Woburn station under 1km so not alot different to the concourse walk, buses closer at Queensgate.

Petone would be better but those bridges were burnt by the idiots behind it.

How easy is it to get to the Hutt Rec from the CBD without a car?

Dead easy, catch a train to Woburn and walk for 5 mins or get off at Waterloo - the next station along and catch a bus. Personally i recommend the Woburn option because you walk in a dead straight line and trip over the ground on your journey and you end up out front of the Belle Vue

Hut Rec isn't going to be the easy fix some seem think it may be. It's used for some things that have been held there for a number of years. From what i hear some of them arnt prepared to be just shoved aside the accommodate the Nix.

was it not closer to 10k? - stats for the games say there 9232 for the first game played there

Quite right. I had the game where it was 7800 in my mind (think that was the one where it flooded). Think the first game was pretty much sold out.

so no games at Westpac

I've re-read his comments again. The plural of 'stadium' infers to me that was a comment about the A-league as a whole. Though hard to be completely sure without the context of the interview. So I think that comment is quite different to the comment about Hutt Wreck as an alernative. Nix have been pretty open about wanting to take games there when Westpac is unavailable for long periods of time. It was investigated for these two home/away games but it needs work on the lights and facilities so isn't (financially) viable in it's current state. So their ability to take games there is dependent on HCC upgrading it.

So my reading of it is that in an interview that covered a number of topics, differenet aspects of the stadium seems to be muddle into one.

But it would not be just the Nix would it? League & Union would want a piece of this.

I have to say that I find it quite bizarre that out of all the things covered in that interview, people are choosing to focus on this.

people focus on what they see or are told, stuff write a click bait headline, its gets discussed and shared on facebook with the same narrative, within a few minutes the context of the interview is lost.

Or Brisbane at Suncorp?

I think he's made a general statement about stadia which obviously sharply applies to the Nix, as well as some others. Would the Nix be happier playing games in a 10K - 15K capacity stadium, of course they would. They'd be mad not to. Wanting to and actually being able to are two different things. There isn't a smaller stadium available, and there's unlikely to be unless various groups come to the party, so it's a bit of a non-story for me. As far as the stadium thing goes, all he's done is state the obvious.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

No worse than the hassle some people have to get to the stadium at the moment. No matter where they play someone is bound to be PO.Me i will just be thankful we still have a team after Robs sterling efforts

I agree, I got very turned on by the talk of a second kiwi team in the near future in Akl.

It was just a throwaway comment really from Morrison, in an interview with a Canberra? newspaper. Perhaps just a reminder to an Australian audience after all the recent expansion bids etc, that the largest popn base/commercial market in Australasia without an A League team is across the ditch. Get the locals at least thinking, that rather than removing a team from NZ, they should be adding one. Clever comment from Morrison.

Certainly though good to hear that Welnix would be supportive of a 2nd team in NZ, but seriously doubt they will be looking to bankroll it.

The ground thing is something we can actively embark on, whereas the rest is just ongoing waffle which is out of our hands

Despite living in Ngaio I would support a move to Hutt Wreck if that meant a) lower overall costs for the club b) improvements are made to the new ground so that c) we can have a stadium which is fit for purpose, sold out most weeks and which provides a great atmosphere and experience

So is it possible to move to any park since they would be building infrastructure with it? Its been a while since I've been to the Hutt Rec, but there's not much there by way of facilites is there, toilets and an old grandstand?

To be fair the only people to blame were those behind the proposal who failed to get any of the key people and groups needed to support the concept onside.

can’t see the Hutt Rec being anything more than a few game block filler given the amount of work needed to make it half acceptable (despite me talking up Morrison’s intentions)

Yeah and other than the size of the ground I'm not sure it's actually preferable to Westpac.  It's harder to get too (for Wgtonians) and undoubtedly going to have worse F&B options, a lot of it is uncovered etc etc

The food and beverage options at Hutt rec were awseome, given they were all food trucks. That is an awesome model.

Better F&B than the stadium by a long stretch not sure where you got that idea from.As for access no worse than some people have in getting to Westpac what a shame if a few people have to go through similar hassles other fans face every season.

As for  a pub venue for the fans the Rec wins hands down

As a very rough estimate, I'd say that it's easier to get to WestPac for about two thirds of the Phoenix catchment population, and easier to get to Hutt Rec for about one third.
