Moss is class in goal, excellent cb in (damn memory blank ex fulham player) Muscat in the middle with Hernandez and Archie up top.

Thats is one hell of a core to build a team around.

Compared to last year, this year they have been ordinary and pretty much the same core.

This season they have been crap the 3 times I have watched them - doesn't matter what individuals are like, and one of those you mention wasn't even playing.

Again seemed to take the foot off the pedal in the 2nd half and it cost us 3 points because Melbourne are garbage to be honest.

You forgot we were playing against one of the best keepers in the league who had a couple of blinder saves. If only he played for us.... oh wait

Fair enough, a couple of good saves and we should've been winning at half time.

Don't get me wrong, we deserved to win I think, but could've done more in the 2nd half if we'd gone for it a bit more.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say Greenacre is not going to do it for us as a striker.  When he arrived we were expecting great things in and around teh box and by his own admission he is that sort of a player..I think he said ugly goals.  But our style doesnt suit that and there is no way he is going to get the ball 25m out and take players on and score.

Needs a rethink strategy/play wise and either how to get the ball to him in their or bring in another striker.

Bring it on...

Good result,  at beginning of the day I would have taken a point.  We should/could have won it.  Team played well,  thought brown and daniel both had good games.  Hope McKain not badly injured.  2 home games now,  play like that and the way we did again Adl and Bris and could be 6 points for us

We need more of what we saw at the goal - getting to the byline, firing crosses in. That is what Greenacre needs. That and some decent through balls in behind the defence.

Even when you dominated and had 3 times as many shots at goal as the home team who are struggling badly?

Settling for the odd point away from home isn't going to get us to the play offs, we are allowed to win away games you know?

I can understand what you are saying and I was initially thinking that. When I watched closer, he does alot of work off the ball drawing defenders. He is obviously our 'name' striker and attracts the opponents best defender. He draws that defender out of position and thus making the defender ineffective. This creates space for our guys which I don't think we use properly other than maybe Bertos in the first couple of games. Ifill operates from a deeper line so almost creates his own runs.

What appears to be his game is getting the ball and holding it up and playing down/back to our midfielders. I'm undecided if thats best for our team.

Agreed again. Very promising display, loved the harassing defence. Had some good chances and hopefully we can continue that form next week.

I agree, we did play well and that rubbish shouldn't be coming out. Just unfortunately lacked that killer blow. Hard for a number of the players to back up after midweek internationals too so that must be considered. Wouldn't mind seeing Crowther get a start. But in best interests of All Whites Paston should continue

satisfaction and a fair result, given the eArly goal. We seem to be undone each week by an analyst watching video of the Nix. We are finally getting there.

I can't see what the complaints are about here either.

Phoenix playing away, playing WELL away, came away with a draw.

I would rather see the Phoenix continue to play this way and get draws, than change their game plan and suddenly start losing.
A draw leaves Phoenix and the defending champions on equal terms after 6 rounds.

There's still plenty of football to be played before we get all angsty about missing the play-offs.

But I guess it's a good sign people expecting Phoenix to walk away with a win this season...Ard Righ2009-09-13 19:38:04

I think EVERYONE would be frustrated we didn't do better against Adelaide and now the Tards.  However the manner in which the lads have played is what people are taking away as positives.  Sure stats might suggest we should have got another 2 points again this week, we got a point and played well.

Life's short but there's next week to look forward to.

I'll join you Steve-O in angst-city when we play well enough to win but lose from a few poor decisions.  Haven't seen that yet this season.

was frustrated we didnt win (especially since i was in it up to the eyeballs at $5) but was an excellent performance. We smashed their midfield to bits and they hardly had a pop up front all night. We've done alright so far this season considering our difficult early draw... 6 pts to come from NQF and CCM at home??? We can do it!

Two draws in a row in games that we dominated doesnt rock or float my boat sorry. We need wins and goals and I cant se where they are going to come from.. I ack.Greenacre runs his socks off..laterally which may create gaps but it isnt going to bring a hatful of goals.  hell..we had to rely on one from a guy who was maligned last week.

If Greenacre gets injured what does our forward line look like..um..a player who has yet to play and one who looks great playing wide and from deep.

Why can't you see that draws do not = play off place?

We played well, we dominated, we were a touch unlucky.

I am disappointed we didn't win the game when we played well again. We must start turning good perfomances into wins or else it's all for nothing. I'm sorry if some people find the fact that I want to win so abhorrent.

I'm not UNHAPPY with a point, I'm disappointed we didn't turn our dominance into 3 points. Can't see what's wrong with that.

I must say there's a distinct lack of comment from those who talked up Marco Rojas, included him in their "starting elevens" from week one and bagged Ricki for not picking him.

Too early to criticise Rojas - he almost set up a winner right at the end there and deserves MUCH more of a chance than 20 minutes away from home. I'd give him a half next week I reckon...maybe start him and see how it goes.

Not criticising him at all....I hope the lad does well, but since fulltime tonight there hasn't been a single comment on here about his contribution.....contrast that with all the talk on here about how he should be playing in the lead-up to just about every match.

An excellent performance in the first half and solid in the second.  On the back of four players racking up there frequent flyer points during the week, I would say hugely impressive.  Melbourne have been slow to start but against Perth and Newcastle looked to be hitting good form so I don't subscribe to they're rubbish this year.  As ever, the A League is very well balanced, you can look like champions one week and wooden spooners the next, and that is every team in the league!  With some of the negative comments here I'm surprised we haven't had Daniel is lazy, Tim Brown can't finish and Ricki Herbert is a negative minded manager who should be sacked.

When has Ricki ever made a half time sub save when he dragged the awful Diego a few weeks back? The answer is never and he wont start doing it soon unless there is an injury which is the only hope Rojas has in seeing more than sub mins

to be honest, we dont really need to change much at all, if anything, the result will come as the team gels, and if we havent gelled yet and are dominating then what will happen when we gel completely.. players like ifill and greenacre will still be learning how everyone plays, the combinations come..

if we keep playing like this then were gonna end up hammering a team or 2.

He didn't contribute much, but he didn't see much of the ball. Almost set up a winner with the last kick and Hearfield didn't contribute any more or less than him either. Plenty time for him yet but the only way he's gonna progress is to be given game time.

Rojas makes me realise I will now never score the winner in a World Cup Final.  The generation after the next generation has arrived.  Would like to see him play again sooner rather than later as he may not be able to play in the night games in Nov/Dec as it surely will be past his bedtime!

Interesting you started by saying "too early to criticise".  Could have easily said too earlier to praise him.  Guess that shows your mind set.

Yeah its something we do every game now, in advance, to mourn the early goal we always concede.

I did laugh when I read that but then I want to ask all the Rojas supporters one simple question and its the same question to the Costa supporters (where are you now).

Q: If you start Rojas, who do you leave out of the starting 11?
A: You wont come up with one - end of the debate.

He'll see sub mins unless he completely outplays Bertos or Daniel or one gets injured...

We played good football. Unlucky not to win but it is early in the season. A draw and point is better then a loss and 0.

This isnt prem league. its A-league.
