Six clubs with a negative goal diff
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

That really does outline how dominant the top 4 teams have been so far.
Sydney FC 2 Brisbane Roar 1

We've picked up points in the same number of games as we haven't! #dontstopbelievin
Played 20 won 5
Don't stop believing etc......
I suspect I am the only one here that actually knows where Basildon is (maybe UK Kiwi).

Watched county cricket at Chelmsford......Nice little ground !!
WOW! Really should just be a top 4 playoffs, the other 6 teams don't deserve it at all.

I suppose that is also true, though same could be said of the mid-table teams in the Prem League, not poor enough to be relegated, but not good enough to get top 6 and get a shot at Europe. Almost every year 'nothing' to play for.
To play for is a better finishing position than you currently have, or if in 5th, to hold onto it. I just like the idea of the finals being only for the best teams, I wouldn't complain if it was just a league with 4 legs (Home & Away twice), and no playoffs. (Also the idea of an increase to a 36 game season would be awesome :P)
The FFA make too much money out of play-offs for them to be axed.
Likewise reducing from 6 sides.
Yup. This is purely about money and nothing else.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Not quite. It's also about the culture of Aus sports and what Bruce six-pack is familiar with in his other sporting codes in 'straya.
Whether we like it or not, the majority of the Australian public only care about the A-League when it gets to the finals series, and the team that is geographically close to their location is doing well. The FFA know this, and cut the preliminary final from the finals series because "it didn't get a large enough crowd" i.e it didn't make them enough money. If the finals series really was about finding the best team in the country, then the preliminary final (that rewards the top 2 league finishers) would never have been axed.

Oh I understand why the A-League have it, just personally have a different preference. Of course FFA want the money and the profile of the 6 team playoffs.

Newcastle Jets 2 Melbourne Heart 0

Hopefully Adelaide can do the business in Sydney. Then when we beat the Roar, we are right back in the mix #DontStopBelievin
It's clear the FFA want Sydney to take 5th or 6th spot. So that leaves the rest of us fighting over that one remaining playoff spot.

What happened?
Newcastle bet Heart
Sydney bet Adelaide
Perth bet CCM?!
Now we're bottom of the table, 6pts off the top 6.
MUST WIN TODAY.
Aaaaaaaaaaaargh! Perth won.
Perth were in a rut, sacked their coach and the new guy guides them to a win over the league leaders....who would have thought that removing a poorly performing coach was a way to get out of of a rut!!!
Now we are last again....we have to beat the Roar.simple as that.
Sydney FC 2 Adelaide United 1
Melbourne Victory 1 Western Sydney Wanderers 2
Perth Glory 2 Central Coast Mariners 1

A win today would put us 8th and potentially within one win of the top 6. A loss and we are last by two points, and off the top six by 6 points. We really need to win three games at home in a row (Adelaide, Jets, Heart), they are three beatable teams and it would give us 9 points, and put us in a position to have a reasonable crack at making the playoffs. Any less that 9 points in the next 4 games (including today) would almost be the season over for us.

I think this indicates it... Not spoken as such but surely you can read betweeen the lines
On Saturday afternoon Football Federation Australia announced that Neill had plumped for Sydney FC, where he will swell the big-name quotient (Alessandro Del Piero and Brett Emerton are also on the roster) in Sky Blue. FFA chief David Gallop confirmed that the sport's governing body would be stumping up some of the cash for Neill's guest stint.
