Need to post names and pictures of the wankers who ripped us (the YF) off.

So the lads can have a chat.

I haven't had any problems using either Chrome or Safari on iOS (I'm typing this on an iPad right now).

Yeah, I'm a masochist so decided to code my own. Does leave us with a significant Big Red Bus problem but I'll make sure I look both ways crossing Wills St.
For anyone who's interested, it's a Rails 3.1 app running on top of MySQL. We're on a 2GB VPS with OpenHost (thanks Tyson), and I'm using memcached pretty heavily plus a decent amount of database tuning so we're using all 2GB :)

Woo, go Rails. Awesome stuff Nik! Good work Smithy with the organisation of the Site/emails etc

Edit: This was a good 700th post

Had the same thing today - couldn't type on my phone (Chrome on Android) for some reason.

...and just remembered what I intended on posting.

Have found this week I can't embed links or post photos when posting in forums on my laptop whereas I could do that fine previously.

Is this because they've made changes to the site since last week?

Also funny symbols creep in when you post things (and are appearing in old posts) like this:

Yes he did. It was after Leo beat his man down the wing and put in a beautiful cross.

Yeah, active topics was a tough one that I went back and forth on a few times. Because I automatically remember people with a cookie it's tough to define "when you last visited" - if it was the last page you viewed (which is what I'm storing now) then you're only going to get new posts in the last couple of seconds - not massively useful.
I could do something like "the start of the last day on which you visited" - would that make sense? The clearer I understand, the better I can make it :D
That would work well, I could never quite work out how the old site worked out what time to use. It seemed to be a bit inconsistant as well, sometimes it would work, but other times it wouldn't. I think it may have worked out when the user was in a viewing session, and while they were still in that session, it showed posts since the start of the session, but if they left and came back, it would show posts since the end of the earlier session. This seems way too complicated, so having something like you suggest above would be nice.

quote=Smithy]

What would the difference be?
I used to only use Active Topics on the old (Cakes) site, and I can't work out what the benefit would be of being able to select a time period? Surely you only scroll down as far as you want to?
Sorry, I only added the selecting a time period to my post to try to explain how the old page worked, rather than suggesting that it be added to Siggy.

I think most people care about what threads have new posts on, rather than if they have been active recently. Just replacing the active topics page with one that only shows threads with new posts would work.

There used to be a locked thread about rules for the forum and FAQs about YF, fever zone etc.

I suppose it was a bit superfluous because no one read it and instead there were various new threads created about where was the zone, when did shirts and pants come off, etc etc.

Works fine on my iPad. What iOS do you have? Could that be the issue?

I love the slimmed down look, much more comfortable like the new Google designs. Plus doesn't seem to have RSS for the categories which means I can get off my lazy ass, stop using Google Reader and actually contribute.

This makes a lot more sense that what I was thinking. We would need a way to quickly mark all threads as read though. It's possibly a lot easier to implement too, which will make Nik's life easier :).

Not a real problem but the names of tabs are no longer the names of the threads, can we fix that?

I mean when I open the "new forums" or "phoenix transfer speculation" thread in a new tab its called "yellow fever forums" instead of "new forums" or "phoenix transfer speculation". (have tried this in Chrome and FireFox)

I don't know about you guys but I browse with like 20 tabs so I like this feature.

Hopefully I made that almost painfully clear.

Take your time with that one and thanks for the new site. Looking forward to full functionality.

Keep up the good work.

Where were they previously?

They were a sub-forum in the "English (and other british lower league) Football Discussion" section

Loving the new forum - especially compared to the last version!

Found a couple of problems however. Am using Mozilla Firefox

1) Thread headers don't seem to be able to be changed any more even if you're the one who started the thread.

2) Can't seem to get a clickable link to come up in the messages using the 'link' button.

Another little thing: Can we add players names and any other important pro-nouns and unwords to the forum spell checker dictionary. (If this is actually a browser function please ignore this request but let me know and I'll add them to the dictionary myself somehow.)

Again no hurry but it will get annoying being told that we are spelling Ifill, Greenacre and Lia wrong all season.

Cheers, keep up the good work.

Are you putting something in both the URL and Text boxes? When I don't put anything in the Text box it doesn't work for me, but if it has something in both it does.

Another minor bug that has been happening for a while now is I click on the "new post" link and get taken to a blank topic page with no posts, I presume this is the beginning of the next page which has no posts in it yet.

That seems to happens when the new post is the last post, on the previous page. I have mentioned it, along with the problem that when you have a number of new posts that bridge pages, it goes to the newest page rather than the first new post on the previous page.

Arsenal sub-forum?

Permalink Permalink
Found another issue. On each post it has a linked number at the top right corner. That has a mistake in the link.

ie The link to Arsenal's post above is this (from the last post link on the main forum page)

http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/wellington-phoenix-discussion/topics/new-forums?page=8#post_792638

but if you click the #148 it takes you to this link

http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/wellington-phoenix-discussion/topics/new-forums#post_792638

which lands you back at the first page.

Hopefully welnik can work out what I mean from that.

Another small thing:

Not even really a bug, but when someone edits a post it adds how long ago it was edited "tegal edited this post 2 minutes ago"

however if a post is edited more than once, it shows every time that it was edited. Think it'd be better if it only showed the last time, rather than cluttering the post up with every edit.

Hey all - thanks for the bug reports, I'll get there.

Another feature that needs to be added is the option for Polls on new topics. It needs to allow for 14 options, so they can be used for the motm threads once the season starts.

I miss looking up random posts with 'poo' in them.
