Unfortunately, his Dad thinks he's Messi, as all Dads do, and who can blame him. Fact is he's just a kid, but has best potential since Rufer, but so raw. Got pummeled into ad Ad sign one away game, and that was the end of him in that match.  Is making a major mistake, but hope it works out for him. Man, if I was him, playing with Ifill here for one season here would be such a buzz. Especially with a takeover of ownership virtually guaranteed.

A takeover of ownership virtually gauranteed?

Something you know that the rest of the world doesn't?

Any chance he is doing something similar to Rooney and trying to force the Nix into a better deal? I think that's what Rooney did.

Maybe Marco's Dad is actually smarter than we think....or more a realist.

As much as we are trying not to think about it our club is deep shiite. Our illustrious owner is days away from having the book thrown at him by the IRD. CCfootball Ltd could cease to be in existence by the weekend. This indian guy is not going to pay the loan, Terry throwing his house in won't be enough to save his empire.

At the very least things are going to get very messy. Despite all the rumours of other NZ investors willing to take over this is a very long shot. Who would be mad enough to throw away $1.5 million per year in the current economic climate. Who is going to pay the wages from next Friday? what new player will want to sign?

Shuffling young Marcos off to another club means he will be well away from whatever crap comes down. At least at the Victory he knows that the wages will be paid, the support staff will all be there.....it will be business as usual and he can just concentrate on playing football.

No, if he was smart and knew the club was going under he would have waited for it to go under before telling the club Marco was going somewhere else. That way Marco would have avoided all the snide comments and media attention.

News, who has sources of information denied to you or me, has said repeatedly that Terry/CCF's money troubles are not what is motivating the Rojases to move. Clearly you don't believe him?

Out of curiosity, can Marco be given the youth marquee spot at any other team? Is that only allowed for Australians at the Australian teams?

To be honest I don't know who to believe anymore....
Even Durante has said that the clubs financial position has weighed on the players minds this season.
I am sure there are many reasons that Marco is leaving.....I guess it is possible that the financial position of the Nix could have been one of them.

This whole thing has turned into a circus......the sooner it is resolved the better.
My advice to the Rojas family is if you are involved in any transfers in the future KEEP YOUR MOUTHS  SHUT until you have something signed.

you raise a good point Z, if you were melbourne or adelaide and were/are thinking about signing this kid - would you want to get inbvolved with him now that you realise the influence his Dad holds - it's just another person you have to placate and butter up....unlike a player manager there is no impartiality involved.

Are you implying that there are player agents out there that have less integrity than say, a used car salesman, or maybe even less than an NBR journalist?

in theory a player agent/manager should be acting with the best interest of the player, not pushing his own agendas....as a parent may be inclined to do.

In theory? Agents have a rep of going for maximum contract size (becaue they are often on some kind of commision) rather than caring about the player. His father is much more likely to have Marco's best interests at heart but at the same time he isn't a professional (talks way too much) and may become more emotionally involved than he should.

Rojas excited about All Whites futures
"Teenager Marco Rojas is relishing the chance to step on to the international stage and has no regrets about picking New Zealand over his Chilean heritage."

Imagine the hand-wringing in Chilean football circles tonight when they read that.

A kid who scored 2 goals in 16 games. And Chile let him get away?

He hasn't played yet.....

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

That's what I thought too. He says he wants to play in WC qualifiers, but there is nothing in this press release about playing the Japan/China friendlies.

Clubs receive $150K baby bonus

By David Davutovic
April 15, 2008 A-LEAGUE clubs have effectively been handed a $150,000 cheque each to spend on their brightest young prospect.

An Australia marquee player will be the feature of a radical overhaul of the A-League salary cap, designed to ensure clubs do not lose their best young talent.

Each club will be allowed to nominate an "Under-23 marquee", with up to $150,000 of his wages to be excluded from the salary cap.

There is no limit to what the player can be paid but he has to be Australian - or Kiwi in Wellington's case.

Yay! That's going to make the A-League more financial sustainable!

Oh. Wait.

Now that we have a boring 5 week adjournment to sit through re: Terry's finances I find my attention turning back to  Marco Rojas

No announcement from Marco on his club future yet, despite saying it would be sorted early this week.

What does this mean? Could it be that he is waiting to see what happens with the financial situation?

If so, will the 5 week adjournment help or hinder our chances?

On the other hand, maybe he just finally got some good PR advice and decided not to make an announcement at the same time as the All Whites squad announcement. After all, why go from hero to zero on the same day?

I would have thought there wouldn't be a need to resign if his contract is due to end at the end of this month.

Its all in the way you hold your mouth. Let me make it clearerer - re-signed. I can't see any other decent reason for him waiting this long unless it was to see if there was going to be a Nix next year. Let's face it, everyone knows he would be better off staying here from a development angle and it is true that the future of the club was in the balance. I reckon Terry has fallen down an outside sh*thouse and come up with a gold watch in his mouth and the Nix will survive [I base this soley on the fact that the IRD are not mugs and wouldn't have given this extention unless they were more than confident of getting a result]. Rodi got himself backed into a bit of a corner when questioned and didn't want to scare the horses by stating the obvious "well we don't know if the Nix will be around or not next year so we have been looking at a plan B". He got himself into a bit of a bind there and the more he said the more tangled he got [happens a lot when non-liars tell lies]. Not a bad theory you reckon?
