Our goal difference is a major asset....what ever happens and we do lose games we need to keep it tight and hopefully only go down by a goal. We still have a +5 goal difference over 5th place Heart.

this may sound a bit doomsday-ish, but next week's game could well be a battle for a playoff spot... any playoff spot...
Permalink Permalink

Disappointing to have dropped both, but I don't think they were down to complacency on our part. CCM/Brisbane have been setting the benchmark for the last two seasons and us being in second was a slight mirage tbf.

All things considered a playoff spot will represent a great achievement given the adversity we have faced on and off the field over the past few months. We're still in a good spot to get a home final, and anything can happen from there, as we saw in early 2010.WPFC12012-02-19 00:38:06

Glory v Roar & Heart v CCM next weekend, so we can make up some ground by beating Sydney. If we don't get 3 points there, I think we can kiss the top 4 goodbye.

Whatever happens over the next few weeks I will not sleep easily until we are mathematically safe, preferably safely nestled in the Top 4.

If Sydney FC lose today, CCM will be the first team to be confirmed in the playoffs. Failing that, if they beat GCU on Wednesday, they will be in the playoffs.

I think that if we beat Sydney and Melb Heart over next two weeks we will be Top 6 (39pts).

3 wins from 5 would almost do us for Top 4 in my opinion!

If Sydney win today, we will find ourselves in a very delicate position heading into the next game.

All home teams have won their games this round.  Adelaide should continue the trend, come on cakes do us a favour!  Plus Victory would be 2nd from bottom.

BTW, thanks LF1 for updating the table.

.
I really hope that CCM and the Roar win everthing from now(except CCM at the ROF) Them beating everyone helps us.....plus I can't see us as top 2 material.
If we beat Sydney and Roar and CCm win then we are back to third next round.

The thought was that around 40 points is enough to get 4th...so we ahve 7 to get. Two wins and a draw. GC at home would have to be one of those wins. A draw away is possible. If CCM are clear first by the last round them they might not play their first team in the last game of the season against us, especially with their heavy ACL commitments.

Still everything is still in our hands...if we are good enough we can get at least 3rd. w/ould settle for 4th. Anything else would be  huge disappointment.

I would not be disappointed with 5th or 6th.

I'd take 5th and 6th but would be slightly tinghed with disappointment considering we were 2nd for 2 weeks.  It's hard coming down when you've been there.  I just want us to make the playoffs at the very least.

All on for next week with the battle for 4th place...Sydney v Nix  goal difference will certainly help the Nix.  Heart v Mariners will be interesting, (depending on outcome in Sydney) with goal difference being crucial again.

In an ideal world we'd pick up maximum points and win the play-offs.

Also Spurs would finish at least 2nd, win the FA Cup and NUFC would get 4th.  Maggie Cheung would also be my secret mistress.

I'll settle for Nix 4th and a good run in the play-offs.  Spurs 4th or 3rd, Toon 5th or 4th.  And a session on the internet...

Nah mate  That's just Dream World....!, which is an amusement park located somewhere near the Gold Coast, funnily enough.
Maybe Clive lives there..?

Topically now, Sydney game shaping as critical to our table position.Huge effort required, all key personnel (except Daniel?) should be available. Minimising our goals against from this point on will be critical to achieving any run in the playoffs.

I think top 2 is beyond us, so the more 3 points CCM & Roar can pick up, the better for us (apart from CCM against us in the final round ofc).

Interesting, Gold Coast have the best home finish to their season.. but no crowd to capitalise on it.

Aaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!
Please no. The games against perth have been terrible this season....plus its a shiite time to watch away in Perth. Hopefully we avoid them in the playoffs.

Unfortunately perth will prob finish well this season. 3 home games Roar, Victory and CCM and 2 easy aways GC and Adelaide.....I expect them to pick up 3rd. Just hope we get 4th and they lose their playoff game.
