ex-Nix: Where/what are they now?

An oversimplification Doloros - yes the working conditions are hard and the pay terrible (by our standards) - but they are still better than what they have at home.

These workers are not leaving NZ, they are leaving Myanmar, Bangladesh etc where there is little hope. At least there, they earn enough to send their kids to school, maybe buy a house etc and provide their families with a chance for a better life.

And not all host families are terrible.

Fact remains: Dubai (like Saudi Arabia and other oil-despotisms) has an excellent lifestyle for the local sheikhs and for expats who come in on big money contracts, and it's all funded by the hyper-exploited labor of the desperate. But all this is off-topic.

This seems like a somewhat similar argument to apartheid in South Africa i.e. best standard of living in Africa though.

On the reports we get in the western media, the kafala system seems rife with abuse. Seems to be a large proportion of those indentured people being over-worked, under-paid, abused, working in life threatening conditions, exploited and beaten.

While some might be flourishing in this system, the volume of negative reports brings in to question the legitimacy and running of the scheme.

I get that it's more nuanced than most thunk, but surely you agree it is overly repressive of fundamental human rights?

Edit: Yes, off topic. I'll pull my head in.

Always one kick away from a red card but his passion ans desire to never give up were awesome. So too were his rare but spectacular goals.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I'm just shocked at the brazenness of billionaire tyrants putting their employees to work in their vanity political campaigns. That's some Simpsons-style stuff.

Oh wait, we had our own version of that with G. Morgan/TOP, never mind.

He wasn't starting his own party though, just an exceedingly rich guy who joined an existing one. Can't stand the guy as a politician but his motivations weren't quite as self-serving as the other 3. Anyway, Clive Palmer's a douche and Rees seems to have been taken in. Unfortunate, but professional footballers aren't generally renowned for their smarts. Just glad that the shark show that is Aussie politics isn't happening here just yet.

Can’t help but wonder if Ernie will give him a go - after all, he turned him into a Johnny Warren medalist last time.

Roly Bonevacia in the provisional Curacao squad for the Gold Cup. Think final squads for the tournament are announced next week with the competition kicking off June 15th.

Feel bad that I never really rated him durig his time here - I've defintely been proven wrong on that front. Happy to see him doing well and will now proceed to eat some humble pie.

I'm sure if I played in the A league I would be prone to increasing the stats for those who have interceptions

The fact opposition players in the Scottish premiership pass to him should not illustrate his quality

At best an average a league player and quality wise below Mandi and the chap the season before

Curaçao won the tourney beating Vietnam on pens in final. Finished 1-1 end NT.

Roly B subbed after 72 mins.

Curaçao now head off to play in Gold Cup. El Salvador, Honduras & Jamaica in their pool. So a later match up against Boyd & USMT unlikely

Indian football news websites are now claiming that Dario Vidosic will sign for ATK with Krishna and Williams in the ISL. Kinda hope they get none of them, annoying spamming ATK fans all over the socials.

Just remind them of this.

India by far the most shark football nation in the world per capita.

Curacao 3 India 1

Curacao 160,000 humans, plus a few expats in Holland etc

India 1.4 Billion odd plus a few million expats

That's embarrassing, even if 1 Billion are too busy trying to eat to worry about luxuries like playing sport - still leaves a few million to pick a football team out of.

It's also interesting, especially when you consider the large Indian population in the UK. I know that other sports like cricket are more of a drawcard, but off the top of my head, the only English player with Indian heritage I can think of is Danny Batth - and he can't even make the switch to play for them.

India are shockingly bad at Sport that isn't Cricket, Hockey (and even they aren't as good as they used to be) or Kabaddi (and they are basically the only ones that play that). The country has 28 medals at the Olympics - thats an all time record not just the last games!

I remember a story about an Indian athlete who won Olympic gold for air rifles in 2008 - his mother was on the record saying he was now the most eligible bachelor in all of India!

They, and Pakistan, did better at hockey when it was mainly played on grass. It's been mainly played on turf for some time and shows a disparity in the wealth between nations.
