Helloooooo Ben Sigmund?

He's got to be big chance at coming into the squad, but what about a right back?

Whose out there?

Lets start the rumour mill...... i also though perhaps Emblem at cb, maybe slow, but he's definately got the xperience, skill etc.

For about the 800th time, Sigmund can't come into the squad. We can't sign him. Something about playing for two different clubs in one calendar year. Ask Dr Quack, he knows about these things!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Other than Auckland City whose he been playing for? I didn't realise amatuer clubs counted aswell?

Can he fill a guest role, doesn't officially sign?

That'd be the same for emblem then aswell because he played in the regional comp.

Sigmund played in the Victorian Premier League so therefore has made an international transfer to New Zealand for the NZFC.  To move to the Phoenix he would have to transfer again.

I'm not certain but that 'could' cause an issue.  I say 'could' as Dean Grdon made about 3 last year.

HN, have you got the Ban Stick on standby? This thread might provide you with some target practice

Jag... here is our first volunteer...

f**k no.  The reason he is available is because he has an ego way beyond his playing level.  He's the last sort of player a side like the Phoenix needs in the squad.

After watching Hard News at Newtown Indoor Football, I feel he is the solution to our defensive woes.

Is there a chance the Phoenix could strike a FM 2008-esque feeder club deal with a larger club overseas? I know it didn't work with previous New Zealand clubs with Charlton Athletic and Chelsea, but WPFC is much more professionally run now. Viable?

There have been quite a number of those over the years and no club on this side of the world has got a thing out of it.

The other option is a loan player like Bridges.

That's right, if you're a young player on the books of a premiership club you'd much rather go down the road to league 1 or the championship where you are still in the public eye, the assistant manager can go and watch you play etc etc.  I'm sure most of them see the A-League as out of sight, out of mind...

Coudl we turn Ross Aloisi into a Centre Half to free up the Midfield for Tim Brown and Richard Johnson???

Robbie Hunter.

Quality specialist right back for Hawkes Bay United. NCR Under 19 player of the season two seasons running. Allround quality. Classy vision and a cool-head for someone so young. I'm pretty sure he is the perfect choice to step up and free Christie up for a midfield role. Do it Ricki. Sign him up. You won't.

Please no more talk about Emblem. He seems a nice guy and all that but this league is now faster, and he was too slow then.

Would rather stick with Old.

Or bring Noah Hickey back out of his "retirement", he has the legs, but I suspect he and the boss are not pals

How about Darren Bazeley, I'm sure he could get up a head of steam in his wheelchair on the right side, until we get a long term solution?

Its a shame Sigmund can't sign, he would be a good signing. What about John Tambouras?? He would fit in perfectly. It will be interesting to see if the Phoenix look for a right back to cover Christie.

It's great to see another Northland Taniwha on the forum...

The problem with many of the NZFC options is that they would have to be iwlling tto walk out on an NZFC job, and probably a full time job alongside that for a deal that may only be two months.

I just can't see that appealing to many of them (the likes of Bazeley and Emblen come to mind).

Cancer.  Don't touch.

Jack Pelter, not even getting in the reserves at Sunderland (who are using kids rather than giving game time to older players), and/or Stan Varga (iif you're not tired of watching big slow moving central defenders thumping the ball - and the strikers-  up a height)

Whoever they bring in, I hope that they have pace to go with the necessary technical attributes needed.

Article Five, Paragraph Three of Fifa's regulations stipulates that while players can be registered for a maximum of three clubs from July 1 until June 30 the following year, they are eligible to play for only two in that time

Sorry 'Ard News, but Bazeley went to pot halfway through the season, unlike Emblem who just got better & better, certainly under Rikki H. I think he would certainly fiit in well with the current squad.

I'm not suggesting we sign either of them, just explaining why I think it unlikely that they would sign.

Dean Gordon managed it last year (Albany, Auckland City and the Knights(I think)), and Australia just ignore the rule altogether plus you have the whole Tevez/Mascherano.  It's not that hard and fast...

please no bazely, or any other ageing knight for that matter. altho embers could still compete at this level i think we need someone for the next two seasons than can built a solid partnership with dodd. Tambouras is ok, equal ability to o'dor though.
I'd look abroad to find someone who is strong on the ball and can communicate to the whole defensive line, Dodd tries but i dont think he is a natural d-line leader really.

Nick ward would be an amazing signing. he was so good in version 1 of the a-league, left after that then everyone forgot about him, didnt he win the a-league young player of the year award or something in version 1? I guess we do have enough midfielders, but when aloisi retires and brown takes over the captaincy Nicky ward would be a perfect player to have.

Shame about sigmund, but we have two import places open now so why not get quality??

Add, St. Albans and Torquay (or at least one of those two) to Gordon's list.

Jonas Salley played for the Knights, Sydney FC, and Sunshine George Cross... although there were no international transfers in that.

Mmm i wonder if elrichs salary would be met by George and Clebersons. So we can put him under the cap then get a marquee defender.

I hope they sign a fullback or 2 before the Sydney game. With the All Whites out of the line-up, only 14 odd players to pick from. Ferrante and Aloisi as  fullbacks is a scary thougth. Spoonley in goal is another big question mark, as surely Moss will be in the ALL WHITES, Paston the back-up.

Correct.
As of July 1st, he was signed and played in the Vic League. He then has to transfer back to ACFC, whom he played for last week. If he signs for the Phoenix thats his 3rd team, but he has played for two others already. That being said, it is all a bit strange that Dean Gordon and Kris Bright did it (Waitakere City, Waitakere United and then the Knights)

Can you change who your delegated Marquee player is?? You might still be able to then sign a defender as a Marquee player if you are allowed but then I would think the other defender would get a pitance of a salary if you got Elrichs under the cap meaning you wouldn't get much for what you had left over I would think.

(a)  I don't see us getting Elrich under the cap

(b)  I doubt you'd be able to change your marquee mid season, that's the point of a marquee isn't it?

Could we still sign someone as a seven week guest outside the cap?  That may be a good idea to get someone of quality.  Hmm, it would be so much easier to speculate if they'd just disclose the salaries

We could probably do with only one extra player, so long as he could cover both CB and RB.  The only week we'd struggle is when the AWs are away

I think Feverish may be on the right track (though it disturbs me to say it).  If there isn't an obvious replacement lined up, then Wayne O'Sullivan will probably be registered as cover, certainly for the Sydney game.
