Ernie Merrick's....got a lot of fans to win over and never gunna be a kiwi? Though I guess it's the Andre Lemanis theory- bring in a guy the best players will come and play for and who can coach now and you'll get wins....

You mean the Andrej Lemanis who coached the Breakers for eight years and was a virtual unknown with no head coaching experience who did nothing with the Breakers for the first few years (and on at least two occasions was very nearly sacked) before building a competitive squad utilising primarily Kiwi talent supplemented by experienced Aussie's and one or two key position imports?... no, that must be another one.

So it sounds like Adelaide have gone for Josep Gombau, an unknown 36 year old Spaniard currently coaching club football in Hong Kong.

Of course, Adelaide seem determined to turn their coach search into an exercise in self-destruction so hard to read too much into it.

It does leave some names who were linked with that job still in the frame for the Nix however (Merrick, Stubbins etc).

Hypothetically, suppose Welnix decided Phil Moss was the person they wanted and he had applied but was unable to commit for a couple of weeks (because of the uncertainty over Graham Arnold), should Welnix hold out for 1-2 weeks or go with their second choice?
