Clearly a dive Denis.  As he ran past he kicked Paston then chucked himself to the ground.

Not a replay as such, but 1 hour highlights on sky sport 3 tomorrow at 1:30pm.  Also on the highlights channel 33 every 3 hours or so

agreed, the contact was so small that a toddler would have walked past and scored.

Same sentiments as most of you - awful game but great result. I'll sure as hell take it - too many times we've played 'more' football but been sold short at the end of the 90 minutes.

Most A-League teams are often happy to sit on one-goal leads and back themselves to defend it. We tend to do that better than most.

Makes scoring that first goal all so important!

It's been going since about Round 5. It's great, I have it open on the laptop beside me as I am watching A-League games, it can be very interesting seeing the possesion and time in opp half stats change over the course of a game.

Commentators said that was Ifills first headed goal this season. I can't remember him scoring many headers at all. Surely he has. I imagine someone else has a better memory than me.

Ifill said in the post-match interview that it was his first header in 2.5 years, which is exactly how long he has been with us.

watching the 25 min highlights on SS Highlights this morning, don't know what numptie put the highlights package together, but didn't include the incident for Sydney's penalty claim. 2nd biggest talking point of the game after the goal I would've thought!

The fan favourite scored the first of his 26 goals for the club with a header against Perth in August 2009 but since then has been known for his golden boots, so he wheeled away from the goalmouth tapping his forehead in disbelief - a teammate even kissed it.

LoL at Michael Ferrante.

Also the last time Leo Bertos actually hit a free kick on target.

After having a day to think over it, it appears the overwhelming majority believe it's a clear penalty. Including a Mariner.

I still haven't seen the replay but maintain it was not a penalty but neither was it a dive.

Dive.......penalty law needs review if that was given as he had pushed the ball way forward out of control and it was going away from goal and out..it would be a travesty if all u had to do to get a penalty was go down in the box without consideration of was it a scoring chance.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

This is really more to do with whether there's a DOGSO involved (and thereby warranting a red card) rather than with a decision to award a penalty kick.

The laws are quite clear that if the ball is in play, and an attacking player is fouled in the opposition's box, then a penalty kick has to be awarded.

Yeah Im aware of law but it always frustates me when players not in a scoring position and who have lost the ball can still go down and get penalty.  Methinks it could be more akin to say a penalty try situation in rugby...

You could argue that defenders then shouldn't really be fouling players who aren't in a position to seriously endanger their goal.

That season's recruiting was FANTASTIC!
Ifill, Greeny, McKain, Durante and even Diego was a decent acquistion at the time, although he never showed us his best. SigmUnd stepped up that year and I think we also signed Rojas that season.

He was already halfway to hitting the ground before the supposed 'contact' happened.

Left his leg in waiting for the contact, starting falling expecting the contact, never happened, got a card.

Same old aussies...

That was the first game I took my eldest boy to. Back when Bertos ran at players, got into the box, and could put a cross past the first defender.

Ah the good old days..

Finally saw the penalty claim incident on tonight's highlights. Definitely a dive, he's played the ball too long and is already going down before any contact from Paston.
Not sure what Slater is getting at with his comment "there's the contact from paston, he hits the trailing leg, definitely a penalty", Paston's knee brushes the trailing leg, no trip, no kick ergo no foul and no penalty

If you watch the replay you will see that Chianese trails one foot behind him hoping to "catch" it on the keeper's body. This is something I have seen on English football as well (Adam Johnson for Man City) and it is obvious they are being coached to do it.
Who would be a refeee when everyone is cheating?

if the refs are aware of what's happening - like they should be, then they keep yellow carding players for diving and it will eventually stop.
