good to have the maths worked out

a win tonight would make for a whole lot less angsting in the next 2 weeks

a sydney loss/draw would also help just incase an ugly miracle did happen with them and other results - favour a draw as seeing the Tards be guaranteed to miss out would be good

Thanks GC. Just what we needed.
I still want 3rd. Don't want to travel to Perth. Shiite place to go, Shiite team to play. THe two games we played them this year were the worst football watching experiances in my life.

The only way we could miss out is to lose all three while sydney win all 3 (Sydney would also need to overturn a 13 goal diff relative to us), plus other results going against us.

Actually no, if we lose all 3 and they win all 3, the goal difference doesn't come into it, they'd have more points than us.

But I can't see them winning 3 in a row (wouldn't put it past us to lose 3 on the trot though...).

We're officially confirmed in the Top 6 after last night's result!!

Great effort from the lads to do that with still three games to go.

Anyone else dislike how we're supposed to call the first round of the playoffs a final? There's nothing final about it unless you lose. Win and you get through to the quarters.

Unless someone follows the A-League structure, they get very confused and think we've done better than we have. I guess that's the point - to try and make games sound more important than they are to attract casual fans?

I remember trying to explain our performance in 2010 to someone who only follows things loosely. He asked, so you're in the final? No. We're in the first round of the playoffs.
Then we beat Perth so he said, now you're in the final? No. We're into the next round, the quarter-finals.
We beat Newcastle and then asked, so you're in the final now aren't you? No. This is a semi-final. If we win our next match we're in the final... He gave up asking after that.

Oh yeah. I forgot Sydney and Newcastle have to play each other, so can't both get ahead of us. We're in the playoffs!

Home final so close yet so far.

Heart and Newcastle can only get to 41...Sydney to 40. We are already on 40 now. Sydney play both in the run-in to finals!

Tard FC away won't be easy because we've never won in Melbourne.

LOL, Magilton will be looking for a new job. Hope he knocks over Muscat when going out the door.

And Marco, just how has your move there benefited you more than from where you were? The only thing you would have learned from Kewell &/or Muscat, is to how to spend a game gobbing off at the referee.

Adelaide will be confident after winning earlier in the week in the ACL. Brisbane will be unconfident after losing during the week in the ACL.

So very much this!

I would say that tonight I am the #1 Cakes fan but I suspect Hard News may beat me to that title...

Horrorcanes v Cheetahs 31st March 2012.

That almost certainly means a Sunday final.

Boooooooooo!

A long shot is me just thinking about a sniff at catching CCM. It relys on them losing to perth, then again next week to set up a must win game at the ring of fire on the last game of the season - but I don't care!

Allegedly

If only Adelaide could have held on for the win. Would have been much easier to catch the Roar if they were only 2 points ahead of us, as the goal difference is heavily in their favour if we do both end up on the same number of points.
