The dominant factor here (similar to the player issue), is - "how much will they pay?".

The standard of coach/manager will be governed by this,primarily...imo

Former coach of Mexico and we don't want him because he is overqualified? Are we going to turn down the next gun player who wants to come here next? Or maybe the next CEO or the best qualified physio?

Auckland will rise once more

Depends heavily on whether we can afford to pay the pesos they want

it won't be a factor with every applicant.

Correct Feverish but it's a safe assumption to say that higher profile does equal higher peso's

Agree. Check my post about Tuchel. You have to find a talent = cheaper and give it some time.

Are we going to turn down the next gun player who wants to come here next?

Well, Danny Hay reckons we should have turned down Carlos.

I have only one opinion on this topic: Not Wynton Rufer

No, No, no. The stupidest man in NZ football. I don't speak from personal experience but two family members do.

Anyone but.

No offence to Calcott but if the new gaffer doesn't hire Greenie as his assistant, he really should be the TW coach. We have to keep him involved with the club at all costs.

How serious is this Hugo chap and this story? Lets assume the name is correct for a moment and this is the guy.

He seems to have a decent pedigree so why choose here? Its not going to be a big paying job and I would assume with his name he could get a job somewhere else paying more (some people look to be star struck in their posts already). Perhaps he is using the media to inflate his price in negotiations elsewhere?

I'll wait to get something a little more concrete before getting giddy over it. I can obviously be wrong as well but with jobs like this, the rumour mill will be in overdrive.

Not really starstruck Jeff. Just excited that this calibre of ex player is reportedly showing an interest. Even the fact it has been reported through ESPN makes it kind of interesting in  itself!.
Of course I am aware he could get a job elsewhere, but then again who would have thought that Del Piero would end up playing in the A League? Ocasionally, just ocasionally good shit does happen
Obviously it is a million miles from anything concrete, but it  is more fun to speculate, and after all thats all anyone is is doing, over a name such as this rather than some bloke coaching Northern League Second Division, a coach that has had some success NZ Womans junior teams or some other Spanish bloke who can not rest the ASBP title away from Waitakere.

Yeah fair point. I guess I'm not one to go flighting kites about big names then watch the fallout when it proves to be just a rumour. You do make a fair point on ADP though so that does kinda slam my point. I just prefer to look at the obvious rather than that 'most unlikely' candidates. I still question whether this is him excited or its just a media beat up etc.

When you look at the 3 names you have implied, Lee Norfolk does look enticing, even for the comedy lols.

If I think about applicants from AU and NZ, Trani really is the leader (without knowing if any others have gone all in) so I would be surprised if its not him with Greenie as an assistant. I think he would need a 2nd assistant just to solidify the bench.

I do tend to agree about Trani. I would prefer to give him a shot rather than wheeling in an A League retread, ie Ferguson, Miron or Merrick, but hopefully the search will unearth some different names to at least consider.

I probably would not have a problem with Miron if all he did was just coach. He does actually do some good things on occasions (which is hardly grounds to justify giving him the job) but that gets lost in the stuff he says.

I actually don't have a problem with Merrick but I doubt he will put his name in. I might have missed the goss from others as to the knock on Merrick so I probably well uninformed on that. Ferguson - no... just no.

Who knows what pops up. I have heard in Ramons favour that his tactical analysis and scouting is high class.

I just hope we do not resort to selecting a NZ or Aus coach to be politically correct. We need the BEST coach we can get (and afford) regardless of where they come from.

They can be used to bring coaching skills to nz coaches (as the name implies they should be able to) and more importantly develop kiwi football skills. We have seen the benefits of good coaching (and football style that suits) our up and coming players like Kosta, Rojas - so we know we have the talent starting to come through it just needs the best coach to bring it out...not necessarily the best nz/Aus coach.

Would a Trani/Greenie combo be enough of a paradigm shift?....not in my opinion.

I shall repeat, HALF of those quotes are recycled from last week.

''This role has given me the idea that a head coach is a way I would like to go,'' Greenacre said.

''If it's not now, it's definitely in the future. Before, I was like 'maybe I'm a good No 2, and I can let someone else take the pressure'.

This was in last weeks news when he said he had declined applying.

Hopefully Greenacre's number 2 to the new guy - but he's not ready for the top job yet.

Will be interesting, some coaches like to bring in their own assistant. If we were to get Hugo Sanchez I reckon he'd want to bring his own assistant. I'm sure Greenie will stay at the club to some extent either way though.

Not sure telling kids how to run around Newtown park is a great way to develop as a coach. He needs to be involved in running a team, either as assistant for the new gaffer or TW coach.

I'd expect there's very few coaches about whom you wouldn't. Particularly at this level.
