what's daniel done wrong? he hasn't had a lot of time to make any huge impact, personally I'd be starting him before Leo and Ifill. Leo showed just how lazy he can be, a couple of times he could have reached a long pass if he'd made an effort, but no he gave up! Daniel at least shows some determination and effort and skill with delivering the ball to the middle of the box.

Agreed in part. With the formation above though he would effectively be a Wing back which would not suit Daniel. I have always thought Leo is better with the Ball in front of him, but agreed he can be and has been a lazy disintesesed prick and only stays in "my team" through necessity, as does Daniel, he has done little wrong, but has also done othing exceptional for the last two years when he has been given his limited chances.

I agree, I don't see anything wrong with Daniel, although I don't think Leo is lazy, I rekon the results of the games this season has completely shot their confidence, which is why Leo seems lazy.

I would try this:

                  Vukovich
North Sigmund Durante Muscat
                      Elliot
Bertos           Ward               Ifill
        Greenacre   Pavlovich

I know that it wont happen, but think these players offer us the most dynamic lineup a Nix side has seen in a while. Daniel could potentially work his way into the team too.

The Pav/ Bertos / Greeny combination had great chemistry against the likes of adelaide, and Ward also looked to combine well with greeny and released bertos a bit too so that he could play his game.

The potential Ward/Elliot combo could be crazy good. Both have good distribution and do pass and move.

Just that Elliot may not offer too much on defense. But If we are constantly attacking, then we wont need too much hopefully!

A couple of you have suggested Bertos for left back.

I'm intrigued by this. When did he last play that position?

True, but we have great a central midfielder with the ball at his feet in nick ward. but he cant seem to get any game time. Anyone know what Musa is like? I know everyone hates stuff at the moment (or all the time!) but they said he was going to be an up and coming star after the Waikato game.

I get pissed off with people saying people like Leo are lazy.....saying someone is lazy is like saying they don't give a shiite, that they can't be bothered. To me that is plain wrong.

Has anyone considered that guys like Leo  might just be running out of gas....that fatigue is starting to set in. Arnold was probably right when he said that some of the AW Nix players are suffering from WC fatigue. They have 12 months of continuous football. They ended the last A-League season went into quite intense training, had a high pressure series of WC warm up games with loads of travel. Went to the high pressure WC and then came back and straight into the next A-league season.

I think we she give the guy a break......saying a player is lazy is very very unfair!!

Leo can't be running out of gas, he is supposedly the fittest player in the team, a freak according to the trainers, there have been plaenty of artiicles about his performances in fitness tests and his apparent drive - I've watched him too many times this and last season give up on a ball which in theory he should be able to get to - this in my mind equates to a lack of effort ie LAZY!

Tim Brown is the fittest player in the team. Hes the freak. Then followed by Tony Lochead. Leo I am sure isnt far behind. Look I think to many people have been ripping into him. End of the day the Phoenix have been relying on all the creativity coming from outwide and the opposition know this and have been shutting it down quickly. The other issue for someone playing out wide is that if they push forward and the opposition win the ball they can very easily be caught out. And since we dont hold on to the ball for long at all, I wouldnt push very far forward either. Which is exactly what we saw from the All Whites at the world cup.

Ricki needs to get rid of the one up front and go with two players.. hearfield needs to be in a more attacking role.. elliot needs to be thrown out of the club, elliot is ordinary.. i dont think ive seen him hit a pass yet..

Hahah, clearly you haven't watched any of the past 3 games.

I have two requirements for this game and i'll be happy, Ward to start and Mac or Pav up front with Greenie. I don't care what else happens just those two PLEASE Ricki.

I have the answer... What we have been missing ALL season....

And how could we have overlooked it

Our players haven't had their lucky head bandages on

How many great games were played with a player wrapped up?

he did have a good preseason, and also looked good in the first few games next to greeny, so even though i dislike him currently, he could do quite well. But he has to sit next to chris rather than only one ever being on the field at once.

As long as ward is behind greenacre, or even mac next to greenacre, then we will see more from Chris imo.

Is'nt it nice to talk about football for a change....instead of money!!!!

Yup....for me Pav and Ward have to be in the mix. No BigMac please. He plays like he's wearing gumboots instead of football boots!!!!!

Sure hope the lads heads are in the right place....perfect way to show the club still has balls....a big away win.

                      Paston

Hearfield*   Sigmund    Durante    Lia

                   Muscat

Ifill                                   Bertos

                Ward

        Pavlovic        Greenacre

Subs: Elliott, Daniel, Vukovic, Musa.

So North is out for the Egypt game isn't he?  I'd put Lia at LB because Muscat is a far too good DM to waste at LB and Lia isn't doing well anywhere else and if Durante can keep him in position he could be alright.

Don't like taking Brown out, especially after recent form but I figure we need Ward going forward and there was nobody else to put in for him.

When's travelling squad announced?  Assumedly after Newcastle's game tonight?

*ARRRGHHHHH

EDITED to account for Brown's suspension and the fact I completely forgot about Elliott.

couldn't agree more, i think mac gets a bit of stick on here that he largely doesn't deserve. sure if u have hi on as lone striker he not going to pull any tricks.... we seen what happened when he tried... but when played with greenie he done well in my opinion

i like this:
The previously out-of-favour Ward is likely to start alongside Simon Elliott and Vince Lia in midfield, while Troy Hearfield will play right back if North is deemed too travel-weary.

Herbert said he was also considering playing two strikers, meaning Greenacre could be paired with Paul Ifill, Pavlovic or Dylan Macallister

Sounds promising indeed. At the very least, no harm in trying to mix things up a bit as we haven't exactly been profiting from the previous setup.

.
Like the sound of this....Ward, Elliot, Lia midfield.
Also good to hear that he is thinking of two strikers....if he is then Leo is going to be benched probably.....no room for Leo if Ifill, Greenie, Pav, Ward, Elliot and Lia all play.

The Jets looked very good drawing with the Roar.....seems there are no easy games in the A-League.....we will have to be on top of our game to get anything out of this.

I am looking for a improvement in performance.....if they play a lot better with more dirrection and they still lose then so be it. But I would be gutted if they they show no spirit and roll meekly over.
