This news will definitely make it into the next podcast! The first goal was pure class!

However, Wikipedia tells me the Toto Cup isn't all that flash:

[quote] The Toto Cup is the third important competition in Israeli football after the Israeli Premier League and the Israeli State Cup and is considered as a negligible cup, and therefore the Israeli football teams are not investing in many of its games and uses the game to test the foreign players and to give a chance to the bench players and the youth players. However, the Israeli Sports Betting Council pays 1.25 million NIS for the winner, while the runner-up receive 950,000 NIS.[1]

Still, a hatty is a hatty, especially against another premier league opposition!

I would have liked to see him here for at least another season - real shame it wasn't to be.

A-Rod has signed for Oxford United in League One:

https://www.oufc.co.uk/news/2019/june/alex-rodriguez-gorrin/

Made his competitive debut in the first game of the season  a couple of weeks ago in a 1-1 draw away to Sunderland.

https://www.oufc.co.uk/matches/fixtures/first-team/201920/august/sunderland-vs-oxford-united-on-03-aug-19/

A busy schedule saw him start all four games in the space of two weeks - three league games and a League Cup win over Peterborough:

https://us.soccerway.com/players/alejandro-rodriguez-gorrin/367501/

A win, a draw and a loss in the league.

A yellow card for him in each of the league games already....te..he...he

A-Rod is building quite a useful career over in Britain....

Former Nix winger Gao Leilei from China (2008) has gone on to an interesting career with lots of ups and downs.

Never really settled at the Nix but seems to have matured and become a late bloomer.

Has settled as a veteran (now in his late 30's) in Spain's third tier (Segunda B) in recent years after five years away from football !!!:

From the Nix to Finland and China, then the USA, followed by:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gao_Leilei

Return to China

Gao returned to Beijing again and joined Beijing Baxy in July 2010. He scored his first goal on the first appearance, in a 3-0 home win against Anhui Jiufang. Gao announced his retirement from professional football due to problems with injuries on 6 March 2011.[8]

Spain

Gao made his return to football in January 2016, signing a half-year contract with Segunda División B side Cornellà.[9] On March 19, 2016, he made his debut for Cornellà in a 2–0 home victory against Espanyol B.[10] He extended his contract with Cornellà for one year in the summer of 2016. In August 2017, he extended contract against for another year.[11]On 9 January 2019, Gao joined FC Jumilla.[12]

Won the Catalan Cup with Cornella in 2018 (cup comp for teams from Catalonia)

Now 39, he played for Jumilla in Segunda B as recently as April this year.

Amazing. Gao was truly horrible for the Nix - we should know, as we've had a few. I still remember a home game v Sydney IIRC where he came on at about the 60 minute mark. He was absolute pants - gave almost every ball away, let several guys run past him, teammates were giving him a bollocking too. He must have been playing injured, he was so bad that day.

Whereas Leilei Gao was actually quite exciting to watch when he played for the Knights, which was why Ricki brought him down to Welly I guess.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Well this is rather freaky, Leilei Gao gets mentioned on here and a couple days later there is a news article about him.

SD Ponferradina in Spain sign a sponsorship deal with a Chinese company which includes a 6 month contract for Leilei Gao to play for them for free.

SD Ponferradina are a Segunda Division side too (second tier) so that's a really decent level and the highest he's ever played at, aged 39.

Rumours that Dylan Fox is gonna sign with CCM, I guess that harms the chances of Gianni Stensness picking up a deal with them.

Stensness is more a defensive midfielder - that's where he played with us and the u20s.

Played a half at RB and a half at CB for CCM in a trial for them. They were obviously looking at him as a defender.

Hadn't he only just gone to Korea??

Yes, but he had that bung knee so perhaps they agreed to separate. If he had stayed at the Nix he would have been seriously in the mix (that's if Talay wanted him).

Something I just noticed, Fox was signed by his Korean club Anyang to replace former ACFC defender Kim Dae-Wook

Yeah I'm stoked for Fox,  infectious guy who remains involved with the Nix today. Happy to see him further his career

Stensness named in CCM's FFA Cup squad for tomorrow night's clash with the Roar. Trialists are unable to play in the Cup, so he probably has signed a scholarship deal with them.

Meanwhile, there are loads of articles saying that Anthony Golec will be signing for a team in Indonesia

In the FFA Cup game vs Adelaide, Italiano has gotten himself sent off after 10 minutes, flapping at Mileusnic. Just when I was thinking he'd be taking the #1 spot off Moss, he goes and does something like this...

Should've done it in the box - give away the penalty but with the new rules I think there's no more red card.

I'd rather be 1-0 down with 80 to go and a full squad than 0-0 with 10 v 11 for 80 minutes.

What was the final score?

Not a good night for Newcastle goalkeepers.

Not convinced on the red, Adeliade player was going away from  goal so not sure its DOGSO. Dumb challenge though.

Na would have still been a red in the box, got to make a genuine attempt for the ball. Here he just took out the player.
