I can't believe people are saying that our first half was good, the only thing it was was less pants than the second. We were poor the whole game, it was embarrassing to watch to be honest.

I'll still support them no matter what but boy do they make it difficult sometimes.

I fear the only way we're going to see a complete turn around for next season is to finish bottom of the table. If we scrape into 6th Welnix will use that as an excuse to retain everyone and say something pathetic like "we only need to improve on a couple of places up the table"

Don't worry, we are zero chance of qualifying, I would back Sydney over us!

He can shoot, other than that is a decidedly average footballer

That 2nd half was such a disgrace. It blows my mind how many of our players repeatedly either had the ball simply taken off them, failed to achieve the most basic level of ball control, or passed it straight to one of them. I mean for gods sake I know the A League is not up there with the better leagues in the world but that is TOTALLY unacceptable from a professional footballer.

Probably technically our best player on the ball. Decidedly average, no.

Its funny hearing people say the 1st half was rubbish but care not to explain the rationale for that opinion...

1st half was decent... Amount of chances we created + 60% Possession. Far from rubbish.

I think Outpost has got in in one.

A very unprofessional  performance.

First half was ok. But we really needed to come out and improve on it in the second half. Which we did not. Obviously.

If the the first half was rubbish what does that make the second half? The first half was acceptable.

Did we even have a shot on target in the second half?

Second half WSW seemed to put us under more pressure and we folded all over the park.

Its possible (given how bad it was) that the absolute atrocity that was our 2nd half performance scrubbed out from memory any positives from that match.  It really was just awful.  I can't think of a single positive to take from our 2nd half performance other than it reinforces just how much we NEED a midfield, and our owners can't keep pretending that our current stocks are at all adequate going forward.

I don't know if we had a shot, let alone a shot on target.  Pretty sure it was 6-0 2nd half shots at some point about half way through, and it only got worse.

Fenton had two longe range efforts that were woefully wide.

As the best chant of the day went

At least we're not the black caps,at least we're not the black caps.

That was bloody depressing, while the 1st half wasnt great it looked promising and better than some of the rubbish we have been dished up this season. However what ever happened in the changing rooms at half time it didnt bloody work. That was just terrible they looked disinterested and just didnt seem to want to put there bodies on the line.Sick of seing us just gift the ball away time after time. The Welnix guys should just shutup because until they are prepared to open up the purse strings no matter what people think things aint going to get much better.

And those of you who called for Lindsay to be given a shot go smack yourselves.

Well that was a bit of a shambles. Mercifully we didn't concede just before halftime this time, but my goodness we're getting good at falling to bits after the break. At one point I think second half possession was 83%-17% in favour of WSW. That's not a football match, that's just keep-away (or perhaps, in today's case, more of a give-away).

Anyway, hoping that represents us reaching the bottom of the abyss; I'm not used to having my optimism and cheery disposition so thoroughly tested.

Will be attending the Sydney match next week with slightly adjusted expectations, but in full voice nonetheless.

Would like to see Boxall in, Smith starting, Fenton persevered with in a more central role - given we have no Ifill and no Broich.  And then hope they can develop some sort of combination and confidence.
You do wonder tho' - fitness?
There is a rather glaring problem with this. Fenton does not pass to anyone and neither does Ifill. Broich brings others into the game because he passes the ball. Fenton did not do that one. Watch the tape. He ran with the ball every time. Considering this, how is putting him in a central role going to bring the guys in front of him into the game?

lols - I can't really argue with that, other than to say
1.  he's young and hopefully can learn
2.  apparantly he has and wishes to play central
3.  who the f$%k else do you plug the useless midfield with?
4.  we can cover the wide roles with other players, tho' they didn't exactly cover themselves in glory this week

Anyone else catch Totori doing a Toto?
On the wing. One touch, Two touch, Out.

That was a bit sad.I remember seeing my six year old nephew do that in a game once.

I cannot believe that in amongst all this angst not one of you has managed to put your finger on the actual problem here...

Once again we were forced to attack the Yellow Fever end in the first half.

It is just mega-bad juju. The worst.

Losing the toss at home is just killing us this year.

Apart from that I think everything else is fine.

Looks like your hope for better defense did not eventuate. The first goal was bad but the second was a true minties moment. The one thing that the Phoenix had in previous seasons was a tight defense but this has disappeared this season despite more or less the same personnel. Why this is the case is anyone's guess, maybe time has caught up with them or maybe an improvement in the speed and skill of the opposition.

Bit of both, also lack of midfield in front of them.

Oh dear..first half was good..at least some attempts at goal but still some poor corners and crosses/passes in.  Palyed with 10 men as Boyd didnt even figure..must have been on energy suspension.  And then the half time scones kciked in and everyone had lead in their boots, dough in the belly and were absolutely useless..hence I walked out after the second goal.  No fight, no flair.  WSW looked good on the ball, had pace and ran angles well.  we are just not in that league..or even this one.

Solutions..start again and have a clear out.  Get some ball players and strikers.  Other teams manage it.  I think our fixation on kiwis in the team is holding us back.

First half was ok, but poor final balls killed us on most occasions. How many chances at crossing does Lochhead need before he actually hits a Phoenix player? We really need to be a whole lot more ruthless in front of goal.

Second half is pointless even discussing. No effort, no chances, no idea. And a comedy second goal just to round things off.

They brought on Ono, we brought on Smith. Sums it up really.

Can Paston hold a bat? He seems solid with the gloves (provided there is no far reach diving involved)

He'd be good at cricket. Always leaves the wide ones.

Okay. I would like to apologise for the foul-mouthed tirade at the fellow standing behind me who was abusing Paston for the second (clearly Siggy's fault) goal. Pasty of course kept us in it with some monster saves, but it's not nice to call someone a fat bearded genital orifice. If he's reading, accept my apologies, please. But please not that I am not on drugs, thanks. I'm always like that, which is why I'm a goalkeeper.

Pastons main fault in my opinion. I was calling him off his line well before he moved. Ok, Siggy should have realised Paston wasnt coming and booted the thing into Row Z, but it was Pastons ball to claim

Yeah but you can't hear the communication between the two so it's had to tell who's to blame. Either way terrible error that ended the game for us well and truly. For me though, Paston should've gobbled that up.

Paston is always hesitant in coming off his line so I agree he was at fault. Sigmund, however, was far from blameless either though.

LOL..yeah I thought exactly the same thing at the game!  First half had promise but playing into the wind didnt work at all for us...like them to a large degree.  We didnt deliver the final bal; well enough first half and they always had the numbers on us.  Too often the ball was played behind those in the box or they anticipated the outcome better and were there.

ditch the attempt to play pretty football return to focus on not conceding and scoring a goal or two anyway we can it used to work for us - teams came here expecting to lose without Gareth's intrusion into the way we play Ricki had us at least winning

It was about 8 yards out, Paston should've been out taking control or yelling at Siggy to get rid of it. Sigmund made an utter hash of it too though, I agree.
