I'm currentley in the UK and my a league viewing has been restricted to highlights but I do recall an awesome goal scored by Sydney  in week 1 or 2 by a young, particularly quick and strong black fella who's name alludes me.... was this a one of or is he going to be a big threat this weekend?

yeah that sounds familiar.
Brosque does like his fouls. Would like Sigmund to give him a hard time over the weekend.

maybe if on one of the first fouls we just simulate slightly, (even though im not a fan of it) and then hes sitting on a yellow early and will have to think twice before he does it again

would be very risky, but I don't see why we don't stand to back to him and hold the ball up, usually an obvious foul. We shouldn't focus on diving ourselves. Not worth it

I do think that the competition for midfield places is hotting up. The defence and attack seem settled, but with Brown back and Lia and Daniel showing some nice touches with limited time there is a lot of competition for that midfield 3. I could easily see Brown in for Ferrante or Brown in for Diego and Ferrante pushed forward (away game against Sydney could see this happen) or Lia in for Ferrante or Daniel in for Diego.
No to Brown.

Why will folk forgive Manny one bad game but not Tim Brown? He and McKain in the midfield turned our fortunes around last season, along with Siggie at the back...

I don't know if he has done enough to start. Certainly Lia must be chomping at the bit...But I think he has to be in the mix. We didn't drop the back 4 after the first game, and they have performed much better.

Brown has been sh*thouse the whole year - absolutely terrible at Confed Cup. His performances last season weren't that great either, but because he popped in with a few goals we tend to overlook it a bit. But now we have more goal-scoring options, Brown doesn't really fit into the line-up easily.el grapadura2009-08-26 09:36:52

It's an international window weekend with WC qualifiers in Europe, so if Manny gets selected for Malta we'll lose him for the game.

So what are the TAB odds for a Phoenix win?

The magical 2-1 for Phoenix might have to be put on again this weekend...

I just wonder why the Nix would waste an airline ticket taking Brown across if we have the same unbeaten team that performed well for most of the game last week and won the week before. To suddenly spring for an airfare says to me Ferrante or Lia or Daniel miss out and that just doesn't seem right in any of the 100 ways I've looked at it, despite it being our national captain.

I've looked at all the thread and can't fathom changes. Same team.
Still want Lia for Muscat and get some mongrel, but won't happen. Can someone upset Lockhead and give him some Siggy mongrel in defence as well?

I'd like to see Hearfield get a run. Thought he looked good pre-season and in game one. Seems to have been forgotten a bit lately though. Admittedly where to fit him in is the problem. Maybe...

TAB odds for the A-League normally go up on friday morning, $5 for a Nix win, & $13 for a 2-1 win on Centerbet, so would think around that

I'll be very surprised if we don't start with the 5 man midfield we had last week (formationwise) and then if it's not working - and it won't  - we'll change to 4-4-2.

Need to hold on for that first ten minutes though.

So is Brown confirmed to be flying over? I think we should use the 442 from last week from the getgo. and the only other formation I would look at could be the 4213 against Perth.

And I really do feel for Hearfield too. I think he deserves more gametime than Daniel.

Brosque is another player that we need to treat the right way.

He's going to:

A, Fall to the ground everytime he is within 3 feet of a Phoenix player
B, Foul the Phoenix midfield to delay breaks.

We need to make sure that if he's going to ground he ends up lumped for his trouble.  If we're going to get a foul against us let's at least earn it, and by the same token as he fouls us make sure he ends up with some damage from the collision.

A-League refs let him get away with it so let's make sure he regrets it.

Oh, and the style of play ?  No different to under Kosmina, that game at the weekend was awful.  That 2nd half we played on Sunday was infinitely better than anything Sydney have played so far this season.

The big question is, can we repeat it.

I've been to four of Sydney's pre-season games and the game against the Marinators and while they've hardly been tearing up the pitch they still have too many class players for us to assume we'll win easily . Danning is class if young, Lochead needs to be very careful or he'll end up crying in his beer. Their new Korean left back gets forward well and has a good cross on him. Despite stats to the contrary Aloisi does, and will score goals if he gets service. Corica is still to me their most influential player.

One thing I have noticed in their games is that they can be bullied easily. There were periods in the Furry match and also against CCM when they constantly lost the ball and generally looked very uncertain just beacuse the opposition got stuck into every 50/50 ball and wouldn't let them settle. If we can do this from the start (Lia?) then I fancy Ifill and Greenacre to have a bit of fun.

My Prediction:2-1 to the 'nix and being thrown out of the Trinity Bar afterwards for singing about it!

Perfect for a team with quick over-lapping wingers like Byun and Cole and wide players like Danning.

We will win  12-11.

to be honest - i think Bertos plays better when he is on the right wing, not the left like some people are putting him on......

on a side note..... GIVE CROWTHER A GAME !!!!!!!!!!!

although Paston's confidence should be up after that class save.

12-11 sounds like the sort of score you'd expect from Paquador

The most obvious thing since the 65 minute Daniel substitution rule..........

'A lack of injuries and some early-season form could see Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert keep the same starting team for the third successive week, something not seen at the club since September 2007'

Can't believe Centrebet's odds on the Nix v Sydney.

1. SYDNEY FC
2. WELLINGTON PHOENIX
 Syd 1.67   Draw 3.50   WP 5.00

Whilst Sydney are unbeaten we have started the season solidly and have a good track record against Sydney.

And yes a lazy $ or 2 has been wagered on our boys.

Phoenix slightly shorter here @ $4.50, draw also in at $3.20, Sydney $1.77.

I kind of like a half/full double that starts with Sydney and finishes with us $40 or the draw $16.
