Perth are bound to fall down the table a bit, I reckon it'll be easier to overtake them than overtake Victory.

People keep saying the Glory are over achieving but we are half way they the season, I think it's time people accept they are the real deal.

They have recruited a very good squad, are really dangerous at set pieces (huge area of weakness in the A-League) and Perth is a horrible trip for teams to make. The only way I see them fading is if they are hit with injuries to key players. Much like us, they haven't had their depth tested.

Pre season I thought Perth would miss the playoffs.

I have now accepted that they are the real deal in the sense they will finish in the top 4. I'm not yet ready to accept they are the real deal in the sense that they are favourites to win the competition. They seem to be just doing enough to win games and a not a lot more than that.

I don't think chickens are being counted.

No one seems to be saying we definitely WILL finish in the top 2/3/4...

I think people are just admitting/acknowledging that at the start of the season most of us were worrying / angsting over whether we would be 5th/6th/7th/ or 8th ish, and that now the focus has shifted to 2nd/3rd/4th/5th

That's a good thing.

Anyone else worried that we aren't looking to strengthen in the transfer window? We have two squad spots, and the money that Brockie was on.

He is also looking to recruit players for next season, with a defender and a striker top of his wishlist.

While the departures of Jeremy Brockie and Reece Caira mean there are two roster spots available, Merrick had no plans to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.

He had spoken with Marco Rojas' father and manager Rodi Rojas about a potential return but to no avail.

"There's no doubt that Rojas is going to stay in Germany and that's fine," Merrick said.

"I'll always look around and see who's available, check in with players and see how they're doing. I'll never try and twist someone's arm but I'll always let them know there's an option where I'm coaching. That's how I got the likes of [Michael] McGlinchey and [Nathan] Burns, I always keep in touch."

Just like last season, we are always 1-2 key injuries away from falling apart. Ridenton/Rufer have promise but they are nowhere near the level of Roly & Wee Mac etc. Its a side effect of the salary cap, just look at how Sydney have been derailed.

My answer to that is I trust Ernie's transer nouse. Look at his record. Trust him. He knows what he is doing. Within the constraints of how much he has to play with, who is available, and the gaps in our team, I am confident he'll do a good job of getting the best he can for us.

Plus, note that what he has achieved with transfers he has achieved at a time when he could not point to the form results and standings he can right now. So I reckon he has extra leverage/pulling power now to compared to before this season.

Yep, we know though that we don't have much depth in a few areas, and that teams like Sydney, City, and Roar are also going to strengthen in January, I would like us to be at least looking..

Patrick, could you code FeverBot to do a live "as it stands" table as well during games?

I *could*, it would be hard though because Ultimate A-League are pretty much the only site out there that have a nice API to use, and they don't do live tables. The other downside is that it would result in a post for every single goal, so the thread would be really cluttered and it would harder to see what the actual table looks like. I think I'll leave FeverBot as is, for the time being at least.

Fair call Patrick.

To clarify, what I had in mind:

(a) assumed that there would be a live feed api enabled site somewhere to use; and

(b) that while the current fever bot posts to this thread, I thought the live update fever bot might just update a "curtrent as it stands" table on the home page...

Ah okay, I getcha. That makes a lot more sense, but it would result in a whole lot of code duplication because the home page table and the FeverBot posts are really closely linked (thats why there is no Goals For or Goals Against in the posts, because they wont fit on the homepage).

Hi Patrick, is there a way Fever Bot can incorporate the goals for, against and diff into the table?

We are currently in SECOND PLACE!!!

Same Points (25), Goal Diff (11), and Goals Scored (25) as Victory. We have more wins though (8v7)!!

FeverBot is probably going to be unable to realise that unless Glory get another goal.

EDIT: Actually, A-League have got rid of Games WOn as a seperator. Victory ahead on Points in Head-To-Head matches.

Nervous? More tingly & excitey.

For the benefit of Number8, BBS and any other revisionist, the three seasons that we are not on the verge of passing total points for the season are the times we made the play offs (2009/10, 10/11 and 11/12) - all under Ricki "no plan" Herbert.

7 points clear of our previous best at this time (18 points) and in both of those seasons we lost the next game.

So if we win we'll be 10 points better than any previous season.
