Textbook biased poll.  By putting the "he has a professional career to pursue" gloss on yes, they're implying that staying would hold back Marco's career.

Like that stupid f**king embarrassment of a poll on the YF front page. I'm glad I stayed away from all this. Only comments I have seen are from friends saying that after the behavior from YF people doubt he'd want to play for NZ let alone the Phoenix.

f**king disgraceful.

I love the "professional career to pursue" option.

Sorry Wellington Phoenix, you're too amateur to be considered a professional career option by the Doom Post/Stuff website muppets.

I don't want to keep bagging the article from a few days ago, but when the official YF statement is that Melbourne is a bigger and more professional club than the Phoenix, it is hard to be angry when the press start talking like that.

Anyway, I gave up on this thread a long time ago, and cannot be bothered reading through all that I have missed.  Can someone please provide a quick synopsis of what the current situation with Marco is?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Marco may have to consider that his father (manager/agent) does not know what he is talking about. I can see Marco as an attacking midfielder as an option in the Nixs team formation. I can't see that happening in a experienced Victory midfield. At least in the Nixs, he is proven to be a starting line-up player and they could slowly move him in that position.

But in the victory team, he might not have a starting line-up and since melbourne has virtually no winger play, he is due to go into winger again, a position that he wanted to avoid in the Nixs. It's a mistake to go on so many accounts.

If he had about three full seasons, then he would be ready and he would go straight to the English Championship maybe since he would be working along side with Ifill.

Quite a puzzling situation imho.

"The style the Phoenix play does not compliment Marco to his full capabilities, a team such as Brisbane is the perfect fit for such a player as we have seen with Kosta Barbarousas this season. Marco will enjoy the same sort of football at Melbourne and he is joining a team that has been extremely successful since the inception of the A-League."

Wow. Noah Hickey thinks Melbourne play the same sort of football as Brisbane.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here.He will be much better off anywhere but the Phoenix where no one will evere criticise him for anything he does.
As for playing for NZ same as above.I'm sure playing for Chile will be all sweetness and light.

Er...the way we play suits Marco _perfectly_. We basically just 'pass it to Marco' at every opportunity.

This is part of our problem.  With Ifill out 'pass to marco' was a great substitute for 'pass to ifill' but if we play them both all our players will get confused...

I think the general media PR of team Rojas has been totally misguided (no surprise, given basically its an amatuer and a young tyro doing the talking).  Its like they're trying to condition people to understand it from an angle that isn't understandable.  Central midfielder?  His skills have been effective on the wing... yet there's as much a possibility of shifting central in Wellington as there is in Melbourne, especially with Ifill back its entirely plausible to give the Phoenix more punch in midfield to cause confusion in defences... best thing for his career?  I'd imagine if he is keen to play for the All Whites being under the current manager is a good start.

I think the reason that Rojas is looking to go elsewhere is based on a lack of faith in the sustainability of the current ownership within the Phoenix.  I can't blame him on that.  The financial situation in the way it is being reported is fairly ordinary.  Andrew Durante said words to that effect on when he went to Sydney FC for the ACL that it had been playing on the minds of the players.  You can even go back to the Auckland Warriors situation when the club went bust and Eric Watson stepped in, and they appointed Daniel Anderson.  A lot of Kiwi internationals left the club in a screaming heap because of two reasons... firstly, lack of assurance in their careers (not being paid previously, not really knowing much about the new ownership structure), and secondly, the famous comment to Stacey Jones from Joe Vagana "who's your coach bro?"  Daniel who?  It seems a similar situation here at the 'Nix.  I don't think there were too many if any Warriors fans who gave it to the Vaganas for leaving... we were grateful that a number of the youngsters coming through at the time and some key talent in Ali Lauitiiti and Stacey Jones decided to give it another shot.  The guys who left because they had no faith on ensuring they got paid for the season... fair call.

I think its time for Team Rojas to cut to the chase.  If you are going to continue to roll within the media circles, you are better off to give a plausible reason (lack of financial security is a fair one), rather than roll out a bunch of nonsense that makes no sense.  Its not just the fact the Yellow Fever brought Marco through that pings them off, to me its the excuses make no sense whatsoever, and I think the Yellow Fever fans are smart enough to cop an honest answer.

Or they could go with a comedy option and pass it to Siggy so we can watch him Charge down the flanks taking out anything in his way. Easily the most beautiful thing I have seen in a football match, a moving wall with a ball.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

not sure if this has been covered as my searches yeilded nothing. But our (probably for not much longer) has been nominated as one of seven finalists for the NAB Young Footballer of the year. He's February's nominee.

I missed this. Young footballer of the year is supposed to be Australian?! Either that or they've changed it from 09/10 season.

And before you ask, source for last year's info:
http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/nab/home/About_Us/7/4/2/8/Football+Federation+Australia+(FFA)/?ncID=ZBA

Australian players under the age of 21 at the commencement of the season, and who have not played more than 10 Hyundai A League games, are eligible to win the NAB A-League Young Footballer of the Year.

Once he's lived in Melbourne for the next four years he'll be able to play for Australia.

Bet he is waiting on the results of the whole 'will there be a club'. The timing of him saying a decision will be made early next week is too good.

In that case the fact he said "melbourne are strong favourites" leaves me rather worried that there will be no club  damn you brain stop thinking too much

Top article here by Michael Brown. Very balanced view of the whole Rojas situation - including the obvious parallels with Jeremys Brockie's move to Sydney in 2006.

The one thing I thought was stupid was Jeremy actually went to Hawke's Bay because Ricki Herbert promised him he was going to make the Phoenix. That's why he left in contract early. He kept regular tabs with Brockie then all of a sudden stopped contacting him and he never ended up picking up. So the fact they're saying ..could Rojas end up in the NZFC if he doesn't crack the starting line up in Melbourne, is ridiculous.
