Maybe we should ask Sonny Bill Williams how many good luck cards he got from Bulldogs fans when he buggered off from them!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Interesting sidenote. Talking to my mate at the Bball last night, he was pretty anti yellow fever after what he'd read in the papers about what was being said about Rojas. Tried to explain that it was only a minority making stupid comments, but to little avail.
And he is the type of guy that I've gone to games with every now and then. Not sure whether he'll be so keen anymore.
So... just pointing out that all the negativity might have had a few unintended consequences.

Obviously not a sports fan then. In the same circumstances, the same kind of comments would be made by supporters in any code. Some of the things said were over the top but that is always going to happen.

This whole "the comments and negativity stuff .." stuff is nonsense. Welcome to the world of professional sport, players leave clubs and supporters get pissed off about it.

No - this is serious.

I get annoyed with the drunken twatters at the games - I'm sure they are all yelllow fever.  May not get a season pass for 2011/12 as a result.

I'm not arguing that it doesn't happen elsewhere at all. And I'm totally annoyed that Marco wants to leave as well btw. So not saying there shouldn't be some form of angst over it.

BUT... Wgtn is a pretty small town, and we rely as a club pretty heavily on casual punters walking up to the odd game here and then. And, so far Yellow Fever has had a pretty positive reputation everywhere, and that is one of the key reasons that casual punters come along in my experience (the atmosphere is better than rugby etc). It would be interesting to see what would happen to crowd sizes if that good will was lost.

Just musing... nothing more.

Wait, did some Tard offer Marco a handjob? That's called sexual abuse of the mentally incapable and it's wrong for Ernie Merrick to be condoning that.

Ernie Merrick is from Glasgow. We don't condone sexual activity at all.

Marco, you know I love you and until you make a definite decision I will stand by you, but this comment pisses me off a little bit. Yes, there have been some negative comments but there have also been many positive ones. And even the negative ones are just upset because you are held in such a high regard. I photoshopped your head onto a picture of Jesus ffs!

If comments from disgruntled fans are a factor in your decision then:

a) I'm disappointed and think you should perhaps give a little more latitude to those who ultimately pay your wages, and

b) Melbourne Victory is the absolute last place you should go!

If Victory don't get past the group stage or if one of their foreign players is not injured he wont get to play this season and Victory haven't qualified for next year, so at best he could be playing ACL in 2 years...IF the tards qualify.

Ermm, just so you know - Danny is still in NZ (played in last night's chariddy game), so may still well go to Perth via Akld.

This whole mess started because of this. I don't think he should say anything more than "I haven't decided yet. You'll know after the contract is signed." Even saying victory are favourites is too much IMO.

My advice to him would be...
1) Take your time, don't be rushed into a decision because of media interest.
2) If you are unsure (but back yourself) sign a one year contract.
3) Listen to father for advice but the decision is completely your own. Tell your father not to talk to the media at all and make sure he knows what things he should and should not be discussing with the clubs involved. Take more ownership of this.
4) Make sure you will be happy and comfortable. If you really are unhappy in Wellington, move on regardless of the fans. It does not do you or the club any good if you don't want to be here.

Exactly. So don't announce anything (or even drop any hints) until the contract has been signed.

The idea of going to the Tards for a chance to play ACL is bollox. You can play for the Nix and still go play ACL with some other club if you're good enough. The player eligibility rules for the comp seem so ridiculous - e.g. Durante.

So don't go!

Durante doesn't have to contend with being a foreign spot, Marco will. So he needs to be the regular team to have a chance of ACL football.

(My point is Rojas has ambition.)
Permalink Permalink

In fact if the Tards were trying to rush him into signing by saying they needed him for ACL, he should sign a short term deal and that way he could see if he liked it over there.

I'm not talking about ACL this season, but merit (for Marco) of choosing a team that could make it to the ACL next season because he wants exposure, to move to better leagues. Phoenix can't offer ACL football, and that will be a problem downside for the ambitious.

He can't play for the tards currently in the ACL, even if he signed for them tomorrow as their squad has been finalised for the group stages and can only play ACL if one of the tards' foreign players were injured and replaced by marco or they made it past the group stage and they can submit a new squad and marco replaces one of the current foreign players. If that doesn't pan out at best he could play in the ACL in 2 years, and that is IF the tards qualify.

They also have Ricardinho, their marquee player, currently not in their ACL squad. Not sure how he would take it if marco flies in to replace him IF carlos is injured.

Marco may very well be waiting on a decision on fatty before he signs, as the next chance for the tards in the acl is 2 years and by then he would probably be thinking europe.

" Probably early next week, it should be all done and dusted."

By that means:

Nix will either be dead or alive by early to mid next week

Victory are favourites because Terry's deal will likely to fall through

If this is true, then all this angst is over nothing because I have no especial gr (as the Irish put it) for Terry S one way or the other. But as another poster put it, "new owners don't grow on trees".
