I applaud the sentiment SO, getting a win away from Wellington for only the third time this season has to be good for the team. Trouble is, Gold Coast haven't lost since 13 Dec and just beat Melbourne - who spanked us. I'd take a point.

Anything from this Gold coast game will be great, especially as i will be at  this game and not the last one against CCM. Hopefully a win will push us to whip the mariners and then we will get that home spot with Perth losing both games. And mariners to beat the jets!!

Perth I think could manage 4th, if they do, I think I would rather us finish 6th, and face Sydney or Gold Coast, than have too fly too Perth for the 4th/5th play off.

But saying that, ofc I want us to win all our games, and have results go our way for 4th.

I reckon we stand a good chance of holding 4th, i newcastle drop any points they can't catch us (gd is sh*te @ -7), brisbane have to win both away games and we stay ahead of them with 2 draws. Perth is the one we have to chase we win one, draw one and go to 4th on 38 they then have to win one at least.... If we lose both 6th is on the cards, so last two games we have t take points, minimum to get 4th is 4 points I think.

Centrebet have got the Fury as favourite (just) to beat the Jets - let's hope the've got it right.

Can I make a suggestion, shouldn't this thread go into the 'Straya - A-League' section.

It's more universal than just a Phoenix matter.

Thanks,

No, it's not about the other teams, it is where we are on the ladder that counts

Stay on the Phoenix side

We need to rely on our own results. We can hope that other games will go our way, but if we get 6 points, we're in with a grinArd Righ2010-02-03 00:36:02

I think Perth will lose to Sydney this weekend, but they should beat Brisbane in R27, so I'd predict their final tally at 39 points.

Newcastle should really win their two remaining games (CCM and Adelaide) although anything can happen in the Jets/CCM derby - on form though ((last night's result notwithstanding), they should get to 40 points.

So if the Phoenix manage to win both of their remaining games, they'd also get to 40 and would take fourth on GD from the Jets, but if they lose this weekend to GCU, it'll probably be sixth, regardless of whether they beat CCM or not.  This of course relies on Brisbane and NQF finally being out of the running by then.

All of this will go out the window I'm sure with another couple of unpredictable results this weekend!

Sydney would be the worst team for us to play if we want any chance in the finals

We've been absolutely crap against them 3 times in a row.

A win against GC this weekend for us is very, very important. If we don't win or at least draw then it lets NQ/Brisbane in with a sniff

Hopefully NQF won't beat Melbourne and Brisbane won't beat Adelaide, so that extra pressure won't be there by the time the Phoenix kick off on Sunday night.

As it is looking like 5th will mean being away to Perth I would also rather finish 6th than 5th and have a game somewhere more Nix fans will travel to (i.e. Melb, Syd or Gold Coast). I also think we have just as good a shot at beating one of the top 3 as beating Perth away (distance, time zones, Dadi, past results etc.).

However the upside to finishing 5th over 6th is that you still have a theoretical shot at a home play-off game in the 2nd round - obviously if we win and then 6th beats 3rd (e.g. Jets beat Melb / Syd / GCU - not likely but possible).

At the moment I'm more worried about locking in a top 6 finish than where in the 6 we end up.

Sydney need to beat perth to go top. If we win both games we go 4th. It would look something like this:

Sorry but it actually has the predicted result for perth v bris  at 2-1 to Perth.
Perth currently on 36. One wins means 39. So hopefully they drop the game to Sydney.
