other A league teams unless you can see some advantage.

dodd was our best CB in season one....he will be missed if we don't sign someone at least with the same or better experiance/ability. Remember 27 game this year....we will need depth right accross the park. i agree with the comment about McCain...sure hope he does not get shunted back and forth between midfield and CB.
Dodd was a bit of a character...I wish him well were ever he goes.

"I've spoken to a few other clubs as well, but I'm just making sure I make the right decision this time," Dodd said. "I want to be in an environment that is competitive and everyone wants to win. I just think they [Phoenix] are in an early phase as a club and just getting set up and still have players getting established.

"I suppose that took a lot out of me not having that competitive will to win I'm a competitive person by nature."

Very disappointing after the club made a point of allowing him to move on with dignity.

"Right at this moment we don't have another midfielder in the middle of the park to replace Adam [Griffiths] and we haven't really seen too much around at this stage, so that being the case, we might push Ljubo [Milicevic] further forward and have another person at the back," Jets coach Gary van Egmond said.

That person could be Dodd.

"He [Dodd] is a winner, he's a decent size and a good communicator who can organise well, so I think the balance of the central pair, who ever we get, has got to be a person who can do that," van Egmond said.

Is it April One already?
