New franchise? The "Auckland Skyviewers" as a team name? easy to advertise, gets Sky bonus exposure and worth them investing in!

That's world class, fancy scoring from that angle lol. Let's ditch the A League, Oceania is the future.

Christ, I hate all of this.  And I'm a newbie, god knows how all you long suffering Nix fans cope.  I feel emotionally invested (as everyone else is on here), i'd be gutted if i didn't have a team here to support that played on a bigger stage.

The save the Nix campaign was so draining that I don't have the energy to care about this shiz anymore.  I watch it praying for good news but cbf with worrying about the negative.

In which way?

I'm sure an Island based team with the best of the Islands plus a few decent imports (can see French players wanting to relax in New Caledonia / Tahiti) would be able to hold its own and compete.

Would also help the Island nations grown in much the same way as the Kingz/Knights/Nix have helped us.

"Morrison has flagged a significant expansion of their academy program as well as a return to the Hutt Recreation Ground, as revealed by the Herald late last year."

"That Hutt experiment was great," Morrison said. "There's no question we will revisit that if we can see this way forward, because it's a great little ground, works really well, you have the right numbers in there and it is about the fan experience.

love it, Morrison confident we are here to stay and firing a warning shot across Westpac's bow. Hutt Rec was brilliant and if the club invested in additional stands around the pitch it will be brilliant.

Hutt Rec should be backed by Rugby and League too. A smaller stadium, probably be cheaper if the Hutt were redeveloped so some extent.

Perhaps a 12k stadium with terraces at each end for 4k each and  a stand for 4k. The open side where the artificial practice pitch is, is where the TV cameras could go. Albeit with a bit of sun strike as it sets.

We had 9k at each of the three games there I believe and although our voices were lost to the heavans, it was an awesome atmosphere. close to trains, buses and parking was exceelent and a lot cheaper than at Westpac. Food vendors were offering a wider range of food and cheaper than Westpac. Pub across the road (The Belle Vue) had excellent food and beaverage. In fact, the experience was everything great that Westpac is not.

Can we now finally put the misguided view to bed that the club's owners don't have an interest in our long-term future?

This is once again from the horse's mouth, not some trumped up bullshark.

The only thing I can really fault Morrison and the other owners for is that they perhaps don't do enough of calling the bullshark out when it happens.

Calling out bullshark about the Nix would be a full-time job.

I eagerly look forward to the Fever busting out a "tadpole in a 40 gallon drum" related chant in the near future

Perhaps "Stuff" got their source from this site and ran with one of our threads. Amazing that, yet they won't publish our "responses" unless it is pro rugby which is nothing to do with the Nix.

There is a big difference in quitting Westpac (ie not playing there at all) as Stuff headline implied, and playing some games at Hutt Wreck as what is basically said in the article.

Permalink Permalink

Thing is, Westpac Stadium trust is full of arrogant people whom have a pay it or leave it attitude and they need to wake up and smell the roses. After the first game of this season and only a couple of kiosks opening, the chairman said he would address all the issues. Sadly, he lied. Despite there being numerous complaints about the queues, the prices of alcohol and food and parking, the only issue addressed was openning a few more kiosks. The guy was NOT listening or he was being pig ignorant.

The thing about articles like these is that it seems like Morison said these things as a threat but in reality he was probably asked about going back to the Hutt Rec.

Sure but Hutt Wreck only held 7,000 ish (though not sure if that can be increased. So at the start of the season you're probably thinking the first game of the season, kids go free game, the last couple of the season, and any playoff game, would be above that capacity.

was it not closer to 10k? - stats for the games say there 9232 for the first game played there

Finals only, i reckon. a 12k stadium for ordinary season would be awesome. That said, a 12k stadium in use for the entireity of the season, rather than just jan/feb would have croud issues on wet days.

Quite right. I had the game where it was 7800 in my mind (think that was the one where it flooded). Think the first game was pretty much sold out.

The great flood where the fundraiser before the main game got called off and we were all soaked to the skin and went back to the Belle to dry out. very fond memories.

so no games at Westpac

I would rather accept a small stadium that is almost full at most games, and leaves some fans out "in the cold" during sold-out finals, than a massive stadium like the Westpac that looks almost empty at most games and probably costs a bit of coin per game.
