I really though it was shocking how badly prepared the sides looked after 6 months off.  Maybe another consequence of the long off season is how long it takes teams to get up to speed, match fitness etc.

Agree with Dale that the Sigmund incident with Necevski probably wasn't a foul elsewhere on the pitch, but you just can't even make a move towards the goal keeper to impede him.  Sigmund wasn't near the ball himself so even though it was pretty clear Nicevski had misread it, the keeper is probably going to get that decision 9 times out of 10.

Went a completely different way but it probably needs another hour to make it seamless and I'm over it.

Love that Fallon is now doing commentary.

He'll be yarning about how 'the boys are piling their belief on the table' to no end.

Halftime will be a nice montage of him sitting on the edge of some loch somewhere.

The perceived string of good kiwi keepers at age group level isn't too surprising. They get a lot of coverage and have a huge influence in the matches at WC level- so they either flop in a game and we lose 6-0 (and go along with expectation), or have a good day in the office and keep us in the game.

Hard News mentioned Jonny Raj. I'm guessing that would be the same one that is at Farfield University with O'Keeffe?

Yeah.  Played for TeeDubs last season and played well.

After the editing, obviously! He's got the coolest accent - and he's such a nice guy! We should have a weekly catch up with him for the poddy. I can picture it - the two of us, eating scones and drinking tea and spending a wonderful hour talking football...!

Listening to the FourFourTwo podcast and they specifically mentioned this podcast and how you/we slammed the site for not including any Phoenix players in the team of the week. Also they talk up Louis Fenton a couple of times.

Listening to the 442 poddy now, good that there are no annoying aussie accents, but again, more about how bad sydney were and sweet f.a. about the nix. (so far). ITZ FTW.

That goes without saying.  I meant 4-4-2

Also suggesting that the whole round would have to be moved, when they could probably just move the one game to a midweek spot. I know they don't want midweeks games but it'd be just one. No one goes to Heart games anyway right? ;)

Pretty sure Kevin Airs is anti Phoenix. He says he isnt on twitter but subconsciously he always gives us no hope. If theres ever a compliment, it will be followed by a  BUT.

It seems a lot of aussie journos havent actually watched us and just claim we are a dirty "physical" side and rely solely on ifill being fit.

Yeah, I think the narrative in Australia, for a lot of journos, is that the Phoenix are not good and aren't made up of quality players so any good results are more down to how poor the opposition is rather than how good the Phoenix are.

Is Kevin Airs the Scots geezer?  Best heard in written form - too many "aahh"s.

Not sure which one is which but there was clearly an anti-nix guy on the 442 and another guy that was very pro-nix and said how awesome Fenton was.

Kev is the scottish guy, Aidan is the aussie , Andy the expat brit.

I like their podcast as the three of them often have different opinions which didnt happen as much when it was just Andy & Trev.

However I feel like they dont pull eachother up enough when they disagree with eachother. Especially when Kev says something super opinianted and the other two just stay quiet

Whereas Dale will quite happily tell Smithy that he doesn't agree with him. Love it.
