Too right. On this occasion our defense was minging but there's not much happening up the other end of the field either.

We actually looked good in the first half. Its a game of one direction in that the ball has gone the same way in both halves. In the first it was with us, now its against us.
like the first 30 last week huh? two supposedly "easy" wins :)
Not sure why you have been having a crack at me. I've been scathing of them over the last 2 months... Today (well at least the 1st 40) we actually looked reasonable
Whatever credibility you may have had before has been lost with that comment, reasonable? Hopeless

You what?  First half was pretty good, just lacking a bit of finish.  Second half, different story.
Perhaps we have been taught to accept mediocrity this season because I believe we were shite and I would be interested to know who you thought was not mediocre? wests were only slightly betterr the first half but upped their game the second. We stayed shite

Just send Herbert off to look after the AW's. That was diobolical. Time to go Ricky. Be a record low home crowd next time. He hasn't a clue how to play anything but direct football, and has never looked to sign players who fit any other plan. Just embarrassing.

I think Lochhead has had a decent game thus far. Got up and down the flank and played ball to feet rather than the default loopy cross.

But he's a back, not a wing, and has been out of position so many times - either far too slow to get back goalside, even when not overlapping, or hanging behind the defensive line and keeping his man, or others, onside.

He's been good for the club, but as the league gets better and with us trying to play more attacking football, his weaknesses are getting exposed.
Lia is not up to it in front of him.  Too slow and not much to offer.  Trouble is Smith is not much better and is taking up an import slot.  Sanchez is not perfect, but he is doing it hard with young and limited journeymen players around him, plus guys like Brockie who make themselves available for what, two touches in this game?
We've signed the Sig for two more seasons?

I fear the only way we're going to see a complete turn around for next season is to finish bottom of the table. If we scrape into 6th Welnix will use that as an excuse to retain everyone and say something pathetic like "we only need to improve on a couple of places up the table"

You are right, he has been good, but for me is is first man in and he does not have the skills or brains for anything else.Lia is also not good enough(a thug) and I think that Smith is a lot better than you give him credit for.
I was in Melbourne last week and I watched us match Victory for most of the first half and we played really good football as we did today (for most of the first half.)  I have to say that I cannot remember us being outclassed as we were in the second half. It was embarrassing.

The players just gave up.

I have no particular view on the reasons for the Nix' slump, but am interested in what people think: how much of it is the players (which is what I am reading above) and how much of it is Ricki's srisbane

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Like lost Nomads in the desert they were in the second half. May as well default rest of season if Herbert stays, because he's clearly lost the players.

Okay. I would like to apologise for the foul-mouthed tirade at the fellow standing behind me who was abusing Paston for the second (clearly Siggy's fault) goal. Pasty of course kept us in it with some monster saves, but it's not nice to call someone a fat bearded genital orifice. If he's reading, accept my apologies, please. But please not that I am not on drugs, thanks. I'm always like that, which is why I'm a goalkeeper.

Anyway. Hepatitis is sitting behind me on the bus to the airport, free wi-fi. I thought we looked great in the first half. But I had a sinking feeling when it went to the break because WSW were passing to feet; we were passing to about half-a-foot away from feet. I figured that would cost us when we didn't have the wind.

Huysgems was massive and deserved a goal. But our defence is full of holes. Another fan told me that we're trying to play a game that we're not good at yet... well, some people got what they wanted. They wanted Tim Brown gone, they wanted us trying to play Roar-style passing football. Here is your dream, and how does it feel?

Add to that a craptacular weather day in Wellington (seriously, this is midsummer?) and... for the first time I won't argue with the crowd. Not because I think he should go now, but because if he did, I honestly don't think it could get any worse.

See you all at Eden Park, I promise not to use the c-word this time.

Siggy was average, but still better than half the players on the pitch. Should have taken Hysa off for Totori and left Boyd on. Sack the midfield, very negative cannot pick out players and only play backwards. Forwards need to come get the ball to offer an outlet. Ricki maybe time to retire......

Owners need to replace Herbert now, and just stay the flip out of it. They inherited a one trick pony coach, which ironically is probably the way the AW's will need to play away to North/Central American WC playoff to have any chance of a result, but they have got the wrong guy to live in the A League.

Agree they gave up.  Similar in Melbourne when we gave up two dumb goals (siggy) after a bright start.  Not saying we are wonderful up front - lacking some quality, combination, patience (experience) and finish, but both these games we started well before falling apart after giving up goals.
Yes, probably put it harshly re Smith - I'd start him ahead of Lia every single game.  But I still recognise he's an import and with the League at the level it is now and without marque players we need a lot from our imports.  Sanchez is a bare pass by that requirement for me and Smith under the cut.
Would like to see Boxall in, Smith starting, Fenton persevered with in a more central role - given we have no Ifill and no Broich.  And then hope they can develop some sort of combination and confidence.

What game were you watching? Sigmund was terrible, boyd did nothing, huysegems was possibly our best player (debatable). Forwards shouldnt always need to come get the ball, midfield should exist to bridge the link.

WSW transition phase is really quite impressive.

Oh I agree that there are plenty of players that are not performing and need a boot in the ass. As a couple of others have mentioned, in a certain game style, Sigmund fits right in. Ask him to play football and he is a nightmare. This season he has developed this thing about breaking the line trying for the intercepts. Perhaps he reads the stats and goes 'Well I'm top of the stats in intercepts, I may as well keep doing it'. Its dropping us in the shit a lot and I guess it would be easier to hide if he had a turn and pace, but he has neither so it exposes everyone.

Bertos has been solid this year but today he got caught a few times. Paston made some good saves, Durante has usually performed to the standard expected and is probably immune from most criticism this year. I thought today was the best Lochhead has looked this year. Take that for what its worth

In the middle we have a thug in Lia and Sanchez, whom made far too many unforced errors today. Boyd, Totori and Brockie were invisible, I thought Fenton took wrong options frequently. Stein... I like him but I didn't see enough to give him a shout today even though he had a good opening 20 mins. Is that cause his work rate dropped off or starvation of the ball? The same could apply to others and I guess if you are not seeing much of the ball up front, you drop a bit deeper and go find it, roll your sleeves up and help out. We showed good work rate in the 1st 40 and really pressured the back 4 for the Heart. Then it disappeared. Other than 'position specific' positioning I kinda think that the likes of Fenton, Stein, Boyd have the skill to drop a little deeper, fill in a hole and if they get it, receive and pass (or pass and receive) Those skills are universal.

Most of these guys played ok in the first half but disappeared and it was not just one or two, it was everyone. I mentioned it earlier but Paston cops a fair bit of stick and he has been solid this year sans 3-4 saves.

Why do I call for the replacement of Sigmund? Because there is an AW sitting on the bench. Its not like its a Musa/Griffiths type player. We are talking about an international. He wont have the passion that Sigmund has but right now, thats not what is missing. Its the ability to hold the line, mark up and be mindful of what is going on around you. Then. make a good pass. If he is not dropped, he is only a yellow away from a 5 card rest I think.

One thing I did notice is a lot less hoofball but I guess thats either here nor there tomorrow because the scoreboard says 2-0 regardless.

Well that was a couple of hours I'll never get back.

We were poor all over the park today, midfield absent again, passing poor, movement off the ball non existent. defence at sixes and sevens (I can't believe some people thought we played well in the first half, from where I was sitting we were dismal)

Brockie was a passenger the whole game.

Just a shocking performance (although to be fair Paston did pull off some good saves) from the team. I truly can't think of one outfield player that deserved more than a 4.

And all this against a team who were almost as bad.

The players just didn't seem interested. Something got to happen and soon to get them up for it.

There is a rather glaring problem with this. Fenton does not pass to anyone and neither does Ifill. Broich brings others into the game because he passes the ball. Fenton did not do that one. Watch the tape. He ran with the ball every time. Considering this, how is putting him in a central role going to bring the guys in front of him into the game?
