Seriously hope this change doesnt cause any issues, that last game at Eden park was a shambles for standing. Got sick of people  asking us to sit

"I paid to sit on this seat, not stand" FML

Even just a flyer on the seats we can refer them to when they moan would help

On the flyer can they also put that football games go for an extra 10 mins so they dont leave early?

The key is to get there early as a group then stick to your guns and remain standing despite protests from locals. It's what happened last year and we at least ended up with 2 rows of us standing. It was crap though. But marginally better than previous seasons.

Allegedly

Remember that father and son that lasted 37 minutes standing with us bcause they were used to sitting. They ended up moving somewhere else. no idea how to get invovled or wished to.

Someone mentioned a stand down period for WC players.

there is no official stand-down period for World Cup players (Celtic had 2 of them playing last night in their Champions League Qualifier) but most clubs give their players some extra time to recuperate.

According to Stuff

"Phoenix general manager David Dome said yesterday that 27,000 tickets were sold for the July 26 double-header in Wellington"

"But only 7000 had been sold for Tuesday's tour opener between Newcastle and Sydney at Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium and 12,000 for the clash between West Ham and the Phoenix at Auckland's Eden Park next Wednesday."

Further sales strategy seems to be based on the unreliable walk-up crowd overcoming local apathy in Auckland and Dunedin

Tickets? Tickets? We talkin’ about tickets?

I know of at least a dozen people travelling up for the game from Hamilton who haven't brought tickets yet.

I think the walk up crowd for this will be quite big and fully expect 20,000 people. Once West Ham arrive in the country as well they will get a lot of media coverage and this will help generate a buzz.

I still think $90 is a lot.

So now confirmed that Newcastle are bringing a young and under strength squad.

Makes the PPV and ticket prices look a little bit high now...

Can't see too much Dunedin interest in Newcastle reserves v Sydney FC

Of course the World Cup players were never going to be involved.

Seems like OUSA are struggling to shift 1000 $20 tickets they have down here.

Ticketek just sent me my new ticket - except that it's my old ticket, in the stand that is now meant to be closed.

Back on the phone tomorrow morning then...

Just spoke to someone at Ticketek who didn't know anything about it but will get someone else to ring back.

Getting that sinking feeling again.

Can anyone who has already been re-assigned to the new Fever Zone tell me what section that is so that I can tell Ticketek when they call back and inevitably try and put me where I don't want to be.

Wellington based fans to save the day? I thought Dunedin would be a bit of a struggle unless you offered the students free beer. Auckland, well what can one say? I was listening to the local rqdio up there when the Nix last played up there and a lot of callers were waiting to see if the showers were going to appear that were promised from the met service or if itwas going to stay sunny. Last minute decisions. Perhaps they might get their shit sorted and get 20k up there. I wonder how many from Wellington will be there.

I think this whole tour was a bold initiative by the Nix. I am hoping it will be successful. But I also keep seeing the same warning signs we have seen for the last two or three years with regards of taking the team on the road. Then again, NZ crowds are notorious for being late show up types.

World Cup players were never going to be involved but statements were being made about seeing Tim Krul in the flesh after his penalty heroics just a couple of weeks ago...

Misleading.

PPV prices were extortionate if it had been a world cup final

Statements fromdDome and reporting in our media have misled many over who we could expect to play in these games.

Any follower of english football knew that world cup players would never be coming.

Now it's going to be a beat-up of the phoenix for newcastle bringing a soft team, despite everyone knowing that from the beginning.

Hell I even saw discussion of Loic Remy in early reports when this tour was announced, he was only on friggin loan at newcastle last season and was never ever going to be associated with this tour.

Also reports that Debuchy won't be coming. No surprise given that the chances of him being a Newcastle player by the start of the season appear to be slim to none.

Remy reported for duty at QPR after he got finished in court losing his licence. I agree, anyone involved in the World Cup was always going to be a big ask. Look at the Nix players in 2010. Still, I wouldnt beat up on the Nix or Dome with this. They got two EPL clubs to actually make the trip. This is good. Next year without the World Cup, it would be brilliant.

At Westpac, there should be enough fans there to make this a bloody good time for everyone. Really looking forward to it.

Always thought that Dome horribly got the order of games wrong. Auckland if they had got the weekend game would have rocked pulling another 10,000 whilst wellington with the mid week game would have held their own.

When you see the ugly coffee mug $20 gets you from there all of a sudden $40 for PPV seems like a steal.

$70 for a Newcastle shirt seems like a good deal though if you're into that sort of thing

Yea just wanna clarify, I'm not whinging about the world cup players not coming, im one of the 27k who dont give a f*ck, I'm just whinging about the widespread reports in the media claiming debuchy, krul and even remy (!) would be coming and thus creating an expectation which was never going to be fulfilled - and it wasnt helped by dome appearing to back that up.

The phoenix dont deserve a beat-up over this whatsoever but i fear that's what we'll get from the dompost etc. Hopefully not.

I'm blimmin stoked about this whole thing, the chance to see 2 epl teams whatever the lineups may be.

As always Merrick makes the most sensible comment;

"The bottom line is with big clubs, you never actually know until they get here," Merrick said. "So we'll wait until they get here. Whether [the World Cup players] play or not, they will have a very strong side."

And now we have articles that begin with sentences like this;

"The Wellington Phoenix remain upbeat about next week's Football United Tour, despite Newcastle United now bringing a young and understrength squad to New Zealand."
