Scumbag piece of journalism from Worthington.....fishing for a negative comment from the players to reinforce his Gareth interfering agenda.

As people have said Terry was a regular at the Nix training and that never raised a comment.

Worthington is a hack!....the sooner DoomPost gets a proper football journalist  like Piney the better.

Don't think it's a Gareth interfering agenda - more a time for Ricky to move on agenda, if the Dom Post has one.

The silly thing here is that if there is a simple explanation why didn't the club just say it.  Creates another story out of nothing.  Ricky waffles on terribly doesn't he?  What does this mean?!!

"We're doing a project, so [fellow owner] Henry Tait's here as well. So we're just looking at some revision around the club and maybe a little bit more resource and analysing things. Sort of videoing things and seeing what's important."

I have no problem with Ricki waffling on to deflect a question that he and the club don't want to answer, if they don't want all the other clubs to know what they are doing then so be it. It's not Ricki's fault that the Dom Post turned this into a story out of nothing.

Please, let's not give Gareth credit for Sanchez being fit and available.

Yeah Sanchez has been great since his return. Much better now that he's playing in the centre of the park.

Yep- open the wallet and get us two good experienced midfielders. Don't come down to training with a clipboard and undermine Ricki. Give him the job brief and the resources and let him do it.

I think perhaps the directive for youth and Kiwis has perhaps hurt our performances. Boyd shone in pre-season against Indian teams, but I'd say if Huysegems or Totori had had as many minutes as he has had we might be doing better perhaps. In previous seasons Ricki has been more cautious. I think he managed Kosta and Marco well. He got good results out of them, but played them on merit and if they didn't warrant selection they were back on the pine.

Also perhaps a more experienced number two than Greenie, a different perspective and someone who is confident enough to disagree. I'm a massive Greenie fan, but I'm not sure if how the coaching team has worked. Perhaps Greenie would have been best utilised still out in the middle! Ricki seems to work best with a good assistant coach.

Totori has warranted selection, but is looked at as primarily a bench player and Huysegems was our top goal scorer but it seems that Brockie is now always preferred to him. Consistency is good, but our most settled starting team is simply not as good as other teams.

Also the top teams in the competition seem to be stronger and meaner than us- both CCM and Adelaide have been no strangers to out muscling or smashing opposition teams. This year we've been smaller, weaker and more inexperienced. But laying out future goals midseason isn't helpful.

We've lacked playmakers. Ifill is out and Sanchez has been out, and isn't fit enough to sprint for 90 minutes. Smith isn't up to standard in this area.

In short- Gareth is either the CEO or he isn't. If he is great- work with Herbert, divine where the talent is going to come from to fit with our team. If he isn't he needs to butt out, pay his money, hire the right people for the job and let them get on with it.

As someone else said- I can't see him doing this with the Hurricanes or the media being so gleeful about it. It's hurting the club- if he's the media strategy become CEO, be a front man. If he isn't butt out, enjoy the results, ride the roller-coaster and accept professional football. The team never plans to be shite or lose. In both Brisbane and Melbourne we were close I think. A bit of magic and it would have happened. As Piney said on 442 it's only January.

As they say in cricket- the guys who use video analysis are out of form.

If you want someone to analyse the opposition like Trani used to hire him or someone like him. Don't reinvent the wheel.

also are Clemingers getting a grilling too, or are we getting what we are paying for? Hope Eden Park sells out and proves me wrong- haven't checked the billboards around the ground (they were there last year), but there's one in an odd place hidden amongst the trees on Pitt St.

@ martinb: we signed Waffles after we got back from India. And from what people said about the games before the trip, Boyd was playing better than Totori. Boyd deserves to be starting because he looks like a better player I feel.

Total football (part 333 recurring....)

"It is quite a difficult thing." A Durante, Dom Post 12/01013, prior to facing WWW. Said also, that after some intensive training sessions, the players were slowly getting better at kicking - sorry 'keeping' - the ball.

Quite.

So who would be your pen. taker out of Stein, Boyd and Fenton?

we've had a lot of whatifs this season- you get the feeling if Boyd had socred against Adelaide he might have stepped it up a notch...

Waffles, Boyd, Fenton in that order. Ifill then Brockie being my first two options.

Fenton's not bad at saving penalties... I remember filming this during our time at Tawa College in 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLcw4LUSnNA&feature=player_detailpage#t=250s, that's him in the black.

So I think that would be the order of the most trusted/clinical strikers in your view. Our goal threats being Ifill, Brockie, Stein. Feel Louis and Tyler could step up, but haven't yet.

Have heard that Ricki's demeanour has been noticeably different at training since Gareth has been turning up. Previously did a lot of barking orders from the sideline, and now, by pure co-incidence, does a lot more running around. Look busy Ricki, the boss is coming!

Gareth Morgan - Football, Wellington Phoenix

Tue, 15 Jan 2013 8:07a.m.
Wellington Phoenix co-owner Gareth Morgan is on the show to give us his take on the season.
http://www.radiolivesport.co.nz/Audio/Gareth-Morgan---Football-Wellington-Phoenix/tabid/252/articleID/13252/Default.aspx

No doubt RH is still in deep with the owners after that then. Find it amazing Gareth can confirm Herbert for another 2 years as coach (think thats how it works out) as there will be no director of football role - not required now.
RH has no track record with playing any other football style than direct football.

Really?

I must have dreamed the early seasons where the Phoenix' style of football was commended by many Australian commentators, before the Postecoglu effect came about and it became cool to diss any team that doesn't make 1000 passes a match even if they don't win.

I'm not saying our football has been sexy this season but to state Ricki can't coach sexy football simply isn't factual.

I assume you'r talking about season 1 where we played some decent stuff - but looked light weight, conceded poor goals and finished last...

Stein. Takjing a pen needs mental toughness and I don't think the younger guys have it yet. Also, pre-game on Sunday, the Nix were having a shooting drill to finish their warm up and Stein was the only one putting the ball in the net each time. I saw one of Brockie's go in.
