From memory we kept up with Brisneyland Raw last season over there for about 80mins or so then conceded 2 quick goals.

If our back four are up to it and dont get sent off we can hold them off and hopefully nick a late goal!

I'd just add that - despite the result - I'm not scared of Griffiths as cover.  Thought he showed enough promise that we don't need to make a rush signing for backline cover.

How's my driving? - Whine here
Tsattalios is rubbish
Wow give the guy a break. I dont know what you have been watching but when he came in for Manny I thought he performed very well. The kid appears to have plenty of pace and good technical ability. He is a player that shows plenty of promise for me. Would be interesting to see how he would go if he were thrown into the Brisbane Roar team. He reminds me very much of what Kosta Barbarouses was like at the nix.

Hes had a chance in the A-League before but was discarded. Nobody wanted him, the only reason hes on our books was because we were on an extreme budget/desperate.

Harsh.

Alex Smith was given an opportunity at an A-League club and was unwanted.

Is he rubbish too?

Don't want to be overly critical of the guy, he's young and he's only played one full game for us, but I'm far from convinced about him as a right fullback.

Against Victory he practically had nothing to do in the first half until the last couple of minutes, and then got beaten twice for a goal and another excellent goal-scoring opportunity. In the second half Marco breezed past him at will, which led to at least two more good opportunities for Victory - so in a game in which we were fairly dominant and he hadn't had a lot of defending to do, 4 very good chances (one of which was scored from) from Melbourne came because he individually was beaten. I don't really want to think what would happen in a game in which he's called to defend for a significant period of time.el grapadura2011-11-07 11:17:30

Tsattalios had a gig week to week, Smith didnt. Completely different kettle of fish

Tsats is a promising young player but he is no right back. He showed against Victory that he is very left footed. He is fine as a squad player backing up Lockie but at this stage he is not a first 11 starter of A-League level IMO.
The fact that he came on against CCM as an impact player replacing Daniel shows how weak our squad is. A couple of years ago Daniel could not even make the bench and we had an excellent player like Adrian Caceras as our impact guy off the bench. Now Daniel is the main man and a kid like Tsats is meant to change the game. Shows how far back we have gone.

First goal was an unlucky deflection, and the second was scored because we were pushing up searching for an equaliser. Ricki got his tactics exactly right in that game, and was one of the first managers to do that. Hopefully he can do it again.

Thats true. As Rickie showed at the WC, he is a manager who can coach a weaker team to hold out defensively against a superior attacking team. Also we do tend to have a bruising defensive side who often  push the limit physically. We are probably one the more robust defensive sides in the League.

Yes. He's just slightly less rubbish than our other options.

Still kinda baffled that we signed an AM/Striker and he's ended up playing DM for us but there you go.

I agree Ward should start for sure. Plays better from the outset. Brown to the bench.

I in no way think that Brown should start on the bench behind ward.

I'm picking nix to get a point out of it and we all spend the following week why we couldn't have played like that for the previous 2 or 3 weeks.

1 important factor missing here...RYAN NELSEN. he is the reason our defense was so organised at the World Cup

Well there is Ricki's answer. Sign Ryan Nelsen and all his problems will be solved.

how good would that be!!!

if only.

anyway, i think brisbane will win 3 or 4 nil. the nix will play their hearts out, but brissy a bit too quick and skillful.

surprisingly, I dont hate brisbane for being so good. probably cos they gave Kosta a chance

We might be able to steal a point from this game...that's only if we can field 11 players on field...

But surely and painfully again, Brown, Bertos and Daniel will all start for us...that's 3 key midfielders. Arguably the most important 3 players on the field for any team, LM, RM and CM...right at the centre of the formation and the link between defenders and strikers...

Brown: counts a guarranteed 0 nowadays
Bertos: counts a guaranteed 0.5 well past his time
Daniel: very inconsistent between 0 to 1

So on a good day we'll play with 9.5 men, and 8.5 on a bad day....

That's why we'll again play like we have no midfield at all and send long balls forward hoping for a miracle from Greenie...

I really hope they prove me wrong and actually pass the ball around a bit more. i want to see a different way of playing than last weekend.

Play with 9 men, it worked for Melbourne and makes our thin squad less of an issue.
Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
That's actually genius- we could start with 9 then bring on 2 around the 35 minute mark...would give us the illusion of meaningful subs...

His header was almost brilliant.

Let him womble about up and yell at those young whipper-snappers as they run circles around him.

I'm a pessimist on this one personally - but hope to be wrong!
Anyhow I would consider the following:

a) Nix not showing up to the game therefore only losing 2-0 (?) a very respectable score.
b) fielding an inelegible player e.g.YF's Greenie and blame it on the similairity in nickname with UK Greenie.
c) Beating the Roar

Not sure which option would be more likely to happen

The way we played...i wouldn't call Daniel and Bertos "wingers", they were right & left midfielders...otherwise Greenie wouldn't be so lonely upfront.  We play traditional 4-5-1 with 2 CMs...

Even if these two were "wingers" i doubt they'll be anymore against Brisbane...

I think they key thing to beating Brisbane roar is Breaking a few of their players legs whilst trying not to get red carded.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.
