We'd only have to win 3, maybe 4 games against A league opposition
I feel sorry for you.

so glad that we have been included in this.......however we managed to get this opportunity is almost irrelevant except whoever was responsible deserves a medal. Now it's up to the team and us as fans to make it work for the club and the FFA.

This is going to be awesome. I guess they have followed the FA's lead on this in a way - Welsh teams competing in the English football leagues being eligable to compete for the FA cup. Good decision. Look forward to some lowly ranked state team upsets.

Hardly, what about  Scottish football.

This is great news, so now we're in...Woohoo!

It also again makes commercial sense for the same reason that the Nix in NZ being a part of the A-League makes sense.

It will be a new competition in its own right, a new product for the FFA to market, covering the total Australian and NZ market to attract new potential investors/advertisers/ sponsors.

More potential income for the FFA and hopefully owners and their clubs in future re-negotiations.

There's also the novelty, "what if" factor, when underdog lower league teams take on the elite teams that might appeal to more viewers..."what if a / our  local state league team beats the A-League heavy hitters? "

Using the Welsh clubs in the EPL and FA Cup as precedents for justifying our inclusion in this FFA Cup is ok to a point, but its been pointed out in past threads that the Welsh teams are in the same confederation and of course NZ is not. Interesting about the French Polynesian teams though.

Will this give the Nix a pathway to the Club World Cup then when we win? Participation in Asia Confederation playoffs would be the next hurdle I guess.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

More chance of winning this than the A League.

Should be exciting. Can't wait to have our own proper cup ties.

Pretty happy about this - would be awesome to see Sommet or a free to air channel picking up the rights for it!

Bidding war!

Would be great to see a couple of nix games on free to air and this could be a quality chance

Knowing welnix, they'll use it as an excuse to take more away.

Fantastic, unexpected news - at what stage do A-League sides enter the comp.?

When will the Cup games be played?

Could be some pretty dodgy pitches and heat if playing Dingo United in the back of beyond?

Hope it gets plenty of TV coverage...

Great news probably tempered with the club using it as another travelling Phoenix game.

Might as well,we keep going at this rate and there will be more home away games than actual home games in the future.

Good spotting, although its possible that was just a mistake by the journo.
On the other hand, the only confirmation I ever saw that we were in was the Nix responding to a question on Twitter.
Might try that route again.

The FFA website report on the Cup last August specifically states:

"The nine State and Territory Member Federations and 10 Hyundai A-League clubs have unanimously endorsed the proposal to stage the inaugural FFA Cup within the calendar year with a Cup Final in December 2014."

There's also an accompanying video which states it "will feature the ten A-League franchises":

This whole thing is getting confusing now. This article on FOX Sports (http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/victorian-teams-embark-on-dream-of-playing-against-aleague-clubs-in-the-ffa-cup/story-e6frf4gl-1226817990730) makes a point of not including the Phoenix.

"It is understood Victoria will have four representatives alongside two from northern NSW, eight from the rest of NSW, four from Queensland, two from Western Australia, one each from South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, as well as the nine Australian A-League clubs."

Doing the maths, that makes 32 teams. Adding the Phoenix makes the maths for a knockout tournament kinda tricky.

If FFA said we're in then Im going with that. I wouldnt trust anything Sky have to say on football, so not going with what Fox are saying at this stage. Its quite possible whoever wrote that up just forgot about us. Aussies are good at that.
