I don't feel aggrieved by this in the slightest. Can completely understand why it's an Australia-only competition.
I don't care about missing out - however I've always been annoyed by our circumstance.
Slightly going off topic but..
In Fifa's eyes, every club has to be eligible for the Club World Cup - but currently we are one of the only sides who can't make it there regardless of how well we do on the pitch.
We have to have a pathway to that competition, so it needs to be decided how we can get there - surely we have to be eligible for either the Oceania Champions league or the Asian Champions league.
I know its not easy -but we need a decision from Fifa

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Hardly a club World Cup if not every club in the workd is eligible is it?

not sure the nix's plight is ever going to come across the Fifa need to fix desk.....surely it's an Asian Confed of Oceanian problem....Either we are eligible via the a-league and asian Confed due to the league we compete in, or we fit into the Oceania champs due to the location of the club/team.

Do you have a sauce for this statwmenr
Hardly a club World Cup if not every club in the world is eligible is it?
only if you've already AGREED not to enter , it as a precursor to joining the A league....

I understand the cost aspects of some state league Aussie team coming here, but in those cases, why couldn't we just go and play them over there? The more we're excluded from such things, the more they might think we're not needed. IMO.

Just feel that as that comp grows it will benefit the Australian teams and give them a competitive advantage over the 'Nix.

this is what concerns me, everyone else in our comp gets the chance to earn more money - welnix should be demanding this chance - show off their brand more, blah blah, sure it means more games for the players - but they are barely playing 6 months at the moment so burnout can't be an issue. This has Nix being lefty in the duince corner because teacher forgot about us.

I don't get the angst - FFA is the F(ederation) charged with developing and growing F(ootball) in A('straya). They have no obligation to develop the Phoenix - or NZF who were only given a spot in the A-league to appease OFC to acquiesce to their move into Asia (ie: show OFC/FIFA that there was still a professional pathway from Oceania). They have done this - that is where their responsibility to developing WPX/NZF/OFC ends. If we want to play in their NYL then that's ok too - but they aren't going to pay for it - any more than we aren't going to pay to develop Aussie youngsters (in any sport).
Ok - it isn't "fair" that their teams will get more games/revenue/media... blah, blah... sometimes life isn't - and sport even less so.
If we don't like it then either we take our toys and come home (ie: leave the A-league) or, NZF join AFC with a hope that it would mitigate many of the roadblocks that we currently face around WPX playing in another confederations competition. The likelihood of that happening was (at last count) *1.07% - a mere one percent greater than the chance of a snowball surviving in hell for more than ten seconds.
Not in the least bit surprised.
*Statistically - 43.7% of most statistics are completely made up.
whilst I agree with this ^ it doesn't mean we (the club) shouldn't be pushing for inclusion. Sitting back and accepting this decision is suicide for the club long term. Or at least a real downer on our future. It maintains our status as aa second class football team being allowed to play in a comp - albeit begrudgingly.

Agreed - tho the reality is, under the existing structure, that's exactly what we are.
The best thing we can do in the short-med term to address/highlight some of these "issues" to the football and general sporting public on both sides of the creek is to win the league.
Ernie - make it so!
That doesn't mean we should be happy to be treated like a 2nd class club. So surely therefore you can understand the angst?

While we're at it, what about the Chatham Cup....
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
always easy to demand better treatment win you're holding the trophy - Ernie come on son you know it's our turn.

FFA has just confirmed the comp and says all 10 a league sides will be in it....
Yes RT @kiwiscotsman: @WgtnPhoenixFC are the Phoenix involved?

Very, very surprising. Huge. Great news!
Now for the NYL team :)
a.haak

This is a significant result for us, if we weren't included it does mark us out as second class citizens and I'm really glad we'll be involved in cup football. A significant behind the scenes win, well done Welnix and management
Normo's coming home
cant believe this! so unexpected, you little beauty

This is going to be awesome. I guess they have followed the FA's lead on this in a way - Welsh teams competing in the English football leagues being eligable to compete for the FA cup. Good decision. Look forward to some lowly ranked state team upsets.
Fuck this stupid game
fark yea! i hope its a better cup than the toilet seat
