I can't see us being that close to the cap based on the players we have and the gaps in our squad still. I also can't see Lewis costing much

Who says our budget is the cap? I'm inclined to agree, but being the first year of a rebuild maybe we're not keen to spend a ton out of the gate.

Looking at our current squad the budget is clearly way below cap.

Well there is the salary cap floor too, so we won't be way below the cap as that's contrary to the league regulations.

We still could be under the minimum at the moment if we're confident we'll sign an expensive striker before the season starts

Well, yes, but the point is that our budget can't be way below the salary floor because of the league regulations.

There you go with your logical arguments again...

There's no evidence that we're being cheap, we're using our full overseas quota and the foreigners we've hired all have a good pedigree. While we're signing a lot of unproven players in the A-League there's just not many good proven and performing Ausies on the market right now.

If the Phoenix do end up being under the cap then that's not necessarily a bad thing in a rebuild year as you can allocate the cap that you saved to the following year and increase the cap temporarily.

I don't really understand why we wouldn't get Lewis if we can get on a loan deal or free. We've got Davila, Piscopo and Devlin in the CAM area so would be good depth and I'd put him ahead of Devlin in the pecking order and he can play in CM role too so if we change formations he can play in different roles. We'll have 3 spots left to fill after an import ST can't see the harm in having more depth in the squad and it'd be unlikely we'd sign 3 players in January.

Maybe comes down to the remaining budget available, there might not be the cash for both players.

I'd rather pay what we need for the right striker first and then approach Scun thorpe/Lewis if there's enough left. No point hamstringing ourselves signing someone in a position we don't urgently need if its gonna take away from our ability to sign the striker we do need - wants come after needs. But I don't know what wiggle room is left in the budget, so just speculating.

On the other hand Clayton seems to be in form now and is a known quantity.

Logan Rogerson??

- a free agent - 2 goals in 10 games across two seasons of A-League - doesn't take an import spot

- squaddie as a back up for injury to forwards

- did leave when contract offer dried up - but has more A-League experience than some.

Rogerson has looked good at u23 level... why not, worked out with Rufer.

I like Logerson. I think he would be a handy pick up. But he is more of a wide player, and in a similar boat to Lewis, he would be nice to have, but not what we need.

By all accounts Rogerson is signing/has signed with Auckland City.

No, but close according to interpretation of this Nostradamic quatrain.

Forward, back to where the young Phoenix rose

Returned from the amazon battle

But his rule and stay will be of short duration

Transferred out to the Spanish realm

Is this a long way of saying we're getting a Brazilian who's been plying his trade in Spain?

I wonder if we will be signing a free agent or loaning someone/someone gets released to sign for us so not so easy to scroll through transfermarkt.

In saying that, this guy is available: Bubacarr Trawally

Good age, decent scoring record and I assume coming from The Gambia, speaks English.

A game they deserved to win. That sub should have received his 2nd yellow and he scored the winner.

It seems we are all putting a lot of stock in the last Visa player - presumably a striker/forward

- I guess that is the Krishna effect - he did score a bucket load last year and got us dreaming.

However, if he had been injured halfway through the season - would we have finished 8th/10th? Or would the team have rallied?

What if this onion bag bulger also gets injured? Season over?

Seems like the Nix need to be more of a team than a golden boot for hire and his extras.
