Indeed. If only I had a ban stick.

As for the whole club nickname thing, I always thought changing thread titles to "GLOLry v Tards" or whatever just made us look like idiots. Probably likely to get the ban stick pointed at me now...

what's the problem?

Upset that the origins of your nickname has nothing to do with what you think it is?

Haha it'll pass - I exclusively used "soccer" before 2007 for much the same reason (I used Football for Canadian Football and American Football for NFL). To me now, football = soccer, end of. CFL is CFL, NFL is NFL, NRL is league, S14 is rugby, and AFL is rubbish.

I notice Radio Sport still uses Soccer in it's links bar but curiously has no sport known as "Football".

'tards. Short for f**ktards. The name was applied to Victorians in general on the World Game Forum in about 2004. Exact details are lacking due to 'The Great Server Purge'. No one had bumped the particular thread in a while when old threads were deleted so it only lives on in the memories of those that new. Your Hard News should know of this origin.f**ktards was a common term of endearment at the time on TWGF. In my eternal struggle to get australian soccer fans away from ethnic bullsh*t and onto something we could all relate to, geographic hate, I came across an article suggesting Sydney as a better tourist destination them Melbourne and copied the article onto the forum with the header, "Cop this Melbourne you 'tard factory". Every none Victorian thought it was a brilliant naming of the sub-human twats from south of the Murray and the nickname stuck also giving us 'tardville, 'tardistan and the 'tard Dome. This nick naming actully predates the advent of the A-League and MVFC. It's just a happy co-incidence that when a team arrived in Melbourne that the club, their f**kwit players and their bottom feeding, knuckle dragging, completely and utterly f**ked in the head fans just so perfectly fitted the pre-ordained nickname. The f**king 'tards.

Hilly.. What was that?
Thats wrong. Except for Melbourne being full of f**ktards.

Hillbilly single handedly fixed football in Oz, took it off the efnicks and gave it to the people, and christened Melbourne with a seppo nick name he thought was roflicious. And he did all this without ever needing to leave his computer.

Quite an achievement. And how do Sydney fans repay him? By staying away in droves, the callous bastards!

From one of the many threads on this forum I've read on here.

"I sought to meet supporters of ACFC (the dominant club of the local championship) and of the Wellington Phoenix. Sadly, the encounter with ACFC supporters having gone badly, only the discussion with Phoenix fans will be published."

For those who don't know, French for LOL is MDR.
