We should've won the first game against them but they were by far the better team in our 2nd 1-1 draw.

[QUOTE=bigtobz]

I'd see the 4-3-3 as a bit more attacking, in that we are only playing one more-defensive midfielder than the two we play in a 4-4-2.

So the 4-3-3 is more attacking than the 4-4-2 even though we are playing with an extra DM?

If you want to split fine hairs we'll call it 4-1-2-3.
Or even 4-1-2-2-1. I wasn't comparing the numbers, I was comparing the way the formations would play- Manny clearing up behind Vinnie and Timmy, which is how I've seen it in the last game atleast.

Presumably the one DM in Manny enables Timbo and Vincent to be less defensive, therefore a more attacking formation.

Oh whoops- I meant one midfielder (manny) playing a more defensive role- as opposed to the two that we have seen over the rest of the season (vinnie/tim- who can now push further  forward).

My God, "Don't wear your colours in our boozer or we'll bottle you", "wear a jacket over your shirt and keep your head down and be respectful and you'll be ok" who the f**k do they think they are, the Green Street Hooligans?

I think it's one of the great things about the Phoenix fan base that visiting fans are actively encouraged at the Bencher pre-game or at the Kings post-game.

It makes the fans head home talking of how great a time they had and why we see numbers from the likes of Sydney grow each year.

Lets just say that a few Roar fans decided to sing and chant and generally take the piss in our own boozer, not real smart so we advised them nicely that it would be a good time to leave before anyone took offence.

Those bastards how dare they! "before anyone took offence" and started a full scale brawl hooligan styles (i saw it on a movie once) - NQF supporter.

Lol, reading further and enjoyed this one too "As mentioned by several other people the only reason that the "colours" thing was mentioned is that some nobs from the Roar took liberties earlier in the year."
(the liberties being wearing their Roar tops and starting a Roar chant)

haha, and this "Whether you still want to come to the pub or not is up to you - we've advised you that we'd prefer it if you didn't display your colours so its your call"

and they keep saying things like "respect us on our patch"

Love one of the perth guys:
hoooo-kaaaaaaay...

I'm just going to imagine that because you guys never had a team before, you don't understand 'banter'.

We really are lucky...though to be fair, ive never seen this from any other club, very odd.

Betcha Ricki won't change the run on team. Maybe Greenie in the reserves for Diago.

Dadi was fantastic game one. But he is 36 and will have to be managed properly. We can't expect him to put in 90 each week. We need Greenie to get some match fitness for the run in to the finals so he will probably get some time second half.

It would be great to see Greenie and Dadi side by side up front but unless we change a formation that is working real well it won't happen.

If we are up by a couple second half and in control then expect the bench to empty. Siggy needs a run and Caceras deserves at least a half an hour. As has been frequently pointed out we are at a distinct disadvantge in not having a reserve team. We have to keep a core of players match fit. We would be vulnerable if we kept the same team and then right at seasons end had to bring in guys who had not played for a while.

Are they trying to look tough? If they are, then it's a massive fail. It just makes people lol.

Can't, some of us work weekends with no guarantees to how many games we can go to

Priorities mate! You shouldn't work for any employer who'd stand between you and the Phoenix in the first place

Actually for this reason, I think Welly Rugby has the right idea - this year WRFU members can e-mail a match ticket to a mate for any home match they can't attend. Would love to see the Nix adopt something similar for next season for cases like this.

Even the guy being reasonable says (the end of the very last post)

Whether you still want to come to the pub or not is up to you - we've advised you that we'd prefer it if you didn't display your colours so its your call

What a bloody weird requirement, who are they to set rules?  and what exactly are they going to do if you do wear colours...glass you by the sounds of it,or at least threaten it? It sounds like bloods vs crips or something.

They really have no clue.

Not being able to wear your colours.... It's like being back in Rotorua, ahhh the memories!

Anyone know the long term forecast for Friday?

I remember whenever brisbane come, they come into our pub in 'their colours' chanting and carrying on,we just chant back. All in good fun. Same goes for some perth guys posting a pretty much identical post on here before they travel over to wellington for a game, again its taken in the good humour as intended.

By the sounds of it,its the same around the rest of the league, which just makes NQF more of a laughing stock to the rest of the league when everyone reads it. Do suddenly feel prouder to be YF,and lucky too.

Ive heard the weather is rubbish this week, but hoping thats wrong and our good streak of weather at home matches continues.

Good news about the yellow card count from here on....according to Fred Woodcock (who is never wrong)....the card limit for suspension gets extended after 21 rounds from 5 to 8....so Durante and Brown (who are on 4 yellows) now have some breathing space.  Vince Lia though still has to be careful as he already has 7.

I'd rather not drop Manny after his latest performance. Maybe Lia or Bertos though

would it weaken the team to have Greenacre back?
wouldn't a Greenacre/Dadi combo be a good 'un or at least something interesting with two genuine strikers up front?

and weren't Brisbane mising Moore Miller and errr...Reddy when we played them so hard to count as red hot form, especially with the Reddy saves for us?

We want to play our best possible team. Could be right and this might mean Greenie is on the bench. I'd be happy with that, especially if he isn't match fit.

Hmm theory being Lia has been much better at DM,while manny is only there so we can have more going forward with Lia and brown getting into good positions up front of late. Having greenacre back will mean we have this anyway.

true but drop someone like lia. manny has been playing well lately and bertos can produce even if he is off his game at the moment

Good TV coverage tonight from both TV1 and TV3. Showed Greenie runniing around with the mother of all bandages on his knee. Lads looked pumped and in high spirits. Dadi was interviewed and forgot Ricki's name....made up with a "sorry boss". very funny!

i think the nix are doing right, stay with same formation and team this weak, it a must win game. maybe try having greenacre and dadi together in an away game. where it less important. (not saying all games arnt important but wining our remaining home games is most important i think)

I kind of disagree, really. I know that is what Ricki wants to happen but I don't think it works out like that. Manny drops back as another CB a lot of the time and Lia + Brown didn't ever get noticably more forward than they have done in the past.

Still think that playing 3 DM's (basically) is a bit of a waste when we have such great attacking players on the bench. Can't argue with 2 wins though..

Very nervous about Friday night's game - not because I don't think we can win but rather because I think we should win. No disrespect to the Fury who are a good team with a good culture who battle hard and give nothing away and, of course, they have Robbie.

I think the nerves are a reflection that we are getting in to unchartered territory - favourites to win games and make the play-offs.

I think the hardest battle the team will have over the next few weeks will be in their heads - staying grounded, and maintaining the confidence, focus and momentum as we get closer and closer to play-off football. That's where the experience of the older wise heads (Ifill, Greeny & Dadi) will be invaluable.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Extra coverage = not rugby season or league season.  Must remember this at the start of the season next year

Cheers for links SC03
