The five year old posts are fixed, thanks Nik! Is there any way the Active Topics page could move to something similar to the old system (before Drupal). Rather than simply being a list of all threads sorted by time, it only showed the threads that had been posted on since you were last on the forum. I think it kept a track of the last time you visited, and cut any posts before that off the list. It also had options to only show threads that had been active in the last 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hr, 2 hrs 6 hrs etc. If this is too much work then don't worry about it, what we have now works great. It would just be a little bit easier to see which threads need to be read.

How can we adjust it so the newest reply is at the top and on the first page in stead of on the last?

I think there is also an issue with clicking the 'X new posts' link on the active page. For this thread there was 8 new posts for me, 2 last page and 6 on this page. Clicking that link brought me to the first new post on this page, rather than to the first of the 2 new ones on the previous page.

ER, cant't find a fecking thing on Regional thread - only a few posts that are 5 years old.

Otherwise, like great.

it's all old stuff first. What was fixed?

No Arsenal subsection thread at all

no search function

no way to not sift through pages, instead of just typing in what page you want. Last is not as useful as "go to Pg 32" etc.

TBH it's been months of this site being unworkable or back to front. Great community, hard site for computer newbies like myself to figure out. The "improvements " have all been for the worse at this end. I can't even find a spell check. Often 3 or 4 attempts to log in as well.

Hi everyone,

Can you all please take a second to think about your tone when you post in here, because I'm getting sick of it.

Everyone who runs Yellow Fever does it for free, in their own time. We don't work for you, we are just fans like you.

We made a mistake trusting three young guys who told us they had the skills to build a new site for us. They had no clue. Their mate took thousands of our dollars. It was a fuck up. It just made more work for us. But we are working hard to fix it. We are doing all of this for you, for nothing. We do it because we love the game, and the fan group.

What are most of you doing? Whinging like bitches.

Well, fuck off.

If you'd rather we charged you a monthly subscription so that we could hire a developer full time, then let me know. In the meantime, if you have a constructive suggestion or request, feel free to post.

If you just want to complain that the old site was better (foal30) then jog on, we don't want you here. Start a rival site, and see how easy that is for you.

If you are grateful for the time we put in, then buy a tee shirt, and wear it proudly on Fever Fridays.

That is all.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

To be a little fair,I doubt most people were aware of the situation. Any angst is surely aimed at the original screw up. And it is mostly positive suggestions and 'well done's now. I know where you're coming from, but it also seems a bit harsh.

Yeah, active topics was a tough one that I went back and forth on a few times. Because I automatically remember people with a cookie it's tough to define "when you last visited" - if it was the last page you viewed (which is what I'm storing now) then you're only going to get new posts in the last couple of seconds - not massively useful.
I could do something like "the start of the last day on which you visited" - would that make sense? The clearer I understand, the better I can make it :D

What would the difference be?
I used to only use Active Topics on the old (Cakes) site, and I can't work out what the benefit would be of being able to select a time period? Surely you only scroll down as far as you want to?

Wow. I was asked was I was no longer here and even the contact format (to reply to YF admin) I couldn't work. So after a dozen requests from various YF members I posted online becasue the question  at the top of the thread was "what is working/not working?".

Each of the lines I wrote are the issues I experience with the site, and if you read carefully you can see that I am indicating my knowledge of computers is limited. That you have taken such offensive is remarkable, bordering on the single worst piece of comprehension I've seen.

By all means charge a monthly subscription fee if that is what the clientele/community request and in fact provides a functioning website. Certainly if that option is provided maybe you might feel better? IME it's worked well for me on a Music site. My comment on the old style of the site is relevant, and despite being able to follow the instructions given around browsers and such things I don't really understand,  the site still has exactly the same issues.

If you think this is bitch whinging you seriously need to grow a pair. I thought I was following the request and I could have typed exactly the same scenario months back.

I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, there's also quite a bit of chat going on in back channels (email etc) so I think it's all getting a bit tough... everyone buy Smithy a beer and I'm sure he'll cheer up.

I know the system is bare-bones, and that was always the intention. I'd prefer to do 80% of the functionality and do it right (i.e fast and reliable) and then work on the rest. It'll dribble in over the next little while. There will also likely be fuckups - like the now-infamous 5 year posts. I apologize in advance for those, and hope I can make it up to y'all by being available for little tweaks and things you want.

(And I just realised nested quotes are broken by doing this, fuck)

Yep, understand the frustration - and it's completely understandable for Smithy to be a little frustrated too, so I think perhaps let's just back off the ad hominem a little and try to get somewhere constructive. Otherwise, I did build Bans ;)

I'm happy to work with you to improve stuff that's hard to understand or outright broken, perhaps just throw in a couple :) faces so we can see you're trying to help out.

What's wrong with the contact form? It's not going? Can you give me a screen shot at all? We've come to far to go back to the old site now, so the best thing to do is let me know what you miss and I'll try to get that in amongst my own day job :)

I also noticed that if the new post is the last one on the page, it advances you to another page with no posts on.

With the issue I mentioned with the previewing, I opened up the website in Chrome and did a preview with that. That worked the first time, but now it is just showing that same post rather than the one I mentioned earlier. I tried with IE, Firefox and Chrome and on different computers but I am still get that post showing.

But these are just minor issues really.

Maybe a little harsh from me, but the point is still there - be nice, we are trying hard.

YF dominates my life, but I believe in it, so I keep boxing away. That does mean I take things a bit personally from time to time.

Mind your manners, and remember that we all want to get this thing going right. We are all in this.

 interestingly (or not) the quoting actually works now where on the old site it came up with;

//quote// so and so said at 10:42, MUFC bought more titles than any other club etc..//quote//  (or some such)

so I didn't bother with that function because it looked messy and other uses complained, "why can't you quote properly?".

Some of these may have already been mentioned:

In the active topics page:

  • can it be ordered by most recent comment and not have stickied  topics above non-stickied.
  • is it possible to indicate which thread the topic is from - so I can ignore topics from the trophy manager thread :P
  • have at least 'last page' as an option for each topic
All new posts since your last visits labelled 'new' in each thread.

Yeah,I'm sure the old active topics (sorry to compare) had threads under forum category. It was pretty useful. Obviously can do easily without so will be way way down on any priority list. Just thought I'd add it.
