I think we can all agree this season is down the toilet
Still only one point off the six (pending other results). If (and it's a big if) we can string three wins together against Adelaide Jets and Heart, we can still make the playoffs. Hence #dontstopbelievin, we won't win the playoffs, but let's at least aim to make them.
Are you serious im as dedicated to the Phoenix as some others but NO way do we deserve to be in the play offs and frankly to even talk about them after such a pathetic performance is bloody ridiculous.I doubt there would be hardly anybody in our team who would get a start in another A league team .As long as we continue to recruit everyone elses cast offs and others who just arnt up to A league standard we will continue to fall be hind while the others just get better.

Bloody disgusted at presant but will still be there next home game.

The rot is deep. It's not just the players (don't seem to care), the coach (out of ideas), or the management structure (mixed messages, bumbling in the media). This whole club is dysfunctional and what's worse is no one involved is willing to admit it. It's like Blackburn after Venkys took over :(

And I appreciate people trying to stay positive and the don't stop believing hashtag and all that but unless there are massive changes to this club between now and next season kicking off this is just going to happen again.

Our imports are not good enough. We've signed aging players to long contracts so we're stuck with them. We have a coach who persists with his core players regardless of how poorly they perform and seems out of ideas for how to change the club. We have no one in the club managing the club's media image so we look like a laughing stock to the general public. Our much hyped academy kids have looked woeful against the ASBP sides. Our assistant coach has no coaching experience at all. Our players seem horribly unfit despite the fact fitness is probably the easiest attribute to develop - definitely more so than skill or tactical knowledge. We are no longer confident of points at home and we haven't fixed our travelling issues. Our best player from the last few seasons looks like he's just given up. We signed a player with a great football pedigree from Europe (for the HAL) and forced him to try and do something he's clearly  not used to and destroyed his confidence in the process.

Yes, this is a negative list but before anyone says anything about staying positive - our last 4 games we've conceded 13 goals and scored 3, and two of those games were against teams next to us at the bottom of the table.

You have summed it up nicely. Another tough game comming up against Brisbane who we will make look like world beaters. I can't see how the rest of the season is going to get any better.

Very good post. What the club really needs to turn things around is a big clean-out, but in a salary-capped league that's not an easy (or a wise) thing to do.
Things could well end up even bleaker yet.

Its going to be a roller coaster to the end of the season - possible upsets but also possible disasters. We have to chase wins to have any hope of getting into the playoffs - that will be high risk. I think there was an element of that in todays' result once we got a couple down - basically everyone had to push up which exposed all the weaknesses. Most of all our regular soft losses of possession while trying to play catchup against a team like CCM meant a blowout was always possible. That is the hardest part - we just kept giving the ball away and losing most of the contested balls. Players have to take the responsibility for basics like that.

Hi Ricki

Lol

All translated our passing was abysmal and our ability to hold onto possession moving forward practically non-existent. We can blame Ricki for tactics (?), structure (??), game-plan (???) etc but every player should have those basics whoever is coach is.

Yeah im getting pissed off at this 'we need to stay positive' BS. How do we stay positive? The longer we pretend to stay positive the longer the club will deny any problems and continue to dodge accountability. Its insulting, to be a season ticket holder and be called pathetic and selfish by the owners. Im sad :(

1] Hogg was abandoned for most of the game. He was getting skinned and had no help.

2] WTF is Paston up to? Yet again, the big welly up the field and giving the ball away so the 6'4 defenders could out jump our 5'6 strikers. We just gift the opposition possession every friggen time. Also as  our goalkeeper it is his job to keep the defenders informed of what is going on behind their backs. Over the last few games Siggy and Durante seem to be having a go at Paston for not telling them where the opposition players are behind them.

3] We don't ever play the long ball - yeah right. Why are we persisting in big 50 yard lobs all the friggen time? We have no height so keep the friggen ball on the ground. What is wrong with short passing? Last night we spent most of the game passing the ball straight to the opposition. CCM must have been laughing in their dressing room.

4] WTF Ifill? You didn't chase the passes that you could have gotten too - even with your slow legs. Yet, you ran your arse off to go after definate lost causes?? Is it time to call it a day? I fear the legs have gone.

5] STOP Playing route 1 football.

6] HAVE a plan "B"!!

7] STOP Playing route 1 football.

8] Have more passing at practices.

9] HAVE a plan "B" !

Sure we all moan and bitch about the team, selections, lack of tactics, but those very same people on here that do that, also show up at most every home game. We're a fickle bunch but also a loyal bunch. The Phoenix should feel priveleged to have such a hard core group.

I am not holding my breath. If for any weird reason the team plays amazing football next week then - while I'd be delighted - I'd be left with a suspicion "wtf happened for the last coupla months". So while it'll pain me to see them play the same rubbish next week, at least it will confirm the well-established laws of physics, psychology and economics that seem to be at play here.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I'm not usre if that's sarcasm or for real?

Well, it was my favourite, but not for good reasons.

Surely the players need to take responsability for their own actions and choices. They are professional players after all. They really should know most of the time what is happening, unless of course they are ball watching.

Was it Paston's fault that Hogg continually gave Ibini 3 yards of space allowing his to deliver cross with ease.

Was it Paston's fault that Lia watch players run past him all night without tracking or making a tackle?

Was it Paston's fault that Manny couldn't make a tackle?

Was it Paston's fault that Boxall refused to close down any striker all night?

Was it Paston's fault that our midfield couldn't string 3 passes together all night, putting us underpressure regularly?

You are just using Paston as a scape goat. Sure his distribution was honking tonight, but our issues are far wider than 'communication at the back'

Plus we all know Paston is a better organiser than Moss. #feverinjoke

I can't believe the free ride Hogg seems to be getting here.  I know we were all awful, but if that was Lochhead out there the forums would have fallen over with the outpouring of hate.

At this point, although I do think Ricki is not the issue, I can't object to the calls. BUT given the pretty clearly low budget that Welnix likely will pay given their breakeven aim, you can write off any international coach of any pedigree coming out here, and of those from Aus available, who would you want to hire?  Most of those calling for him to go are also on the 'must play pretty football bandwagon' and while Merrick and Kossie are performance wise fine options given their history, orchestrators of tiki-taka they are not.

I am sick of Paston getting criticised for not passing it out from the back aswell - what is the point, it makes no difference to me whether the ball is lumped forward by Paston or by the defence, either way our midfield is not capable of receiving and distributing it out.

I have watched Paston since he first played for Napier City Rovers in the 1990's and as a young player back then I was impressed with his 'keeping.
Your comments have hit the nail on the head. Sure he has made mistakes but people always seem to bag him when we lose although he probably saved  4/5 shots that would have gone in.
I think Moss is a good keeper but I would still pick  Paston ahead of him.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Why all the negative posts, is not one of the colours the phoenix play in yellow and sometime they also play in white?
So why is everyone so negative in the way the played last night after all, it was only one or three that had a bad game by passing to a
player in white. The rest had a good game, they found a player in yellow and presented him with the perfect ball.

Shame Wellnix did not do due diligence on RH before rushing in and presenting him with a contract. His record even at that stage showed that he would not have lasted at any other pro club.

Maybe it is time for Wellnix to start talking to the players to find out what the problems are, but that may just be a waste of time. I can’t see any of the AW’s having a bad word to say about RH as this would jeopardise them from being picked for the WC qualification matches.

I don’t believe that RH will fall on his sword, to me it looks like RH knows he has no show of getting an other A league position,
therefore he will hang in until he is removed.

Time will tell if the Nix will go the way of the last two NZ clubs, it will all come down to who they sign for next season. If the likes of Lia, Paston ect get a contract, the writing is on the wall for crowds of 2 horses and a donkey plus the fools who would pay good money to watch the crap that is being dished up this year.

I wouldn't mind so much about Paston's shit distribution if he at least kept the ball in play. Kicking or throwing it straight out-WTF?

What a Drama !!!  Then again, i may be blowing smoke, so I'll see you at the next home game, no drama.
