How the f**k does anything Crowe did match to Rufer? Proves how much of a joke these awards are.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah, was 1991 the year Crowe got his 299 when he played a pre meditated shot and got out against Sri Lanka going for 300? Gutted.

All Whites to win team of the year since the All Blacks didn't beat the record of consecutive test wins :D ! (First and last time I will cheer for Aussie over NZ)

I personally think, that the nominations for team of the year will be All Blacks, Silveer ferns and the rowers, remember Telfer has a lot of pulling power, and their is no way the silver ferns wont be nominated.

shame the 3 comments are from moronic netball fans (what are they reading a football opinion piece anyway?). Basketball is a million times better than netball. If netball win, I'll be spewing.

Can't see too many overwhelming favourites this year. Team of the year looks to be the most competitive. Hopefully the All Whites win. Will be spewing if another rowing duo win again.

Sportsman of the year normally goes to someone in an individual sport but doesn't look like too many standouts this year.

]the Black Ferns beat the All Blacks for team of the year at the NZ rugby awards tonight. and the top player wasn't the best super 14 or itm cup player.

Player of the Year: Kieran Read
Super 14 Player of the Year: Alby Mathewson
ITM Cup Player of the Year: Robbie Fruean

All Whites have this in the bag! especially if the NZRU don't even pick the All Blacks. Kiwis could be close.

Jacko Gill has to be junior sportsman of the year.
Julian Dean and Ryan Nelsen are New Zealand's top two sportsmen IMO.Luis Garcia2010-12-16 23:24:03

Black Ferns won their world cup for the 4th of 5th straight time, and at the ned of the day you can only beat the opposition that is put in front of you. theprof2010-12-17 10:38:04

While I dont necessarily agree you leave the Black Ferns out I am slightly confused that the Tall Blacks didn't make it.

A bit off topic, in the sports pullout from Dom post. here are the journo's sportsman of the year -

Jonathan Millmow - Ryan Nelsen
Mark Geenty - Ryan Nelsen
Sam Worthington - Ryan Nelsen
Hamish Bidwell - Jeremy Smith
Richard Ives - Ryan Nelsen

Hamish Bidwell's choice seems a bit out of leftfield for me.

Who the fuck is Jeremy Smith?

Three for me, and two for them.

seems Jeremy Smith took his team to an NRL title.

Bidwell's whole column was a bit left field.

Top team - Queensland rugby league.

I'm sure they were reflecting on the NZ sports year but anyway.

Has to be the all whites, despite a big push from the media to give it to the silverferns.

It really depends on how smart the panel is, if its done on exceeding expectations it's got to be the All Whites, but they could take in to account that we didn't get out of the group stage

I think it comes down to values rather than intelligence.

If the panel values meaningful achievement in a competition both in terms of depths of field and international respectability, the All Whites have no competition.

If the panel values winning tournaments, regardless of how uncompetitive and irrelevent said tournaments are - then netball or league have a decent chance.

Though I suppose intelligence would impact on what values they may hold...

Based on those values, and on history. The silver Ferns will win. They won,and in dramatic fashion.

History suggests those are the values they judge by. Happy to be told otherwise,as im not all that clued up.

I suppose I have to take the line I did with the Black Ferns and say that the netballers or league shouldn't get it either, though it is harder, still not much competition. so I'm behind the All whites

Bidwell could have used Benji for his potshot at footy. I dont even know who Smith is. Seems has hasnt gained any intelligence since college

They've announced the 8 finalists for the Peoples choice award.

Winston's goal is one
Netballers gold medal win
brendan mccullum's innings
last minute league win
hamish bond and eric murray gold medal win
adam hall gold medal at special winter olympics

can't remember the other 2

On their facebook page, the NZFSM have not put anything about the goal against slovakia. But basically mentioned every other sporting highlight. Sad thing is Netball will win this one. Too many people in this country who will never see the bigger achievement of the All Whites.

Cricket, rugby, rugby league, skiing, football, rowing, athletics and netball have been shortlisted for the 'New Zealand's Favourite Sporting Moment' which will feature in the next Halberg Awards.

The public get a chance for involvement in this category at New Zealand's premier sports awards, voting for what they consider to be the best moment of a memorable 2010.

The shortlist, selected by a panel made up of representatives from The Halberg Trust, Sparc and the media partners, is (in chronological order):

1. Brendon McCullum - 116 not out off 56 balls; Black Caps vs Australia T20, Christchurch

2. Adam Hall - recovers and wins slalom Gold; Vancouver Paralympics

3. All Whites - Winston Reid's last minute goal against Slovakia; FIFA World Cup, South Africa

4. All Blacks - Israel Dagg's last minute try to beat Springboks; Tri Nations, Soweto

5. Nikki Hamblin - late surge for 800m Silver; Delhi Commonwealth Games

6. Silver Ferns - double extra-time victory over Australia for Gold; Delhi Commonwealth Games

7. Men's Pair - Hamish Bond & Eric Murray win Gold; World Rowing Championships, Karapiro

8. Kiwis - Nathan Fien's last minute try to beat Australia and win Four Nations; Brisbane.

The winner will be announced at the gala dinner on February 10.

"We know how much New Zealander's care about their sport and now they get a chance to become involved in a meaningful way," Halberg Trust chief executive Steve Hall said.

He said the criteria was for "the most exciting, remarkable or compelling sporting moment, game or series during 2010 involving New Zealand sporting teams and individuals both at home and abroad".

Voting can be made by text, and online at skysport.co.nz, starting on January 1.

Voting closes at lunchtime on Thursday February 10.

The feature of the public voting is a prize of four tickets to attend the Westpac Halberg Awards Dinner, which includes travel and accommodation, walking the red carpet with the stars, and sitting with three-time Halberg Award winner, Valerie Adams.

On the stuff.co.nz voting, Reid has 39% of the vote, so there is hope
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
No point people complaining if netball wins it, afterall it is the "people's choice". However I'd would still be surprised if Reid doesn't win, I think most sports fans really do understand the significance of that goal and what we achieved in South Africa. And if people on this forum vote, there's little chance Reid's goal won't win.

I voted for Winston but you can vote once every day!!!  What if some idiots go on there and vote for the netballers every day. I guess we'll just have to do the same with Winston. Spread the word
