lord

and what's with the goober in the background

walking around in the gym (is it a gym)

with his jeans, jacket, pretending he's expecting a call on his cell phone

I hope he is not employed by the nIx

Looks like a photo shoot to me. And that's perfectly acceptable attire and behaviour.

he is possibly the most normal-looking person i have ever seen in Nix-related media

Now with the European transfer window closed, it may be clearer who our targets could be.

Yeah, lot of players have been released today. Wouldn't mind Shinji Okazaki or Jonathas

If there is any truth to the english striker mentioned, then Gary Hooper is still without a club.

Most leagues still allow unattached players to sign with new clubs past the transfer window, I'm not sure how long that is and if that is dependent league to league, and there are also other restrictions like clubs having to name a squad at the end of the window and free agents signed after can only be added to the squad if they are under a certain age or if the club has not named a full squad.

So we don't have the pool of free agents all to ourselves - but does narrow down options a little.

Okazaki; Would never happen, but would be brilliant.

What's all this transfer speculation doing in the Stensness and teaser video thread?

Okazaki has signed in Spain, otherwise surely a lock ;)

He signed for a club and they had to release him cuz of salary cap issues. Or has he signed for another club?

Nope, he's still a free agent currently, pretty sure it only happened this morning that he left Malaga. Makes Jai Ingham's few months at the mariners before junping ship to the roar seem a lifetime in comparison

getting a bit lonely in this thread, might throw a couple more big but attainable names out there: Jeremy Menez, Bobo, Modibo Maiga, Leroy George, Emmanuel Riviere, Jonathan Biabiany, Pawel Wszolek

I'd genuinely forgotten about Jeremy Menez, the dude was an absolute baller at Milan and Roma. Would definitely be a fantastic pick up for any A League side

Menez will never happen, but of names that have been thrown around before, currently both Oba Martin and Giuseppe Rossi are still free agents.

I wouldn't take either to be honest. Martins a year or so ago, I'd taken a punt on, but I wouldn't now.

Pawel Wszolek would be a good signing. scored a couple of goals at QPR but was played out of position for most of his time there. Everyone could see he had the ability but it was never utilized by the coach there at the time - McLaren.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Okazaki has the same agent as Steinmann so maybe not as far-fetched as it first seems

Another, more realistic option might be Benjamin Moukandjo - only 30yo, played 57 times for Cameroon. Had a decent career in France then has been in China but is now without a club

"Pawel Wszolek has revealed that he rejected a move to Italy last summer despite his future hanging in the balance. The Poland international is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but made the decision to stay with Queens Park Rangers instead of moving to the Italian top flight.  Speaking to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy , Wszolek said: "Last summer I was close to move to Serie A, but I decided to stay."

I understand he is on something like USD1.3M so I am not surprised he is keen to extend his stay.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Rubbish attitude tho

If we are going to recycle old A-Leaguers* then I think the following are free agents:

Baba Diawara

Berisha

Bobo

Jair

(plus Burnsy and Blake Powell)

* Personally, I would not

Can Nix afford Berisha?

This could be scraping the barrel, but I wonder if Steven Taylor has Xisco's phone number?

I think out of those only Bobo and and Berisha would be considered by A-League clubs. Jair showed fudge all and Diawara was constantly injured regardless of how talented he was. Bobo would be probably be too expensive for us and half the other teams in the league. Berisha might get picked up but only as a good depth player off the bench. Given the emphasis on youth I think we'd all rather see McCowatt and Waine getting those type of minutes

With the team off to Sydney for a 10 day camp, its looking unlikely that there will be another signing announcement for a while.

When they get back the U23 players will be off for Olympic qualifying campaign.

They've offered him marquee contracts before.

He would be a fantastic pick-up.

He's definitely a polarising figure, but hey, we signed Joel Griffiths before, so...

Any whilst we do have this supposed no c*cks policy in place - there are some players out there who are major c*cks - but who don't create a negative environment in the changing room - eg, they're mainly c*cks to the opposition.

What you don't want are primadonnas who are going to spoil the culture for everyone at the club.

I honestly dunno about that. Near the end of the Victory stint he looked very much on the decline, now he is 34 and hasn't scored a goal in 18 months

I don't think Berisha would have missed a pen against the Strikers unlike someone we know.

When the team under Rudan had a similar pre season camp last year (Gold Coast?), weren't a few Aussies actually trialling with the Nix at the same time?

Mandi joined the team over there, was 'an unnamed Spanish tralist' and was then signed on. So something similar could happen again.
