Ian Ferguson.... Steve McLaren.... what is it with the Perth connection / obsession thing? Neither would get me excited about our prospects.
Does anyone remember how Magilton could not get any decent performance coaching (briefly) Melbourne Victory. Sometimes a half-decent but nonetheless ageing coach is just not the thing. I agree that Greenie is simply warming the seat for someone else (and saving the owners some money in the process), but at least he is respected by the team. A real decent bloke. My hope is for someone who is not here just for a quick gig before looking for a better deal elsewhere, which is why I am not that keen to consider any big names.
While there are lots of excellent and relatively inexpensive coaches in South America (Chile especially - Marcello Bielsa, anyone? Half price of a European coach, and at least he got his national team to the WC finals), the transition to that style of play would probably be beyond our current roster's capability. Someone like that would be better suited to work with our youth teams to develop the much vaunted possession skills, than to impart on-field tactics.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
